Does anyone else think that No One Lives Forever is better than Goldeneye 64?

I know I'll get accused for making a absurd comparison since Goldeneye is such a old game. But my thread is not discounting Goldeneye as a revolutionary and awesome game, but I'm comparing the games for its game design based around its spy themes.

I've been playing No One Lives Forever 2 and I have to say that the game is extremely enjoyable. It reminded how good spy games can be and in many ways, I think it's better designed and more fun than Goldeneye. Of course, I'm sure No One Lives Forever borrowed from Goldeneye (like all FPSs that came after it), but I think what makes No One Lives Forever a little better is the personality it has. The game is darn hilarious and downright funny. This is comedy in a game that actually cracked me up. Also, the spy gadgets are original and clever. I think it's these little touches that makes the No One Lives Forever series the best spy FPS ever made.

I'll always agree that Goldeneye is a revolutionary and influential game, even though some claim it was overrated. But I think as a single player campaign, No One Lives Forever perfected its game design with its spy-themed premise. This is just my opinion, so please don't flame me all you Goldeneye disciples out there! :P

Of course, multiplayer is a different argument. Let's discuss the single-player design.

NOLF2 is loaded with personality and humour. But I felt it's level designs to be a tad lacking oevrall. One of the things that made GE 007 so memorable was it's excellent level designs. It was rock solid and flows better then most games of it's kind. But doesn't make NOLF2 any less enjoyable. The game was fun, but the level design in parts of the game sometimes dragged the game down and ruined the flow of things. I would love to see another NOLF game.

NOLF and NOLF2 are one of my personal favourites. The humour, the action and the story are all so well made that it is almost impossible for anyone to dislike. IMO Monolith should make a new NOLF game before making a FEAR or Condemned sequel.

I used to own the first NOLF for PC a while ago. I remember buying it for $6 at Wal-Mart, and I played about a half hour of it, but then the game crashed. So, not wanting to deal with it any longer (because at the time, everytime I got a game, and it crashed, it would keep on crashing, so I just got frustrated), I just gave it to my friend. I regret doing that very much because after reading reviews, it seems like such a fun game.

Personally I couldn't stand NOLF but it seemed like a pretty good game when I played it, just not to my tastes.

NOLF was good, but Goldeneye is in a category by itself. It's still my favorite console shooter.

Goldeneye 64 has aged pretty horribly. It was once my favorite N64 game, but now I can barely even play it. However, NOLF, probably due to its PC controls is still a fantastic game. So, I think I have to give the nod to NOLF, though in its time, Goldeneye was king.

Both Goldeneye and NOLF were brilliant and and enormously fun to play back when they first came out, but NOLF generally relied more on humor while Goldeneye fell back on rock solid gameplay, which included excellent multiplayer. I think Goldeneye is more playable than NOLF today, as gameplay will carry a game further than humor (though NOLF's gameplay was good and solid). In the last few years, I've gone back to replay both games. I couldn't get all the way though NOLF as it just didn't quit hold my attention enough, but I did complete Goldeneye entirely (all on 00 Agent, all cheats unlocked), and I had a blast doing every minute of it.

You're saying Goldneye didn't have lacking level design?

And Goldeneye aged brilliantly. Still fun to play today.
