Anybody here actually play games based on what people have said on this board? I have, and I regret it horribly. Anybody else?

I use the board sometimes for recommendations but mostl just to see if others like the same things I do. I usally put a lot of thought into buying a game that I found recommended by looking up reviews and checking gameplay. The main thing you have to realize is that games were less advertised then and the intenet wasn't as widespread as it is today. There were no review sites of such and the only way of knowing if a game was good was reading magazines which were an extra cost burden to the 70-90$ per game we paid(unless you bought from garage sales like me). The thing is we all had different experiences because back then we had lower expectations and we enjoyed our games as much as we could instead of complaining about how cheap it was. The users proabably havn't realized how bad a game was, or maybe they are just enjoying it for its old appeal. I know that new gamers think that megaman games are stupid and cheap but if you have been playing them from when you were younger( x or original series) then you worship it as one of the best sidescrolling adventure series made......or maybe im just thinking too hard about this and the users here just have bad opinions most of the time :P . Lets hope not, cause hunting down old games isn't worth thr trouble sometimes.

Not really. Most people suggest the common and/or popular games that everybody already knows about anyway.

Of course you wouldn't, you've already played most of the games people talk about :P.

But even so I don't like half the games (or systems for that matter) that people here likes or recommends.

But even if you're interested in some games being mentioned here, I would first look more deep into them before buying.

I'm not the type of person who does their research, especially if the game has little to no review scores I can easily access.

Well I always do extensive research, specially because the games I want often aren't cheap. And of course because I know very well that people tend to overrate everything. Specially whwn it comes to rare and/or obscure games.

I should probably do that, but I don't. I know that people overrate games a lot (hey MGS fans, GameSpot was right when they didn't give the original an Editor's Choice), but I still play them anyway. Usually a lot of people like highly popular games because they have SOME redeeming qualities. Not always true, but most of the time...
