And not like cartoon robots?

These do not look like cartoon characters to me. Considering that they are still a work in progress, there is still some textures to finish.

They certainly don't look human. Nobody can look at that picture and honestly say they think that's a real human.
And like osan0 said, it's not just about looking human, it's about acting and moving like a human. Especially facial movements.
Seeing stuff like blemishes, zits, wrinkles is cute...
but this is a game. If you've been gaming since forever sure you might get tired of seeing perfect faces or bland white faces with no pockmarks or human fatigue, but for the rest of us normal people when we hope into a game we want some escapism and see some beauty.

Check this out then. A real SF operator was used in the mocap session. Said operator still works at the JFKSWFCS at Ft. Bragg even though he is now retired. Green Berets are good for something. ;)
This is the correct answer. For all of its other shortcomings, Heavy Rain really has an outstanding visual presentation.
I think that's pretty close in my opinion.
Scott Shelby from Heavy Rain, both voice actor and ingame character model.Treflis
i was reading in gameinformer awhile back...and la noire looks like it could come close to what ur talking about facially...but we still need to wait on tech to catch up for that kinda stuff for everything to look real
Well I know this isn't a game but the first time I saw the trailer for the Polar Express I actually thought it was a live action film, as well as Beowulf. But then again I think I was 12 or so when the Polar Express came out. And i'm not so sure of Beowulf, but Angelina Jolie looked pretty accurate in the film.
i thought this is real. nice. Yeah, saw shots of fight night, it looks really great as well. I think its the sweat that covers the blemishes and facial imparfections letting the shaders work its wonders as opposed to relying on indirect lighting for the dry skin effect.[QUOTE="gbpackers94"]
Looks pretty realistic to me.

It will be a long time coming for facial expressions to get right.
I don't want them to look too real.
For some reason I just don't want the Graphical side of games to evolve further.
I dont know why ^^.
I was recently at a camp that teaches teens how to design, programm, and model games and game characters, this subject came up one day and one of the councilers said that we have the technologiy to make life like faces but when we look at them they look dead. This was from a realiable source too, this guy was taking a programming class at RIT.
