ok I just read that people who preordered the game before 1/11/11 get there game automatically updated to the signature edition which includes up to 20$ of content including a playable characters, and a few missions and items.....

WHAT THE FLYING **** IS THIS BULL ****?!

i mean come on i was fine with you gypping people out of content in ME 2 for not buying the game. I was fine even though i bought the game and preordered it i got screwed out of the stuff other stores had as pre order dlc. I was fine renting dead space 2 and not paying for your piss poor piece of **** multiplayer. But now your telling me your cutting content from the game and screw over people who legitimately buy/ possibly preorder the game the day it comes out just because they didnt do it quick enough?!

are they afraid there game is gonna be so god ****ing awful that they put in this preventive measure just in case to make people rush out and pre pay for the game...

Well, i am not surprised developers/publishers are coming out with new ideas to make money off their products. Early preordering means that Bioware can kind of estimate how many units have sold so far, so they can actually include something in those deals (like a DLC) for free, making those customers return with the same preordering strategy for the company's next title. The rest of the gamers, who are purchasing a game at a later date have to pay for that DLC content. Well, i am just stating the obvious here, it is a business-oriented strategic move that really should not be surprising to anyone.Everything is made for money, and not for the benefit of the gamer.

Actually, I think what they're doing is giving extra incentive to those who pre-order early by giving them a little extra bonus for doing so. Just like game developers have been doing for years. And this has been all over the internet since it was announced several months ago. If you have actively been following the game and news about it, I'm a little surprised that you managed to miss it.

For the DLC, I do not think they would have made it into the game even if DLC did not exist.

THIS ISNT A BONUS THERE REMOVING THE CONTENT FROM THE FINISHED GAME... its prolly already on the disc if you end up buying the prince for 7 dollars im 100% certain it will be a couple mb if even that download at the most ALSO... i ****ing love how they make this **** cost 7 dollars instead of ****ing 5 dollars so im forced to buy 10 dollars worth of microsoft points once again gaming can go **** itself

This is not only in the gaming industry. If you put yourself into their shoes (Bioware's) wouldn't you want to make more money, more profit and more appealing stock price on the stock market? Yes, you would. Money talks.

In no way i am accepting a behavior like this, but it is the natural state of a capitalistic society. You cant change it, because you are one of the few...Lots of people will buy the game and the DLC nevertheless. I have grown to accept it and we just have to live with it.

I see nothing wrong in rewarding those customers who have so much trust in the quality of their work. Favoring loyal customers is a business strategy that is used for centuries and I think it is a good one.

For the argument "this is not a bonus, they cut it from the full game": Until release their is no 'full game' and they can cut and add as much as they like.

Do you also feel ripped off after you watched a movie in cinema and a month later the DVD/BD is released with unused scenes in the extras section? That's basicly the same situation, isn't it? You paid for the movie but you don't get the excluded content without paying again.

I just ignore it because it's mostly junk anyways. Those DLC missions are short and mostly unmemorable, and the extra characters are dumb and unnecessary. You can enjoy the game perfectly fine without all that extra filler.

I almost thought the same thing until I remembered how awful the DLC for Dragon Age was. Shale was ok, but other than that it was all garbage.

Although the DLC for the original Mass Effect was horrible but the stuff for ME2 was pretty great. Maybe they'll do the same here :P

i hate this s*** these companies should learn that a loyal customer is someone who buys a game at launch and not someone who pre-orders months in advance, i have never pre ordered a game in my life and ive done a fair bit of gaming, used to love bioware (which tbh is now ea) but this kind of gold digging has put me off them

We'll have to wait until release day to see for sure. If the bonus character ends up being like Zaeed from Mass Effect 2, it'll have obviously been a late-game add-on and more of a bonus. If they're more like Shale from the first Dragon Age, then it's a piece of original content that was cut for release in order to try and get people to buy new. Either way, the preorder requirement is pretty lame considering how much they've changed from the first game, and especially their Steam stunt where the bonus was withheld from them due to EA wanting to push their own digital store.

