It seems to me that the amount of ads/endorsements being made by "pro-gamers" for gimmicky "gaming" products like network cards, sound cards, mice, keyboards, and even food has been getting more common as of late. People also act as if others fall for these endorsements, yet I don't think I've ever seen anyone ever say that they follow pro-gaming circuits closely, much less ever see the community on gamespot at least act like they care at all. So I was just wondering if anyone here actually does follow pro-gamers? Because it would seem to me that the only hype about them is being made by the companies who get them to endorse their stuff.

personally I just can't take any of these individuals serious..

O.K they might be laughing all the way to the bank due to the fact that some fool is offering them cash to play titles and endorse their goods..

But they just remind me of very young kids taking gaming far far too serious. especially when they say that they work out to keep themselfes fit for competition.

Its not a sport. These "pro-gamers" seriously cheese me off because they take it way too seriously. Its people like them that are the reason I purposely do not own a gaming headset for online.

The pro circuits have always been gimmicks. Companies pay big $$$ to have their games featured in a pro tournament.

But generally, that kind of stuff gets me really steamed. But whats even worse are everyday products marketed towards gamers. A particular encounter with "Razors for Gamers" comes to mind.

Evidence that the human race is no longer worthy of this planet.

That's a negative op. All they do is break games down until they find exploits in them and just spam away. Just look at every pro fighting game ring in existence...

A fighting game is not about fighting but exploiting frames.

A shooter is not about who has the best aim, but who knows the sidestep sniping trick.

A racing game isn't about who drives better but who went to that forum and learned all about real-life tuning (impossible in-game) and who can afford the most expensive wheel and setup. (A wheel and rig WILL get you better times than a controller ever could. Only pros know this...)

Pro gaming kills gaming imo and I've never supported it and I never will. I guess if you are a pro player then you don't care because you're getting paid to play video games so...

There was a time when kids would crowd around an Arcade Box, eager to see the challenger trying to knock the heavyweight topscorer off his perch. That was... Very basic pro-gaming. It's just evolved over time into something more marketable, into an event. It's good that people are so involved in the challenge of a game, that they study the ins-and-outs of it to improve their results (much like in real sports), but I think it's ridiculous that they're getting paid for it. I know it kind of counteracts what I've just said, comparing it to real sports etc, but... It's just wrong to get paid for being pro at a game. It's kinda weird. Too niche. Maybe in a few years, or decades, it'll be a bit more mainstream. Not only that- It's boring to watch.

While I wouldn't say that I follow pro-gaming I have seen a number of videos on some fighting game and starcraft tournaments and I certainly respect the skills that some of these players possess. I say good for them to be able to cash in on their talents, I certainly would if I could.

Check out 'ZUNE' on Xbox live.. There are a handfull of short docs from 'M.L.G' Major League Gaming..

The one featuring some individual called 'Walshy' made me laugh when there all swigging beer standing around him at the end.. You can't miss him; he's the one that looks like the walking dead with teeth..

He's showing his buddies round his new home (all probably financed by gaming !)..

What he does'nt realise; is the fact that if his buddies were actually bright enough to pull off the perfect scam; they would of bled him dry; and buried him somewhere in the dessert where no poor fool could possible find him.

Can safely say I never saw anything that had to do with pro-gaming. I'm still trying to get over the fact that there actually is such a thing as "pro-gaming"...

but in all fairness, i stumbled upon a starcraft tourney on a recent trip to S. Korea. RTS seems to be the only genre that really lends itself to "pro" gaming. maybe it was the fact that i loved starcraft, or maybe it was the fact that all the competitors were mature and respectful. whatever it was, it caught my attention.

The only time I care about pro games are epic moments like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeM0rH_4ung This is when gaming truly feels like a sport. I felt more excitement watching this, than the superbowl Endorsements etc. are just rediculous though

Hell no. Praising nobodies for playing a video game. No... Same goes for actual athletes. Over paid babies. (especially Baseball)

I enjoy watching fighting game match vids from various tourneys. They're fun to watch if you understand what's happening.

Not really. Pro-gaming doesn't interest me all that much. I think the only gimmick I have is a Fatal1ty SoundBlaster X-fi, and the only reason I got it was because it was 50 bucks cheaper than the others on Newegg.

Pro-gamers don't mean anything to me.
