I can't believe how EA's CFO, Blake Jorgensen said this with a straight face!

"We're not giving up on the notion of MTX," Jorgensen said. "We're learning and listening to the community in terms of how best to roll that out in the future, and there's more to come as we learn more. But I would say we're certainly not changing our strategy."

I'm sure that the shareholders are happy with them sticking to their guns and not giving up as their stocks take a nosedive. Here is EA's latest game called "How low can it go!"

Well if they are certainly not changing their strategy, then maybe they could certainly change their CFO.

I'm full of great ideas.

Well, it's official: they don't care about games.

I firmly feel that any game company that cares about their product would not pull a shit move like this.

I mean, I get it, they need to make a profit and that's fine and all, but there is a happy middle ground where you can meet your customer's expectations, make a product, and earn a profit. This is not mutually beneficial, it's one-way in EA's favor.

Been watching their stocks closely, I am sure they did this (heavy emphasis on loot boxes) to recover from their dropping value. Ironically this might make it drop even lower. We will see.

EA is not Take Two, Battlefront is not GTA....there is no long-term earnings to be had by this nonsense. This is like in the late 200x's when every MMO was trying to be like WoW; c'mon folks, WoW is the exception, so is GTA V, you're not going to be money-earning juggernauts like them simply by copying their business model. Get that through your heads GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

It's not EA who have to change the strategy, it's the market that needs to say no to it. You can't blame a company for trying to maximize profit, blame the consumer who allows it.

@KungfuKitten: Dude you are so damn right! I mean, the balls Jorgensen had to say those things...either he is really brave or amazingly stupid.

I actually agree to that. We wanted gaming to be taken seriously, now it is. It's a big boy's industry and the industry is out to make money. They will always decide for whatever is more profitable. It's just how capitalism works. Either change the economic system or the collective consumer mentality.

Just to be clear, I disagree with EA and I think it's important to complain about it. But I also think it's important to highlight that it's consumer behavior that is ultimately driving these decisions. If we can make people aware of that, then meaningful, lasting changes will be that much easier to achieve.

Yes, it's absolutely imperative to protest bad business practices: case in point the "XBOX 180" affair, when massive backlash made Microsoft realize that blocking used games would significantly impact sales. Consumers can make a difference, if they can bring themselves to refuse to buy something they want, on principle.

That being said, I personally think that, as things stand, this is a losing battle: when I read threads like this one and articles like this this one, I can't help thinking that the new generation of young adults raised with freemium and pay-to-win mobile games sees those models as normal and reasonable, and as the previous generation moves on with life and inevitably gravitates away from hardcore gaming, there will be fewer and fewer people protesting them.

The only hope at this point is for governments to step in unexpected like the Eagles in Lord of the RIngs and override the market. Belgium was an encouraging signal.

"I know everyone hated the idea of micrrotransactions in our games so we're taking them away......

For now."

Seriously, why does anybody pay to play anything by EA anymore?

@todddow: It sucks because they have good developers under their belts ie Visceral games (they used to be good anyways and I think Dice knows how to do modern shooters right, it's just all the EA bullshit that's crammed in there that ruins them). Seriously, they were the pack leader on all the bad aspects of online consoles and it's changed gaming for the worse.

Same with Ubisoft. I was enjoying the hell out of Assassin's Creed 4, playing offline. I was going for a fully upgraded ship when I found out that I couldn't fully upgrade one of my items because I needed to connect the game to a goddamn Uplay account. It cast a shadow over what was a pretty great pirate simulator, and I've vowed to never buy another Ubisoft game because of it. Which also sucks, because they had some great stuff in previous generations like the Sands of Time trilogy.
