i can understand getting stuck once or twice in a game. but some times i get asked questions from my friends that make me wanna slap them in the face, i see threads on this site that make me wanna scream "DID YOU EVEN LOOK" or people getting dumber or lazier? im not gonna use any names but i was just in a thread where a guys stats were altered and he didnt know why, but if he would have just checked his stats it would say in plain english (or w/e his preferred language is) exactly why and what was doing it, and thats not the only example (its the only one im going to give tho lol). i dont mean to be a **** but come on.

i can understand if a game gives a poor explanation but some people dont even try, i pretty much had to walk my friend thru fallout 3 via xboxlive cause he got stuck right out of the vault, this kinda thing get on anyone elses nerves?

i mean im happy to help out if your stuck, but try, just try for gods sake.

I had a friend that didn't know how to play Sonic on Sega Genesis.

He was like "How do you jump?".

I looked at him and said, "Dude, there's 3 buttons and they all do the same thing".

Ah, good times

I know what you mean, but think about this for a minute - er, wait - that could be a little too long - I mean, a second... when was the last time you met someone who didn't have the attention span of a newt? People today don't want to think for themselves when they buy entertainment - they want to put that disc in and be amused... instantly, and effortlessly. Progress requires effort, and effort, in turn, requires thought... see where I'm going with this? It's not their fault really...

Everyone has a different learning curve and not everyone grows up on video games. I don't think its fair to call someone dumb because they asked for help or didn't grasp things right away.

It's as if I put you in a tank and told you to drive. You might feel overwhelmed and ask for help. If the person your asking has been driving tanks for 10+ years and it comes natrually to them they too may consider you dumb.

The less game developers ask of their players (and they ask a heck of a lot less than they did 20 years ago) the less they'll get back.

Remember the good ol' days when games wouldn't even give you a mission objective (Metroid)?

good point and all, but im not talking about people who have never played or rarely play videogames be4. the friend i referred to about fallout 3 and i had to walk him thru, hes the same age as me and he plays just as much as i do, hes not a dumb guy, but sumtimes i wanna say "are you retarded?"

i think thats it, i dont think most people feel the same sense of accomplishment i do when i figure a game out myself, or finish a challenge myself (mile high club for example)

Well for one they're not dumb. It's simply the persons personality that prevents/excels them in terms of progressing in a game (and also how fast they say, 'Help!').

I just use gamefaq.com for this kind of stuff. You can't be good at every game, and some require trial and error anyway. I still need to beat Strong Bad Episode 4....

and theres nothin wrong with that (i use that when im REALLY stuck or trying to collect all of something, after i beat the game usually), some games are really hard or atleast have really hard moments, but when i get asked a question and the anwser is "go left", theres no excuse for that.

I think part of it is that games are getting more and more complex, which is fine if you're currently a gamer, but it makes it more difficult for just anyone to pick up and play. This isn't to say games need to be dumbed-down. Instead information needs to be better relayed to the user. For example, look at the Zelda games (yes, I realize they're easy), but the recent games feature a companion whose primary purpose is to assist you. Not sure what you should be doing? Need a clue for how to proceed through the dungeon? Need a hint for recognizing the bosses weakness? This isn't the only way to do it, but there are a lot of games that would benefit from a system like this. There really is nothing more frustrating that being lost with no idea as to what to do next. With the stats, it could be as simple as a window at the top of it reads, "Your stats are being affected by:", and then lists out each status, equipment, etc. that is affecting those stats. Selecting the status will explain in detail how it's affecting the stats and for negative stats potentially explain how to rectify the situation. This is much cleaner than having to know the stats are context-sensitive and you must place the cursor over them to get information about them.

Yeah, but how many of these people are used to the more on-rails games? If you swap one of those games for a more open-ended game, there's bound to be some learning curve.

In addition, there are a lot of people who don't want to think about it. They simple want to be told to do X in Y way. These people are asking you questions so they can play the game in that way.

