I've been thinking about some of the things I do inside of games that might be thought of as odd or unnecessary. I'm sure everyone does things like that. Y'know, everything from OCD's to preferences. What are some of yours?

I don't run in games unless it's appropriate. I force myself to walk around towns, inside of buildings, or around NPC's that I'm talking to.

I like to play games as if I'm actually inside of the game, roleplay I suppose. Through that, I also like to behave as though I'm really there. I, personally, think it's a bit odd to run calmly between people inside of a building or a town. Imagine being a shopkeeper, having a costumer open the door, run full speed at you, stop, and ask to see what you have to sell.

Indoors I usually have the character walk instead of just always crashing into stuff. But any time outdoors I run.

I can't leave a room without exploring every little corner of it first. In Arkham Asylum I ended up missing quite a few cutscenes because I'd never enter a new room through the front door without knowing where the shafts lead to first.

If you need to force yourself to do that?

It could be a sign of bigger things

It's one thing to be like "wow these are nice graphics and I like to see them as my character moves through the game"

To think "well it's rude to run because I'm adding on so many human traits to pretend things that aren't real" is a sign that you might want to take a break from games and surround yourself in real world situations rather then pretend ones.

Gaming is a great hobby but it's got to be balanced with a healthy lifestyle out of it, if you're having trouble and confusing the two maybe a step back is in order just so you can reevaluate things?

Whenever I can, I try to sneak behind enemies and when they spot me I become aggravated. I also have a tendency to walk away after I just did something spectacular, kind of just looking cool, and sometimes when I get bored I attack civilians to see if they react.

It's a habit I got after playing Splinter Cell, walking after I do something awesome is something I got from watching the force unleashed gameplay for the 360 or PS3, where somebody was walking by people and killing them as Darth Vader, and attacking civilians when I'm bored to see what they do is just something I got from games where they complain or attack you back when you do that, nothing's better than headshotting a civilian with an arrow in LoZ...

I do that too, in AC:Brotherhood, when I have just finished a perfect combo on numerous enemies, I walk away like a badass with all the bodies and the blood behind me.

Exactly. I do it just to look like "Hey, I kick butt, man. Mess with the best, die like the rest."

Glad I'm not the only one.

Sometimes in GTA I will follow a random pedestrian around until they disappear. They do some funny stuff. The city seems so alive when you take things a little slower.

That makes me think of what I did in goldeneye 007 N64, I followed Ourumov until he disappeared, almost all the way where you started the level, he went back to where one of those science rooms are, but he run forward instead of taking a left and going through the door and then through the other one and into the room, he then disappeared into then air, invincibility cheat = awesome.

In games like NCAA and NBA Live...I actually really like to just set up my offense over and over to get an open shot unlike most people who pick a player and shoot wherever. (wins me a lot of online games and against real friends too ;))

Fighting games like Tekken when I am about to win I always stop mid-combo so that the final punch is actually the final blow that counts. Then I just watch the other player collapse. Its kinda like my way of saying I'm done with you. Either that or finish someone with a rediculously simple punch or kick.

IN real life I do get excited when playing any game (Other than gran turismo because I have a wheel so I need to stay put lol) I usually start by getting up and jumping up and down when I play.

Of course I walk. Only some kind of mindless little punk in a hurry goes around running and wasting energy, getting sweaty and dirtying his own clothes for no reason. I also pick my nose often when playing. Which is OK with Civ, but sometimes cause me aggravations in rea-time games.

Erm, I wouldn't exactly call it an issue of conflicting realities. I know what's real, and I know what's not. It's just more fun for me to get immersed in the game instead of reducing it to a superficial experience. I don't -force- myself to do it, I do it because I enjoy it.

I have a habit of murdering all the local townsfolk and looting all the stores in RPGs. I can't stand walking in games, I usually always run. I'm playing Heavy Rain right now and in it you can never run and have to slowly meander everywhere; it annoys the hell out of me.:x

I sometimes obey the traffic laws in games like GTA and such, other than that I usually tend to over-analyze the guns I get in games (I always watch the reloading animation of a new gun like ten times, checking out every little detail that went into it) But my worst habit is bunny hopping in games, especially in games like NIER and Darksiders (were you travel long distances on foot), when I get bored I jump non-stop till I finally reach my destination. This proves troubling especially in STALKER and other games were jumping uses stamina.

Woah, I just did that in SW: TFU on the wii. Yeah, that's one of my habits when the character is just slow, or I have a long way to go, in zelda that's replaced by rolling.

I grudge hard. What I mean by that, is if any NPC, be they in a Bioware game or a pedestrian in GTA, does something to piss me off, I'll go to any great lengths to get some sweet revenge.

You know Dragon Age's Loghain?
Sure that was a touching father/daughter moment right before I splattered his blood all over the b****. Wished I could kill her too for that stunt she pulled.
No matter what game I play I always take time to find interesting ways of killing myself. Like in GTA I might drive really fast, hit a ramp, and then bail out of the car in mid air so that I smack into a poll or building. In games with really tall buildings I will always try to reach the top just so I can jump off and see how long it takes to hit the ground. I will literally spend an hour just finding stupid ways to die and I will laugh the whole time while doing it.

