There were always a couple things that I just never understood about the DC. First, I want to know why they chose not to use DVD. It just seemed to limit the console in many ways, and I doubt it would've died out if they used it. Secondly, why the hell didn't they add a second analog stick? Every other console after the PS1 did, but they chose not too, just a weird decision to me. Same with leaving out rumble. Cool console, but sega, even during the genesis years, seemed to have really idiotic console features that sort of shot themselves in the foot.

The Dreamcast was in development since before Sony introduced the Dual Analog (precursor to the DualShock), and released long before this controller design had really proven itself. Most PS1 that supported it at all only used the left analog stick. In fact other than Ape Escape (which came out a year after the Dreamcast) the only thing I remember using the right analog stick for was gas/break in driving games, with the Dreamcast's analog triggers working even better for this.
sega probably felt that the Saturn 3D controller was good enough and could be used, though in my opnion the saturn's 3D controller was more comfortable, they are very similar.

the Saturn controller does have triggers exactly like the DC ones , though for some stupid reason the DC has 2 less buttons.
Saturn's 3d controller was a cool device. I liked the little nub for a left analog instead of a stick.
