The game is on two discs because of the many cgi cutscenes.

It has two disks, each disk containing the game's missions, I suppose the first missions are in the first disk, and the last ones in the second.

You start off on disc 1, then play through the story until you are about halfway through, then you switch to the other disc and continue there. However you can play the free driving in all cities on either disc I think.

The game has 2 discs, due to the CGI cutscenes as others have mentioned. However, ALL of the games cities and ALL of the missions are on both of the discs. Way back when I had my first copy of Driver 2 my first disc wouldn't work and I had to do this little trick where I swapped to the second disc halfway through the loading and then I could play the first missions, sans the CGI cutscenes of course.

My problem is that I only have Disc 1 ... is there a way to get around requiring the second disc?

No, at some point you'll be asked to insert disc 2 to proceed. It's not a very good game anyway, you ain't missing much. Try finding a copy of Driver 1 instead.

Sadly no, either way you need to have both discs to play the whole game. And I definitely have nostalgia clouding my view, but I LOVE Driver 2 and to hear someone say it isn't very good is blasphemy to me!

Driver 2 was a very solid game for its time. It doesnt hold up to well to the test of timenow, but the cop chase mini game is still extremely fun if you challenge a friend to see who can last longer :)

I loved playing through Driver 2. However if you can't get your hands on the second disc at least get a cheat or save file to freedrive through all the cities a bit. Damn I remember the last mission with the chopper in rio.. it was pretty hard >_

Well thank you all for your assistance -- I bought it out of nostalgia of driving around the city ... the whole story isn't too important. Thanks again!

Absolutely Survival mode is a blast! Out of the blue today, my brothers and I were challenging each other on that. Graphics are awful (even worse than I remembered) but still so much fun.

Driver 1 story mode was better but IMO Driver 2 free roam had 100x the replay value Driver 1 had.
