I've been hearing more negative than positive feedback about this game. I wasn't expecting a Skyrim 2 but nothing impressed me from all gameplay footage I saw. How accurate is this review for those who had a chance to play it?

Its too early to tell. As for the actually quality of the game. Well Bethesda won lots of GOTY awards from really terrible games so even if the feed back was good, its still wouldn't change anything.

Also MMO's suck ! So.... Yeah...

I concur but I know there are a lot of MMO lovers out there. It would be interesting to get their take on this game. I couldn't imagine paying a monthly fee to play this.

AngryJoe is a kid who clearly haven't got a single freaking clue what Elder Scrolls Online is and wants to be.

And calling it a failure is premature.

Also this dude gets paid to be angry so did anyone think he would be positive.

He's had plenty of positive reviews. Skryim, GTAV, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, to name a few. The guy doesn't just trash everything he sees, he has his own standards and he's just as quick to say something good about a game as he is to say something bad.

I sure hope not as I'm really looking forward to it. I'm waiting for the Xbox One version to come and will check out the reviews then.

People that criticize negative opinions on the game using the ideology that "They don't know what this game is meant to be," is simply silly.

I like Elder Scrolls Online, and then I really, really do not. Sometimes it works well, most of the time it doesn't. Some quests can be a lot of fun to do. Exploring feels rewarding, at times, and leveling up your character to be a badass is a lot of fun too. The soundtrack in this game is some of the absolute best around, and voice acted NPCs really help make things more immersive. Combat can be pretty fun, and engaging when you get into groups of players. However, the game struggles with having a true identity. At times it feels like it was meant to be a single player game. Quests are phased for friends, and grouping to do quests is a pain in the rear end. It definitely feels like a very, very average game. I won't be subbing after this, at least not right away. I might wait a month, maybe two more and hope things pan out.

Its always been my theory that Levelling up your character is not actually fun. Its definately rewarding but is it ever executed in a fun way ? I doubt it.

Most of Joe's reviews I've seen critique a lot of flaws other reviewers miss for whatever reason. He gives praise where praise is due. He did mention a few good points about ESO and didn't seem like he was trolling the game. When you're talking about shelling out a monthly fee on top of retail price, all reviewers should be going through this game with a fine tooth comb.

I would go as far as to say that the majority of his reviews are at least semi-positive to positive. He only ever puts on the "Angry" persona when he is ranting about a particularly bad game. Like, games that he scores a 4 or below. Honestly, probably more like a 3 or below.

I think he is one of the better reviewers out there. Yeah, his methods are questionable (maybe even unethical), but he is always honest. He always rates games fairly, balancing the pros and cons and whatnot. He actually knows how to review a game, unlike most "professional" reviewers these days.

I agree. I hate when he dresses up like a girl and some of his long winded, silly ass intros but most of his reviews I've seen are pretty fair with pros and cons, even if you disagree with his opinion or final score. When you compare Joe's review of Titanfall to Adam Sessler's Titanfall review for example, it's like 'Adam, how in the hell did you miss all these flaws? Or were you too blinded by the hype to properly assess the pros and cons?'

i won't waste time on this game... but really bad reviews doesn't mean failure if tons of people still buy and stick with the game.

I remember way back in 1997, Ultima Online got terrible reviews when it came out, and the game is still running... even with its crappy buggy launch it survived and grew for quite a few years after. So any game with people who stick with it can survive... problem though, in this day in age we have countless MMO's and people have no reason to settle for a game thats boring, they can just try another one... back in 1997 we had only a couple to choose from.

My first thought when I see this game is failure though.

From the gameplay I've seen, I'm not looking forward to it anymore. You feel very disconnected from the world, no immersion like a real ES game. You do these quests and they build up nicely, but then you meet the final boss and it's dead, surrounded by a group of randoms waiting for it to respawn. That's lame. And then you only get 2 gold! LOL

since when is a random guy with a youtube channel the pulse of the gaming community?

We really gotta stop treating these guys as if they're more than just a real-life nobody with an opinion.

You have to at least wait until after the first month with MMOs when people are forced to dish out their first sub fee before you can judge anything about future success.