I always do that in GTA; I got that from playing the first Driver where you had to obey the traffic laws or you will get pulled over by the cops.

The only thing I don't like is some NPCs don't follow the laws and will start honking at you when you are stopped at a red light.

If there are any explosive barrels or canisters left over in a room after a firefight in say, Mass Effect 2 or Half-Life 2, I feel obliged to blow them all up before leaving the room. It seems wasteful not to. I also try to press every single button I come across and collect everything I can find, for example I mist completely loot all bodies in something like Bioshock or Fallout, or it just seems wrong, and I'll never leave an ammo box or crate untouched.

I try to loot every valuable thing if I can get away with it. Case in point: In Oblivion, I would put on the Grey Fox persona and steal everything in a random home while they were gone/sleeping/not looking at me. Combined with an overused invisibility spell and the grab button, it wasn't hard to grab everything with my grubby little hands. I've glitched my way into riches, and it is still tempting. And speaking of the walking everywhere, if pushing the stick all the way in one direction didn't cause me to run everywhere in most games (compared to GTA IV), I would walk more often.

I walk when I feel like it, run when I get tired of it, except in combat of course. Don't really have any weird habits I can think of, but in COD I've taken to 'teabagging' when throwing grenades. No idea why.

I do the exact same thing while playing any type of rpg. I always talk to everyone I can find and then talk to them again to see if the dialogue changes any. Also if I leave a town and then come back later after doing some stuff I will then talk to everyone again just in case certain actions I took else where had some kind of effect on their dialogue. I know it seems tedious, but with rpgs you need to talk to people other wise you might miss out on good info.

when it come to the game(s) im playing, I always like to take my time with them, to see if there is anything Iv missed, any funny stuff going around or just checking the game out to see how much time that they have laid done on it, Like GTA, if you walk around the game or drive around slowly LOL, I can rly see things happen, people doing diffrent stuff, one or two crimes are happening, and it rly makes the game come alive, and you feel that your part of the game, AC, rly good game play, and rly cool walking around in town and see the same thing with GTA, see what happens around the people and etc...

In RTS games, especially ones with walls. I set up a pretty looking base and station guards around the "entrances" to buildings and have patrols throughout the city despite not needing them and I have 2 guys, 1 standing on either side, of the gate ( X_______X = like that). and set up gatherers around facing eachother in little groups like people having conversations and have a few walk together in groups on patrol paths. I essentially create a little village. Oh, and I upgrade units until they look cool, rather than having max upgrades like in age of mythology, I would upgrade hoplites until they were wearing silver coloured armour, and maxed out everything else because I liked the look. I did that a lot in Warcraft 3 and Age of Mythology.

I do both of that because I think Rolling is faster in Zelda.

I always try to shoot people in the legs when I play shooters.

I never really had any strange habits until I played the Splinter Cell games, very unpredictable, trial and error focused games that can get very frustrating. Whenever I play a stealth game, I must:

1. Incapacitate every threat in the area, even after failure

For some reason I must do this in every stealth game... even if just sneaking past them would be much easier and faster. I also manage to do this all the time after failing a segment, which isn't difficult, but can get very tedious very quickly, also...

2. Always use non-lethal force to complete your objectives, and, if possible, never use ranged weapons

This is more of a self imposed challenge than anything, and I enjoy it in general as long as the game isn't too difficult. My obsession with this is a big reason why Splinter Cell was so goshdarn difficult at times.

3. Always reload after every firing session, even when not necesary

There's got to be SOMETHING to do while you wait for that guard to turn his back to your hiding place. I reload after shooting LOCKS for god's sake. There's just some disconcerting feeling about traveling any distince without a full clip, and I'm still working on ironing this out.

I do a lot of this, but I will use ranged and sniping weapons a lot, and I will often try to sneak by an enemy, unless I know his pattern and that it will expose my subsistence in the area.

I do this all the time. Hell, when I have time to burn on GTA or a need for speed, I will wait at intertsections for lights, and just cruise along with traffic... :P

To be honest i prefer to run in rpgs, that saves a lot of time. But in 3d action i always walk by some reason. Only run when i need to evade some nasty rocket or an acid from aliens!

I reload a lot. Yeah, machineguns aren't for me.Crimsader
I do that too often. Kill > reload > kill > reload > shoot pumpkin > reload > shoot one bullet > reload

I tend to walk more in RPGs in unfamiliar uncharted areas. This turns into a slow stride once the area is fully checked out. In FPS and TPS I tend to slow run and sprint more often.

It really does depend on the game. In most RPGs i tend to try and get into it as well and act as though i'd imagine myself acting if i were actually in the game. If i've gotten to the point of being impatient with the game, then i just run through it like a maniac.
