Poll Doom (2016) vs. Overwatch (37 votes)
Does single player alone make a game worth it than just multiplayer only?

@cboy95 D00M IV does have multiplayer, it just so happens to be awfully generic and not very good (Snap Map is ok but not a solution).
My vote went towards D00M IV, and not because I prefer Single-Player. I can enjoy both on equal levels. However it's because of what Overwatch has become.
And the reason I mentioned that, I've read how bad Overwatch is to play in 2017. Apparently a majority of the community are awful. That only bark racial slurs and death threats. Nothing new to online gaming, and had my fair share of salty insults, but the majority? . . That must be annoying. Has it really gotten this bad_
And nothing against Overwatch, I've enjoyed what I played awhile back. But if teams can't get along in a team based game, and only make it a hassle for others to play. . It can't be very enjoyable. And Blizzard isn't to blame either, the blame is these people being scumbags.
So long rant short, D00M IV wins. Because it's still fun. . If you avoid the awful multiplayer modes. Overwatch doesn't have that luxury.
Doom the grandfather of FPS still kicks the hell out of most of the linear on rail shooter these days with cliche cutscenes.
Overwatch inspires from multiplayer arena shooters like Team Fortress 2 and Quake, Unreal Tournament for some reason.
So I'd go for Doom. Way better graphics, awesome single player, brings back the old skul labyrinth maps of yesteryears. And it has snap map too. I'm surprised that I enjoyed multiplayer too!
Overwatch was fun in the beginning, but Doom is hands down the best FPS I've played since the original F.E.A.R in 2004, so that.
Hard to choose but I cast my vote on Overwatch since it still growing and there is always new update every month unless Bethesda release a new Doom every two years.
While they're both FPS, they rely on different play styles. Doom leans heavily on the campaign, and by far the best FPS in a while. Overwatch is multiplayer and relies a lot on the hero concept. It just depends on what you want to do, play by yourself or with others.
They are so different dude, it's unfair to compare them or ask to choose one of the two.
That said, as I prefer single-player game so I voted for DOOM and its fantastic campaign.
Doom (2016) is just a fast paced single player arena shooter. You come into an area and are greeted by 1-2 dozen creatures and you're goal is to just run around and shoot while jumping and continuously moving. There is no scare factor in the game. You don't get that imminent sense of dread like you did in the original Doom or even Doom 3.
They did try to take the game back to it's roots, but they missed it somehow. The original Doom, you're moving and shooting, but it had a creepiness and even those startling jump moments when you're caught off guard - which is one of the great things about it. The new Doom doesn't have those moments.
They branched off a bit of the original Doom when they made Doom 3, it was a darker game and more closet scares were introduced with the whole you can't use a gun and a flashlight at the same time. While the game played evolved a bit from the original Doom games, Doom 3 at least provided some jump scares and had a sense of dread around it a bit. The new Doom lacks these things, if you ask me.
If you want a single person shooter where you're just running, jumping and shooting and not much of a story....then Doom (2016) is your game.
As for Overwatch, I never played it so I can't comment on it.
Somebody please explain why Doom got buried under Overwatch's shadow so quickly?
It didn't, just factored a different crowd.
D00M IV overall sold well. It just didn't sell on P.C. till it was heavily discounted, and now is close to PS4 sales (3. 5 mil). Though considering it was heavily discounted, think it goes without saying Bethesdas main revenue came from the three consoles.
Overall D00M IV has sold close to 8 million copies. Which is far from a flop. Not Overwatch numbers, but Overwatch doesn't compete with PUBG and Fortnite which would be closer comparisons being a online focused shooter, while D00Ms strength is a single-player gorefest.
I know this is a 10 month old thread, but anyways were here now.
Doom 2016 has the best campaign I enjoy, it feels more arcadey, it's still have Doom single player from previous games and it's more up-to-date. Overwatch is fun if you love MP gaming that is.
@RSM-HQ: It's to find any game in the world that has PUBG sales right now, since it's become one of the best-selling games in history.
Think my point then was misunderstood. Goes without stating PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds sales are insane, however it's closer in common with Overwatch than D00M is.
Most games that hit over a million or two mil units are usually considered a success, especially during the launch month when it's full-price (unless the budget for the game was crazy)_
D00M IV being close to 8 million shouldn't be considered a failure for a (primarily) Single-Player game, 3 million on its launch month. I've read nothing to factor it was an overly expensive project; like a Rockstar game. Add on that, marketing for D00M IV being almost non-existent compared to Bethesdas other game (Fallout 4); would mean even if D00M IV only sold 2.5 mil in its life sales. It would be considered a success.
Doom 4 is a good game, albeit overrated. Overwatch is a shockingly fun game, spoiled by its ranked competitive nature.
Somebody please explain why Doom got buried under Overwatch's shadow so quickly?
Because, generally speaking, multiplayer games are better at building and maintaining an audience than single player games. Multiplayer games are more of a social experience than single player games, so people are naturally going to want to play with their friends, which is going to have a ripple effect and bring more and more people in, and the nature of multiplayer games are going to keep people coming back for longer periods of time than most single player games like Doom.
Multiplayer games these days are garbage in my opinion single player is where it's at and Doom 2016 kicks ass.
Well Overwatch is useless to me.
I loved DOOM.
