After last 2-3 years of playing a lot of games (AAA or indie), I came to a conclusion that the new Indie games give players a much better variety of music themes and go for the emotional kick better the the usual games.

Was totally surprised with some small indie studios (5-6 people) and the stuff they do. :)

So there is ofc a question, witch indie has surprised you regarding to the quality of inside music?

Hotline Miami's the only game whose soundtrack surprised me. Not because it was good, mind you (though it is really, really good!), but because it was all licensed. I never would have guessed that in a million years because it all fit so well with the game. Thought it was all custom made for the longest time.

Hotline Miami is a obvious gem, fantastic soundtrack all the way through.
I really liked the soundtrack in Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery as well.

Bastion, Orcs Must Die and Dear Esther are also worth a mention.

I haven't played many super indie titles - mostly just the popular ones but excellent musical scores always gives the opportunity to turn a great title into a masterpiece.

As much as I admire and respect indie devs and their games, there is just something truly awe-inspiring when playing a triple A title that has a well orchestrated and epic musical score that just completely immerses me in my virtual surrounding and I find my self being swept up and caught in the middle of a magnificent chaos.

There was one moment in particular in 2010's Medal of Honor that made me realize the majesty of music in video games. I'll never forget it.
