Does anyone here also likes really short highly polished single player games?

like something that won't consume ur life, something you definitely finish in one sitting or no more than a weekend as well as doing other stuff like work .. etc

cause I really really hate games when you can see clearly that they're just stretching things to meet a certain number of gaming hours.

I don't mind 4 hours of something completely fresh, it'll more likely to leave an impact, and for longevity you can always throw in a multiplayer mode (a good one that is )

A good example of short awesome single player = Braid !! awesome awesome game ..

Because of this, am kinda scared of 40+ in Final Fantasy ... I don't want to be time-ripped-off

thoughts ??

im a fan of both. games like god of war and cod r fun but reel short and i feel a sense of accomplishment that i beat it. its all about instant gratification these days... But i can see how long games instill fear. You put all those hours into the game and then you get stuck. This happened to me all the time in final fantasy games but then i just grinded a lot and i eventually got through it. I am playin final fantasy Xiii and not sure but i think its going to be the shortest ff game.

and mgs4 i think was short. dunno if thats an example of a REALLY short game but its definitely highly polished single player =]

In the end i will pretty much play any game..except sports games..just whats the point..lol

Final Fantasy 13 is nowhere near the shortest final fantasy games. Final Fantasy 1 and 2 took only 10 hours to complete for the first play through. Final Fantasy 13 clocks in at 60 hours+ for a lot of people.

lol nowhere near, chapters get a lot longer later on. Chapters 11-13 are really long cause there a lot more open, and have side quests you can do.

I love short single player games. I finished Heavenly Sword in two sittings and it was completely awesome. I have heard that splinter cell is super short and that has a lot of people up in arms but honestly if it's short and good then I know I'll be playing it many many times. Especially with all of the challanges and unlockables that you get for the single player and co-op modes.

I like them every now and them. They are nice to break the pace and keep things moving. Highly polished and intense games that are very short can sometimes be more fun than games that are longer just for the sake of being longer.

I prefer games with at least 15-20 hours. It's quite easy for games to reach this length without being stretched. I thought RE4, RE5, GeoW2, R&C, and many other games were all great for the 15-20+ hours they gave.

Judging by my experiance with cod and stalker games... i would pick a linear super polished short game with great story than a broken storyless boredom averag nonlinear game.

I don't mind short games as long as the price is cheap or if it is an open world game. I don't want to pay $60 for a game that can be finished in 10 hours or less because I rarely replay games.

I'd much prefer a short story driven game to a loooonnnngggg repetitive open world game. I really don't like games that drag on. The only games I've spent many many hours in would be The Elder Scrolls.

I am a director of a company, so I dont really have the pleasure of replaying a game or if I had the time I wouldm't. Games like Bad Company, call of duty mw 2, they are typically short as of their price tag, but after you finish the game, you have the offer to play challenges and breath taking multiplayer games.

I prefer a great and immersive game thats as long as possible. When a game is close to perfectly done I don't want it to end. Games like Oblivion, ME2, Fallout 3, and the like. I will agree that some games are shallow and increasing the length of the game becomes a negative, better to keep those games short and sweet. But games with depth are better being long, IMO. Plus the more gameplay hours makes it a better bang for your buck.

Nope, I Don't Like Anything Short. XD I Like The Long Games But I Do Agree That It Get's Annoying When The Makers Of The Game Are Trying To Stretch Out Events To Make The Game Longer.

I forgot to add, if i sniff the first sign of grind I immediately feel tempted to shut off the game altogether. Grinding = cheap = cheat = rip off there is absolutely no excuse for grinding in any kind of game. Thats why, believe it or not, I don't think that "rpg" is a valid genre anymore, an rpg as it stand right now , is just a cheap adventure game with very little environment interactivity to speak of and in most, turn based action, which is again, another cheap way to full on reflex combat. I don't see why anyone would prefer turn based to full on action unless its a strategy game which is an over the top board game ...

How about arcade style games that last 30 minutes per playthrough but you can playthrough about 200 times before actually being done? As i'm currently playing one of those, and have been for about 40 hours worth of gameplay and am nowhere near done.

Because strategic gameplay isn't as valid as a gameplay as action...

like something that won't consume ur life, something you definitely finish in one sitting or no more than a weekend as well as doing other stuff like work .. etc

cause I really really hate games when you can see clearly that they're just stretching things to meet a certain number of gaming hours.

I don't want to be time-ripped-off

thoughts ??

Myself I just like to play a highly polished game. I don't really care if the experience lasts me eight hours or forty. I don't think there is a right length for a game.

I don't like short.

It is possible to have a lengthy, highly polished single player game.

Example: Batman Arkham Asylum.

I just hate the combination of short story and linear.

If the game (story) is short, there should be several other things to do.

IMO, no matter how fun/awesome/great/cool the game is, $60 is not worth it if it only lasts 10 hours or less.

I'm fine with any amount of game hours over 6, has long has it is a good game.

Assassins creed (17 hrs) awesome game, didn;t feel dragged one bit. Infamous (11 hrs) didn't feel to short. Mirrors edge (7 hours) it was such an awesome experience i was fine with it. Brutal legends (6 hrs) was to short. Why if i just said anything over 6 its because I spent a whole 1 and a half re doing those RTS parts cause i suck. But its not just that its a very short game, its that the 2nd half of the game had 1 solo mission. Not what I was expecting. If it was how long it was but more solo missions I would probably be quite fine with it.

I have a high appreciation for a proper sense of interaction, and power. I feel that good turn based action games tend to convey that better than real time action.

I cringed at your rpg statement.

wii dominance: I thougt I was the only one

I also love linear games with one path to take. I do not want to travel between places to get to the action unless the open world gives you the feeling that you really are in a different world. Just as you do in Fallout 3. But Saint's Row, Bioshock, Crysis would be better if they were more linear imo.
