Does Gamespot have a platform priority?

When it comes to reviews does Gamespot give certain consoles priority? For instance, every highly-anticipated game on the 360 gets reviewed like clock work right before release. The ps3 almost always gets the same treatment. The Ds is another matter though, take Luminous Arc and Rune Factory for instance, those titles are pretty popular and they have been out a week already yet we still have no reviews for them by Gamespot.

I did not know where else to post this so if it does not belong here feel free to delete it.

I'm sure it is an issue of demand.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like our community here is more console centric, and that Gamespot probably has to make some decisions on what reviews take priority given their audience.

I pretty much agree but maybe they should hire some more reviewers, god knows people like Jeff that wrote that awefully written Bioshock review could go back to school and take a creative writting course or English Literature to help him out. It had all the poerty and romance of a caveman eating a raw kill.

GameSpot has said (although so long ago I have no idea by whom or when or where) that it's still a matter of priorities of what people want to read. Game reviews can fall under this, however it also depends on when they receive review copies, if at all.

But Luminous Arc and Rune Factory aren't nearly as high profile as titles as Bioshock is, for example. FUrthermore, GS might not have gotten advance copies of these games to review, and had to wait until after the game came out to even get their copy of the game to review.

I hope that's the reason. When Phantom Hourglass comes out we will see because you can't get more high profile.

It'll probably be at launch, slightly before, or at worst slightly afterwards. Depends on when they get their game.

Yes, they will work on a Bioshock review before a Luminous Arc review, but there are many other factors, such as whether or not they get sent the game, just to give you one. Plus Gamespot has always been last to reviews, so don't get to worked up over nothing.

Thanks. Don't worry, I'm not mad or anything, I was just wondering.

We on the PC didn't even get a Bioshock specific review that I know of. I assume it's the same as the 360 but I can't be sure.

There are a good many DS games out there that are low profile to begin with being from small publishers and what not. I get the sense that there are a good many low budget games for PC as well that never get the attention. I own many games that never have been reviewed byGamespot in any way, shape, or form. Battle for Wesnoth, Escape Velocity: Nova, and Guardian of Paradise are all examples of this. Two of these are not even listed on Gamespot as they are freeware and EV: Nova was originally a Mac game. So I think it's more of a case that Gamespot has to focus on the titles that have the most money and hype behind them as the majority of people expect reviews for those games and complain when they don't get them. I know I read at least 5 or 6 separate petitions/pleas to get Jeff Gerstmann and company to release it early. They released in the day before and I honestly think it was better because of the time that he took with it. I think the video review in particular was one of the best he has done in recent memory. I myself do not own a DS though I plan to get one after I replace my PC with something that is not ancient.

If you like old school type games then you wont regret getting a ds lite. I think the PC Bioshock review is now up by the way.

It seems there are a number of factors. I've no doubt that the highly anticipated titles get priority. That just makes sense to serve as much of their audience as quickly as possible. Other times they just aren't provided a copy of the game so they have to go out and buy it them self. Even with the big games that can happen and result in a delay.

I do hear what you're saying though. There are games that get a bit lost in the shuffle. Once in a while I hear people talking about DS games they're playing and enjoying and I think "Woah, I haven't even heard of this game..."
