I need to write a report for a marketing class on a retail store that sells technology related products. I chose eb games and I just have a few questions for you guys. Have you ever had any "customer relation" problems at ebgames, if so please share and what do you guys think of their marketing strategy in store?

On a side note I was at eb games a few days ago to purchase a game on PC and for some reason all there PC games are hidden in a staff only room in the back... lol I found that weird.

Thanks.

I've had one problem with GS. They put the wrong disc in a box one time. I went back and they put the right one in. I love GS, probably spent at least $1,000 there over the years. Majority of my 277 Xbox game collection came from their used games.

Same thing happened to me once also, went back and told them, gave me the right disc, no problems. Can't think of anything else major, I like EBG/GS, where I purchase most of my games.

I've had a much better experience with EB/GS online than in-store. In store they always have to push magazine subscriptions (which I get. I've done my time in commission based sales. but still, sometimes when you want to get in and out real quick, no means no and they out to leave it at that), they seem to have cut down there disc warranty to a week for new purchases, thus forcing you to spend an extra 3 bucks for a 1-year disc warranty. I've definetly had games that I bought as "new" that were obviously re-shrink wrapped at the store for some reason. that and they only give you your pre-order bonus half the time, if that. online was totally different. I've gotten games the day they came out. the best was when I ordered a couple PSP games. they accidentally sent me 2 Xbox360 games. one quick phonecall, and I got to keep the games, and 2 days later. I had the PSP games I ordered. now THAT, is great service.

I have had many, actually. :P I once bought Gears of War in Gamestop. Upon getting back to my vehicle, I noticed a large circular scratch on the disc. I brought it back out and pointed it out, explaining it probably wouldn't work. The dude there assured me that they test the games and it would work. Guess what? It didn't. I'm about 25 miles from my nearest Gamestop so I wasn't returning it that day. Had to wait like three days, finally bought it new from WalMart and returned the Gamestop copy. Other smaller incidents were: I bought Pursuit Force Extreme Justice in the mall and they put in the wrong UMD, instead it was the original Pursuit Force. Because the original can be bought much cheaper than the $30 sequel, I of course exchanged it. It was simple and fast. I was buying a few GCN games for my brothers and Christmas gifts. For one of them, I searched their selection of the game for the best looking case and manual. After purchasing the game, I checked the contents back in the vehicle it was a different case and there was no manual, they had one in the back they replaced the one I picked out with! It was a simple exchange, so nothing major. The second one was more my fault. I saw the scratches on the game and decided to purchase it anyway. I tried it out at home before wrapping it up, after all it would suck if it didn't even work. I got it to work and even played the first level. 3/4 through the game now though and my bro can't go any further because the disc cannot be read. I blame this more on myself, but then both games in my purchase actually ended up being trouble. I had more incidents, but I do not remember the exact details right now and I don't want to provide any false information. :P Good luck with your report!

No. I think the majority of people that have issues with EB/GS are just complainers feling ripped off.

I've had some bad experiences from GS, but they're mostly on my part, such as loosing a receipt for a damaged game or not checking the disc until I got home. Beyond that, I don't really have any major complaints from my buying point of view. I always watch them place the discs in the case, I always go for the cases that are the original plus the manual and I always ask to see the condition of the disc.

On a side note I was at eb games a few days ago to purchase a game on PC and for some reason all there PC games are hidden in a staff only room in the back... lol I found that weird.

The reason for that may be quite simple. Console gaming has all but taken over in game stores, and most of the time it's simply a waste of shelf space. I work in Gamestation (UK) and we no longer take PC games on trade-in or cash for the same reason.