I think GS's review is pretty fair. I agree that the game needs to use more instancing to solidify immersion, but I think the reuse of voice actors is an unfair criticism that you really can't appreciate until you play the game. SWToR cost just about as much money to make, but leaves you thinking "where did they spend it all?" There's just soo many quests in ESO, which means so many NPCs. Not joking, the first zone of one campaign (there are three) has 100 different quests. This game probably has 800+ unique quests right at launch...that's a shitload of NPCs. Hiring unique voice actors for all of them would have been insanely expensive. Not to mention any old NPC you walk up to will say something to you if you click on them.

But the broken quests are being overblown. GW2 launched with broken events and skillpoints, with new ones breaking every day - the Orr region was broken as **** for weeks...and this went on for months, but nobody really complained...and there it sits with a metascore of 90. I've done at least 500 quests in ESO and literally 3 of them were broken and all this QQ'ing. Seriously guys. There are legitimate beefs with this game, but this is not one of them.

If I have to pay 60$ for it, just like every other game, and then pay 15$ more per month, it better be a REALLY cool game to ask for that kind of money. It doesn't appear to be a REALLY cool game.

Ya, i was wondering the same Ish, but unfortunately he does have a few hundred k subs and some support. i also agree with you that its strange that some in the gaming world treat this guy, who instead of finding a real job has decided to "bless" us with his opinions on games, like its the 2nd coming.

Because the critic he comes with is just bad. Gamespot's Kevin have a bit more valid points, but they are still out there and i think he has forgotten how 90% of mmos are and how even the flagship WoW is, with his "single and multi clash" The VA critic is just bad"

I'd love to play this game in a solo mode that took nothing someone else did into account. If it goes F2P, I'm going to try and play it single-player for the entire time. As far as it being a failure, how much money is it making? That's the only metric that matters.

Like all MMO's, it will evolve and get bigger and bigger as time goes on. I think they are hoping for a WOW user base but I don't see that happening, I suspect it will go the way of D&D among others and be FTP with buying options for more stuff in game eventually. It's not easy to keep people paying some $15 a month or whatever with so many games being released all the time, it's likely many players won't play enough monthly to hold it's value to them.

I think the fact that it's a standard run-of-the-mill MMO is the disappointing thing for a lot of people (well it isn't really a surprise), so I doubt playing it until you're a veteran would change your opinion of it, more-so drive you nuts.

@pimphand_gamer: Like all MMO's, it will evolve and get bigger and bigger as time goes on. I think they are hoping for a WOW user base but I don't see that happening

If that's their metric for success then they're just setting themselves up for failure. I don't see any game being that successful with that template ever again. People are just burned out on it. I think it's going to take a seriously innovative title to recapture those sorts of numbers. The genre could definitely use some serious soul searching.

That ESO isn't completely new is what accounts for a lot of the negativity I see towards the game...well, that and "I've never played an MMO; why isn't this more like Skyrim?" I know I've said it a few times, but ESO isn't going to change anyone's mind about MMOs. Nevertheless it's a really solid execution of the modern MMO formula. Easily one of the best entries in years. But if you're not into MMOs, that's not going to mean much to you. Even with that, I wouldn't be surprised if the average sub doesn't last more than a few months. It's a statement on where the genre is, really.

I;m just curious how well the MMO will be integrated to consoles, mainly Xbox One. If it has a decent community and okay reviews then I will be tempted to get it and an Xbox One of course.

I'm not even sure how AngryJoe got so popular, his reviews are shit and his gaming abilities are extremely subpar.

Regardless, ESO is an excellent PVE game. It is also an excellent siege type PVP game.

The only fault to ESO in my opinion is the lack of open world PVP and player/guild housing.

The graphics and animation are very nice, the combat is personal and visceral, the voice acting is phenomenal, the UI is minimal and clean, the servers are stable and solid. The latency has been extremely good. The content updates have been positive and frequent; same for the bug fixes.

People complaining about this game are mainly doing it because it's a sub game and the collectors edition included a horse and the imperial race. This got a lot of people pissed off because they don't want to spend any money on any games, so they bitch about it. Keep in mind these are the same people that bitch about F2P games.

Anyway, it's basically a bunch of people that think they know what makes a good game simply bitching and complaining about the things they didn't like and prematurally calling it "dead" "dying" or "terrible".

Its an excellent game that deserves far more praise than it is getting.

ArchAge is about the only other MMO I'm looking at that is more appealing, and that's only because it's true open world PVP and has player houses, guild castles, etc...
