"The Commission does not have a critical mass of state aid decisions relating to games and therefore has insufficient experience to define common assessment and exemption criteria for this type of aid."

Isn't the game industry much bigger than films these days? Also, i'm kinda sick and tired of these so called film makers gets funding for showing of their nudity, bizarre fetishes - typical french or danish movies.

Please, do not ask for public funds for the game industry. It obviously doesn't need them, and it would definitely lead to abuse.

TC, if games got public funds it would lead to self-indulgent games in the vein of those self-indulgent movies you are complaining about.

I'm not sure about the film industry but the game industry had revenue figures of almost $79 billion in 2012:

Surely that's larger than the film industry? Maybe the game industry just doesn't need that extra funding because of its size. Despite the home cinema boom, every public cinema i've visited recently has been packed. Doesn't look like they need that funding so badly...

Actually I heard some countries do give aid to small companies creating games. I think that one indie studio from Denmark did get government aid.

My brain is dying so I cant think of other examples or names :|

Even in USA some game studios get funding from the government, just think of 38-studios and there are probably more.

I wonder if you're thinking of Red Thread Games. Norway just gave them some money to make a horror game.

I have definitely heard of other examples too (possibly even here in Australia), but can't think of any specifically at the moment.

Its actually quite common in most european countries to give support to gamedevelopment plus you have the EU´s support also, which is why you see a big increase in eastern-european studios which start out making small games with goverment funding and then move on to bigger more AAA type games.
