Are promoted by the military? All the young kids see "OMG COOL, I sees a Gunz & MY GODS those nazis are troubles,"

Well, this in turn is a great promotionaly tactical tool for the military.

Not making a political statement, just woundering what the motives are behind these games? Really, you know how crazy people got when COD was released?

I doubt it. Real life war is far more shocking than a video game. A Video Game only makes it seem cool.

No, I don't think that at all. A lot of the plots and activities in some of the "modern" military games are ridiculous and often times reflect poorly on the military.

No.
Although some people probably think playing a first person shooter is similar to firing and correctly operating a real firearm. You know, stupid people...

I would say no since everything that people think of being the "right" way to play deathmatches is the wrong way in real battles.

I have a friend in the military and when he watches me play war games he always comments on how inacurate they are.

Of course not. Call of Duty is like an arcade shooter, totally unrealistic. The games make war feel like a theme park. I'm sure real warfare is hell and not fun at all...and scary.

Isn't it a bit beside the point how much like real war it is? I too have wondered this same thing. I imagine it's more important in that it glorifies the whole concept and plants the notion in the player's subconscious of war being something they associate with fun/coolness/whatever.

The military is far more interested in promoting the image of teamwork than these arcade shooting galleries. If anything, the one man army saving the day all by his lonesome is counterproductive to the military's needs. If you really want to see a game that promotes the military you should take a look at Full Sectrum Warrior as it was actually created based loosely on a military program and training doctrine.

Probably not, although I'm sure some people think like that. And if they somehow make in the military I'm sure there going to be in shock soon after.

I don't think they're promoted by the military, but I do think they paint a picture of US military supremacy that's often considered favorable toward the demographics of people likely to join, war movies are sometimes said to do the same thing. The military though has invested money into games like American Army, which it hasn't denied is for recruitment purposes.

I doubt it. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that wounds don't heal in seconds and that death doesn't mean reappearing completely healed fifty feet from where one was killed.

not sure about the rest sence MoH is my first "war game" but I like the histoical aspect of it. A chance to (on some level at least) touch real life hero's (and villians). The violence is justified. Other games however (I won't name drop) seam pointlessly violent.

no, I don't think the military funds these games for their own promotion, only American Army is used as a promotional tool and the Army has already stated that these games though do have an impact on people, and also effect young peoples' ambitions to join, but whether the Army is out there making these games I say no, this is purely driven by private interests for the purpose of entertainment

No COD is FAR from realistc.

Now ARMA on the other hand, and Americas Army. That's a different story.

From the titles youve mentiooed, No not at all, it is just the desired setting for familiarity. If talking Americas Army or maybe the Armed Assault franchises, then maybe.

They are not directly supported by the DoD, obviously, but they are without a doubt seen as a positive recruitment tool by them.

I've been in the Army for 16 years and have never heard a new soldier say they joined because that thought it be cool after they've been playing COD, MOH, etc. I play these games and think nothing of just playing a cool game. I've been on 3 tours and been in action, it doesn't change my thoughts about these types of games. For me it's more a release than anything else.

I doubt anyone is going to explicitly cite Call of Duty as their reason for enlisting. That doesn't mean it wasn't a definite factor.

You think they would be stupid enough to say that? They would be laughed at. On another note, I knew 2 guys who joined the military because they said Socom inspired them. Yes I know these guys personallybut not really good friends. I did laugh at them BTW.
