Thank god they are not using the engine from the last game, or the buggy ones from Fallout 3 etc.

Game Informer (no link as printed publication, sorry) had a massive information blow-out on the new features found in the new game. They have been detailed on quite a few websites. Some good information sources if anyone is interested. Game of the year 2011?

I think Skyrim could be better than Oblivion, and that is somewhat hard to believe. If it is I think GOTY is a no-brainer. This year is going to be a great one in video games, that is for sure.

Wow... they listened to all the criticism of Oblivion. I think Bethesda and ZeniMax are going to be quickly becoming my favourite development studio. I can't wait for Skyrim... and all these media isn't going to help me keep my hype down.

Critically GOTY 2011? Nobody can read the future, but the chances are indeed high based on history. Regardless, I would bet money that it will be my personal GOTY. Nothing touches this game for me in 2011.

Must not have read both articles, I think it was the second one that stated less skills, and also they got rid of a class of magic (won't go as far as saying less magic because i don't know if they created new spells for the other classes.) Now that they slowed running backwards i wonder if they are going to overhaul archery. It was almost useless to begin with and the only saving grace it had is that you can run 15 miles per hour backwards. Also glad they ditched the class system. There were only two classes in Oblivion anyways, Mage and Fighter. Now it doesn't seem as bad if I make an a person with sneak and lockpicking and he/she spends most of the time fighting through quests.

@smerlus: I remain cautiously optimistic that these changes won't change it like those BioWare made for Mass Effect 2. Streamlining things in the Elder Scrolls may be what benefits it. As long as there are choices with consequences like those in New Vegas, and the ability to make characters disadvantaged in some way, I'll be happy. I have put over 500 hours into Oblivion not because of the combat or the quests... but for the world and the lore. And Skyrim is really looking good... and I hope Akavir makes it into it.

I totally agree that news like this may not be negative which is why i stopped at saying that Skyrim is going to have less Magic than Oblivion. However, I think going from Daggerfall > Morrowind > Oblivion and seeing skills cut out, it actually works to reduce other portions of the game. Look at taking Medium armor our and how many armors were found in Morrowind compared to Oblivion. Just taking out Levitation and all of a sudden caves and ruins lost a large portion of design. I guess they could do without Speechcraft, merge athletics and acrobatics and with the one school of magic being gone, the game wouldn't really suffer at all. Although once again it sets a bad example that if something is broke in an RPG, don't fix it, just get rid of it.

No worries. These sort of technical details never seem to get much attention on the main game websites.

It could still be buggy, depends how well Bethesda make the new engine. I'm not convinced, to be honest.

I'll admit the new engine sounds impressive, but shouting "GAME OF THE YEAR!!!" 11 months before anyone's played it might be a sign that everyone's getting a bit carried away with Skyrim.

Hey, if Bethesda can tag on GOTY on re-releases of Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, I don't see why this doesn't have potential to be that.

It's about time they ditched the Gamebyro engine. Hopefully a 3rd person view comes out that's actually useable.

It sure is sounding awesome. Personally I think Mass Effect 3 will end up being my GotY but I definitely don't mind having Skyrim and Dragon Age 2 follow closely behind it. 2011 looks like an absolutely amazing year for gaming that's for sure.

I hope it is amazing, it sounds like it has the potential to be much better than oblivion and other similar rpgs. Also I really hope it actually is released in 2011 as long as it isn't loaded with bugs, preferably no noticeable problematic bugs at all. I'm really looking forward to this game though.

Haven't been impressed with the screenshots nor the direction they're taking this game, but I've got a close eye on it.