Problem : I feel as if i am being cheated out of content and then asked to pay AGAIN for stuff that should be included in the original price.

Solution : Wait a year and buy the "GOTY Ultimate Platinum Collectors Signature Edition" when it comes out with all the stuff included with some random bonus you cant get any other way.

The only thing DLC practices like this have accomplished for me is making everything but my most wanted titles a "year later" purchase instead of day one.

Just buy it a year down the line from a bargain bin then get the codes off ebay (or free if you are lucky) and the DLC when its on sale ;).

Im not buying DA2 anyway, it doesn't seem anything like the experience I got with the first one from what I have seen.

They mentioned it ages ago, giving you ample time to pre-order the game whilst the signature edition upgrade was still available.

Ive pre ordered the game on steam already..How ever unless the dlc are more than a hour of game-play ill not buy it..Dont like how cheasy they got..Relic is still selling expansion packs an doing things right..Warhammer has been a fun series so far an im looking forward to retribution..Its been what like 3 years since the original game was release..The fact that relic is still going strong with expansions tells you one thing...If done right an the content is full of goodness the game will sell..

Bioware shouls still do the expansions..Had fun with awakening..Didnt even buy added content after that..Moved on and just played what i had from time to time..Still enjoy the original dao till this day..Im looking forward to the second one..Just do what ive done..Dont buy the dlc an buy the expansions..Than they will say we have to go back to the full expansions again..Its just not selling as dlc like we thought..Its a buyer beware kind of thing..

I have rarely come across a DLC that appeals to me vs its price. I very, very rarely buy one and in most cases, if I do, it usually comes off of Steam when I buy one of their games on sale I have not bought yet. Then their DLCs are on sale at the same time, usually, so I go ahead and buy those while I am at it. Other than that, I generally ignore them. Just like how I did with Awakening. I know it wasn't a DLC, per se, but the original price tag on it sure as hell was not worth what it offered.

So you won't buy a game if it has DLC? Ever?

Some games like GTA 4 and Dragon Age 1 actually had some solid DLC that added to the game.

they'll most likely include people in the game from time to time that are like "would you like to go on this quest... oh, you don't have the DLC, come back when you get it"... anyhow, they're probably going to make lots and lots of DLC for Dragon Age 2, so get used to paying for it, or grow thick skin and ignore the NPCs taunting you to get the DLC

If DLC is what is required to keep PC gaming alive, then so be it. This DA2 preorder was marketed heavily earlier on. I only paid for two DLC in DAO....the Leilani and Morrigan DLC, and I enjoyed both. *shrug* They weren't exceptional, but I didn't feel ripped off.

this is nothing new. most big releases give you $10 or $20 if you preorder from amazon, walmart, or gamestop even. this is just the same deal in a different form :?

This argument is valid. When musicians are in the studio and record 20 tracks, and narrow that down to 12, the fans don't cry out that the band is cheating them of 8 more songs. The band isn't cheating the fans for selling those 8 B-sides later on, or in a collector's edition of the album. If EA gave Bioware 100 million to make DA2, but 20 million of that was set aside to develop DLC, then the DLC developed by Bioware should realistically be able to make back its investment. So while all 100 million goes toward developing the game, they take some parts that were more afterthoughts and sidequests, and divide them away from the core game. Bioware wouldn't spend 100 million on the core game and THEN spend their own coin making DLC. The DLC content must be developed at the same time in synchronization with the core product.

If you were so upset that you didn't want to purchase it from the EA store to get the extra DLC, you could've bought it from ANY other digital store and gotten it. Hell, Impulse had it with all the DLC for $10 cheaper. If you insist on closing off the PC platform by buying only from Steam, then don't complain when you don't get the best deals. If anything, this is probably EA's attempt to ensure that there is market competition.

I'll buy the GOTY version later on when it includes every bit of DLC for the same price (or less) than the original retail copy. I wouldn't exactly be sending the right message to EA if I showed my distaste for them excluding Steam by buying their game anyway.
