If you like RPG's you owe it to yourself to play this game. It's my favorite game of all time.

I played it and didn't like it. I am sure a hundred others will come in and sing its praises though.

All of the swirling lights and music during the battles gave me a headache. Another strange thing about the battles is there is an auto-attack button, but it can never be cancelled and the AI never heals. I found the battle system strage, confusing and sometimes boring. I also found myself confused where to go next. I didn't like it, but try it if you are a huge RPG gamer.

I wouldn't concider it amazing compared to some of the RPGs on the SNES, but it is, however, very fun, addicting, modern, and highly unique. I would also say it's trippy because of some of the ideas, and literally trippy because during battles the background .. well.. Put it this way it makes it look like Ness is on an acid trip and everything's halucinated except the enemy. It's very good though and similar to the classic GBC Pokemon games, but without Pokemon.. It's a mix of that and FF, except in the modern world as kids. For example you use baseball bats and yo-yos and other equippable items for weapons, but you are able to learn psychic powers for leveling up, attacking, and so on, which basically makes up the Magic portion of the game. You end up with a party later on. It's a fun game and I'd recommend it if you like RPGs.

Well, let's put it this way: it makes my top ten list of all-time games and I usually can't stand RPG's.

it's a total Dragon Warrior rip off, but I don't think anyone really praises it for its innovative battle system, it does however have a really creative storyline, characters and a ton of weird crap that will keep you playing.. despite the otherwise weak gameplay...

The game is great, it keeps you in a constant state of bliss. Good luck finding a copy at a reasonable price and enjoy.

It is definately not worth 70-100$ lol. Earthbound is a normal classic rpg game. What made it stand out from everything else is that it takes place in a modern theme. You use basbeball bats and frying pans as weapons. It was only good for a once through so I dont know how much it is worth owning. There are so many other snes games that have more to offer. Anyways the game definately does not suck and if you can get your hands on a copy it would totally be worth playing through, just dont kill yourself or go bankrupt trying.

Chrono Trigger/Earthbound.

Trigger is better, but Earthbound is great. I just bought my friends sealed copy of Earthbound off of him for 100$, I'll be holding onto it for a while.

If you plan on buying Earthbound (or CT for that matter), if you're patient, you can eventually find them for cheap. It took me about 2 weeks, but I was eventually able to get CT for $40 shipped and EB for $55 shipped. But I highly recommend buying them both, they are both prime examples of SNES RPG goodness. Enjoy the games if you get them :)

Earthbound is an awesome RPG. Know that it does show its age with its graphics and battle system, but it is definitely a fun ride. Anyone remember the scratch and sniff cards that came with the bundled strategy guide? LOL really helps you get into the game.

Earthbound is a great game, but it doesn't even compare to Chrono Trigger. They are very different games, but if you were only going to buy one off e-bay I would just get Chrono Trigger. It's actually one of the best games you will ever play. Earthbound gets boring in places and you find yourself walking around a lot doing mindless things. You should also check out FFII, FFIII, Breath of Fire 1&2, Secret of Evermore, Illusions of Gaia, and Secret of Mana. All of the games I just listed I would put infront of Earthbound. I really think that it's become one of those games that's "cool to like." I'm sure there are going to be several people that disagree, but that's just what I think. Don't waste your money. If you do waste it, just play the game once and then resell it because it has absolutly no replay value, whereas Chrono Trigger has, I think, 15 different endings.

ya i'd say right now its definitely between CT and earthbound for the first i want to get and beat...i've heard secret of mana and secret of evermore were great as well...and obviously any final fantasy game is usually good so i was thinking about checking those out

...haven't heard too much about the breath of fire series or illusion of gaia though

If you're thinking about the mana series, get Secret of Mana, but do not get Secret of Evermore. The alchemy system is terrible and the environments are dull and boring, stay away from that game.

Why does earthbound cost so much?gorillazilla28

1. it's an old game, and it's been out of circulation for a long time
2. it didn't sell very well during it's initial run and nintendo didn't make very many copies
3. recent hype because of the Smash Bros games
4. internet hype

If you have Mario RPG, go play it now. It is so much better than Earthbound. In fact, it is my favorite RPG of all time.

Earthbound is a very unique game. Very weird and funny. You owe it to yourself to play through it.

It is pretty hyped, but as long as you go into it with an open mind, you'll enjoy it. In my opinion, it's in the top 10% of RPGs.