 That made me literally laugh out loud. Thanks. :P Nice spiffed up avatar too, by the way. :D

*On-Topic now* I usually try and do everything myself. If I don't get something I will keep trying/search around first. (Unless I really just can't figure it out) I hate being in the room with someone that is new to a game. It seems if I am in the room and I have already played they will ask me about everything. "how do I shoot? How do I go to the inventory screen?" I am like come on, there are not that many buttons on the Xbox controller, just try them out until you are used to it. :P

i wanna be like "I FOUND OUT ON MY OWN, WHY CANT YOU!" (but im a nice guy)

you know what i mean, it justs gets annoying.

Hey man Half Life 2 was pretty rediculous. Near the middle of the game I had no idea what was happening. The solution when you get stuck is always "look around for wooden rails and climb on them".

I tend to avoid games where exploration and collecting are mandatory, but I love Silent Hill and Banjo Kazooie, odd.

It's the reason the word Gamer excists. Some people are not gamers, and like someone mentioned on a post above me, they just want to be entertained but not put any effort into it. Gamers are like thrill seekers, we want to be taken on a journey and fight for our lives (from the saftey of our room).

Having said that, dumb gamers do excist. Left 4 Dead for example. You need medi-kits in the game, I always make sure to pick mine up at the start and I always make sure to pick one up when ever I find one. So why do some players just like totally ignor their excistence?!

"There's a Pipe-bomb here" I say to the guy who isn't carrying one.

"There's a Pipe-bomb over here!!" I say again to the guy who isn't carrying one.

"There's a ****** Pipe-bomb here!!" I say for the last time as i'm throwing it, primed to explode at the idiots face.

Sometimes it's like I need a connection to the persons computer, so I can play them through certain parts of the game. Like i'll say to one guy "please drop down this hole in the floor into the room down below, because otherwise I know what's going to happen, a hunter will pounce on you and we'll all be downstairs with no way to get back to you and we'll be a man down. So please, drop down now!"

No reply, so I guess they Italion and can't speak English or something, so I wait. They just stand there, I use the ingame commands to tell him to move on (they are translated by region) the guy just can't grasp the situation, he's quite content with staying up there. This is espeically irritating on VS mode when smart players of the infected look out for people who stay in areas where the rest of the team can't get to.

Why do some people just stand on the spot shooting when a tanks come charging at them?! How some players have the reactions and perception of a blind man playing games. You got a hunter pounced on top of you and they are more concerned with sniping a zombie from a mile away with a pistol! Of course that's not something that a blind man could pull off, which is what makes it so stupid!

I think it's just laziness. Obviously, if you can't figure out how to play Sonic The Hedgehog, you should be restricted from gaming (same goes for having enough common sense to escape the vault in Fallout 3, but then getting "stuck"). There was a MegaMan game on DS (forgot the name) that basically didn't make any sense at all because there were a million rules explained I was just too lazy to read. So, game started and right away I thought 1) I don't get it and 2) this is stupid. Don't hate the gamer, hate the game. (ok that should be reversed, but it sounds more fluid this way and I'm too stupid, no wait lazy, to reverse the order).

One of the best has to be when people say they can't play Metal Gear Solid because whenever they try to start a game it goes back to the main menu (because they are pressing X, not circle).

I happen to be a person who has grown up on video games. I would say I'm an extreme veteran gamer.

(30 years experience.... still haven't grown up by choice!!!)

I find it pretty easy to grab the controller of any console & fairly seemlessly adapt to any game. Here's the thing..... While I have played for most of my life, especially in the earlier years of my gaming youth, there wasn't a lot of people like me that could play well so I guess I've always been used to the less coordinated than average gamer. Gaming is a lot bigger now than it was back then so there's plenty of competition.

I can understand your frustrations because I have also been in similar situations, but I think we, as the gaming community, should whole heartedly support all gamers whether they're pro's or shmoe's; because the more people that are playing, the more support the console & game developers get, so the harder they'll work on breaking the limits of gaming developement!

Not everyone is good at everything my young friends. Have some patience with your clutsy gaming friends & do what you can to help when ever you can!

Without them, we might not be enjoying gaming as we know it today, & you probably wouldn't be as good as you all think you are! :D

Gamers are becoming both dumber and more lazy, want proof just look at the new Prince of persia game,it gone from being a good challenge to "Can I die even if I try.....NO"
