Eidos have announced a new RPG for the Wii in the form of Monster Lab. The title allows you to create monsters and fight/trade them in an online mode.

In a graphical ****heavily influenced by the works of Tim Burton, Monster Lab is a dark cartoon RPG. The village of the monsters is full of personality, and the main aim of the game is creating the monsters themselves.

Monsters have both biological and mechanical parts. Mechanical parts can be created using the Wii Remote in various ways - such as a soldering iron, complete with the need to shake if it should become too hot. You will also have to deal with 3 main scientists in the game: Professor Fuseless, specialist mechanical aspects of monsters; Dr. Sandabar, specialist in biology, and Dr. Tchesombra, expert in chemistry. Players will need the help of all three to assemble their monster pieces.

There are around 150 parts in the game collect, which can all be combined in various ways. This means that there are 100 million possible monsters. There will be "recipes" that you can collect to help you in choosing the right parts, and many of the monsters will be... well, useless. Different combinations also have their own strengths and weaknesses.

The combat of the game is stated to be (in terms of complexity) between Pokémon and Final Fantasy. You don't attack the monsters themselves, but rather their limbs. As you "kill" limbs, they fall off of the monster, which (naturally) makes your opponent weaker. On top of this, Monster Lab features online modes. Monsters of the same weight category (and therefore of similar strength) can battle it out from any two parts of the world. You can also trade pieces, recipes or whole monsters with people from around the world.

Monster Lab is planned for release in June 2008 for the Nintendo Wii.

Looks like someone tried to cross BioShock with Chibi Robot. Either way looks good. Probably will be very easy, but nothing wrong with that as long as it's fun.

Now this is a very interesting game indeed. I am a fan of Tim Burton and Tim Burton-esque styles so I will be keeping tabs on this game.

Eh. Im not gonna dismiss it just yet but it dosent really grab me at this point. I like reading about online functionality though that sounds cool. If the combat is fun then I could see it being good... I dunno im square in the middle right now. June 08 is a long ways away but its possible this could turn out good.

This is what I like to see from Eidos, not that one other "bug-catching" game. Wasn't that by Eidos if I'm not mistaken?

Anyway, this Tim Burton-esque RPG is something that I commend. I think it's a good sign that games like these are coming for the Wii. I hope this is the start of more third-party developers putting out potential good games.

I like it...let's hope it plays just as good as it looks so far.\

And what's up with Wii and bloom?

Its not just the Wii, all developers are bloom lighting horny these days. They think it makes their games look awesome, when really I just want to punch them in the nose cause it annoys me sooo much.

Nice art design and the gameplay could be original....but it don't look Tim Burton. It looks pretty dated too, like 2003 technology.

I want a Burton '9' game. Is there already one? Can someone make that for me? Did you hear he is getting back with the 'Ed Wood' people for his next films? When will movies and video games be synonymous? Burton and Ed Wood People:
