Do you think Splinter Cell: Conviction is a great way for new players to get into the series or it's genre in general? A friend of mine played a demo and he though he might like it. If there is another game out that would be better for people new to the series or genre list them. But basically would this game be a good start?

Look at your other thread, the one that is closed. The moderator already replied to you and said that there's a thread like this already.

Except the thread has nothing to do with the question and he locked it by misunderstanding or not reading the post under the thread topic. What i am asking and what the thread he linked to are two different things.

Oh, right. You're new here. You haven't seen how all these threads end up.

The question you're asking here? That's what every thread on Conviction devloves into. Every. Single. Time. Hell, the thread doesn't even have to be about Splinter Cell for it to happen! So long as Splinter Cell or Conviction or stealth games in general are mentioned, someone is gonna de-rail the topic. The other thread's already got a bit of that, albeit not as much as previous incidents.

Here, take a look at one of the threads. That's basically what every thread turns into to some degree.

I'll keep this open for now, see how this goes, but I swear -- if it turns into yet another god damn debate thread like the one of the many others, I'm done. No more Splinter Cell threads.

Yeah, it's really fun. Not the stealth focuses game the previous entries were, but still a very enjoyable experience. Have had tens of hours of fun playing couch co-op with friends.

Ok, I see what you are saying. that first page did it already. But this is more of a direct question, so no comparisons will be made. So this thread is safe.

The words "Splinter Cell Conviction" have been said. You can have a topic about candy corn covered hot dogs and have it transformed into a debate about Splinter Cell Conviction.

Though Metamania and Brucecampbell seemed to let it slide the last few times so this might be different.

This thread is awesome!

It probably is a good place to start. The game is far easier than previous entries in the series and has more of an emphasis on action, the stealth mechanic and options have been limited and streamlined as well. The stealth in Conviction works simple enough. Even the worst of players should find it a cake walk.

However if you begin with Conviction than going back to play the older titles will become increasingly tough. Metamania will probably take 20 or so years to finish Double Agent since it's far more complicated and far more difficult.

Conviction is a solid introduction but is almost too easy and stripped down. I personally would start with previous entries because they offer a more diverse and complex expierence, esp Chaos Theory. But if you want something that is a bit more "casual" if you will, than Conviction might be the way to go.

Really it just depends on your preference. Either way, Conviction is not a bad game by any means. You will probably enjoy it.

I'd like to mention that the story of Conviction is a direct continuation of Double Agent. So you might want to play that one first.

Yeah, it's pretty tiring. Guys like you and me will defend it to no end and others guys will hate us for liking the new entry and wishing that we were a part of their beliefs.

Not going to happen. Very tiring and very old. I'd rather discuss the next Splinter Cell game instead of what's been discussed previously.

I think it really goes to show how bad & big of a departure Conviction really was to have so much negative attention & heat brought onto to the game. It really is one of the game industries most dissapointing sequels, betrayal of its fanbase & betrayal of its own identity.

A great way to get into the series would be to play the Splinter Cell HD collection. Playing Conviction does not make you a fan of Splinter Cell. It makes you a fan of Conviction. Two different things right there.

If he or you like the new Ghost Recon Future Soldier you may like Conviction since they are pretty similar. For the most part though Conviction is a generic action game/shooter with no complexity, strategy or gameplay so if you like that game then maybe you shouldnt be playing Splinter Cell in the 1st place.

None of the fans want anymore casuals coming over to Conviction because it will just give the publsiher more incentive to further kill Splinter Cell. With that said im still very hopeful that the new Splinter Cell will make up for what Conviction did.

Just think of me joining Final Fantasy today. Now i go around & start praising & defending Final Fantasy 13 & calling myself i fan even though i showed up a decade late to the worst entry in the series. I say this because i know you're not happy with FF. Its just the same thing.

We all have our series we love. If Final Fantasy 13 wasnt enough to put the final nail in the coffin for you then the next Final Fantasy that turns into a cover to cover shooter will.

Lol Bruce nice sly way of trying to start a debate.. In response to the ACTUAL question I think conviction isnt a good place to start in terms of story. But go for it in terms of gameplay it's easy to get into though slightly different to the older games

It's a stealth game. Fanboys should stop over analysing it
