When i finish a game, i know that thats it, once i beat it, i dont know when will be the next time i will replay it (if i will replay it at all).

Im trying to keep my game list short and still there is a lot of good game and i know that im done with most of them for good.

Im only gaming on pc and ps3 sometimes, i cant imagine people with a 5 or more console.

How about you?

No, not really.

It's just a game. Sometimes, I'll feel happy that I finally beat it or even disappointed that it finally ended, either longer or quicker.

But sad? No.

Well... yeah. But it happened to me with only 2 games so far. The first time was when I played Indigo Prophecy. I loved that game, I still do. I still play it from time to time, but it's not the same as the first time. The second game was Heavy Rain. The story was just great, the ending was very surprising to me, I still play that game too, but just like Indigo Prophecy, the first time is always special. :)

I actually find that very common on anything with a good story/good gameplay combo. I'm like yes after 32 hours I have finished it! Oh wait really?

Finishing Xenosaga Episode III made me feel saddest after finishing. Probably a combination of the following.

 • I'd just spent 110 hours with the series and its characters and had gotten attached to them.
 • The ending is painfully depressing in just about every way.
 • The series got cancelled and there will likely never be a real conclusion.
 • Xenogears and Xenosaga are the pinnacle of storyline in RPGs for me, and once it was over I knew it was going to be a very long time before I find another that can match it. Still waiting.

Artistic games in general leave me feeling a bit empty when they're over. Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill 2, Okami...

I completely agree -.- xenosaga series is by far my favorite series :3 and it is the most complex one I can think of... :3

if only people were more sophisticated they'd admire such games for how great they really are, instead of going "oh I don't like the graphics/etc" and giving other various poor excuses all of the time.

Only with certain games. Games that are long with epic stories and sad things in the story though. Some examples are the Metal Gear Solid series (Snake Eater in particular), and Red Dead Redemption. It is when you get attached to the character and get used to seeing them every day, and another example would be the Grand Theft Auto series, but San Andreas in particular. Because that game is so long, when you finish the last mission it's like "that's it for now". Story wise, anyway.

When I finished STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl for the first time and realised I had gotten the bad ending ('I want the Zone to disappear'). Had to load a save from like 3-4 hours back and play even longer to get to the good ending. But it was worth it.

That's how I know if I really enjoyed something - if I feel that bittersweet emotion when it's all over, that I really enjoyed myself, but I'll miss the experience I was engaged in, now that the adventure is over.

Sometimes, especially lately, I feel as if I don't get to enjoy the game to it's full potential before moving on to other games. I feel this way with Fallout New Vegas, I have wanted to go back and make a second character ever since I beat the game the first time, but with so much other gaming on my plate, it's proven impossible.

I'll sometimes put off finishing a game that I really like because I don't want it to end. It makes no sense because it seems like I'd be excited to play it in its entirety.

I do the same thing with candy, incidentally. If there's only a few pieces left, I'll keep them for later because I don't want to be in a situation where I have no candy.... but then it gets old and gross, depending on the type, and I have no candy. :(

Games that are truly immersive, have great characters, are very dramatic/emotional, or have very epic stories maygetme a little misty-eyed.

Especially games that require you to put a lot of time into. So really heavy, engaging, epic RPGs would make mefeel that way at the end.

I felt sad when finishing Halo 3. Being seemingly quite naieve at the time, i thought that it would be the last Halo i would play (i pictured it being the final chapter of the series). Halo was a huge part of my life. Halo: Combat Evolved was the first game i ever played seriously, and played to the end, and having it being the game that got me into gaming, i developed an emotional attachment to it (for the recordi was 7 when i first played it). For something that had such a big impact on my life, i was sad at the thought of that being the end of it.

Of course, as we know, they went on to release ODST and Reach, so that wasnt the end to the series, although i dont get the same feel out of those as i did from Halo: CE, 2 and 3.

I know, im a nostalgic fool :P

Once you manage to go to the end of the game, then mostly you stop playing that game (atleast for some period). Sometimes a bit sadness is felt but at that time you are also thinking about which game to start now and that's why sadness goes away the moment you got a new game of your choice.

Same here. I also got the same from Okami. Basically for me it is any game with characters or worlds that you end up caring about. Beyond Good & Evil is another example of a game that did it for me.

i felt sad finishing Persona 3 and 4, cause there was no more Persona game to play afterwards :( It felt like there's something missing during my daily routines.... but it eventually goes away and another game comes in to fill the gap.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.

It had an extremely depressing ending AND I hate replaying games when I know something major has happened in the story that's not reflected in my next play through.

Like the Megaman Battle Network games, I would save the world from an evil organisation, then the next time I loaded the game up every single person would speak to me as if killing the final boss should be the only thing on my mind, DESPITE already having done it once.

I see that this is a really old thread, but I had to make an account just so I could comment. I go through this with nearly every good game I play. I am going through this really bad right now for I just beat The Last of Us. It's nice to see that I am not the only one who goes through this, and I like the idea that it is that we become attached to the characters, plot, and world after inviting them into our lives every day for some time. inFAMOUS 2, Assassin's Creed III, L.A. Noire, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 2 (havent played 3rd yet), Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecy, MGS 4, Dishonored...the list goes on and on. I love playing the games, and I get really excited when I get close to beating them, excited for the conclusion, always forgetting about that empty feeling that comes with it until it finally hits me. I actually go online and do searches about the endings of the games to see what others thought, it keeps me feeling like I'm still a part of it's world some how. I can't play the game again though to get rid of the feeling, like you guys said, it's never the same. Like with Heavy Rain, I
screwed up the first time and got Shawn killed by going to the wrong location. I replayed the last part so I could get the location right, but the cutscene of him being dead is the one that kept in my mind as the one that actually happened, and that's how the world went.
I don't play games for the story, I'm in it for the gameplay baby ! I'm not done with a game when the credits roll, I'm done when I've mastered it ! Although I was sad when Bioshock Infinite was over, not because of the story but because I spent $85 on a game with gameplay so frustrating I couldn't play it more than twice. Portal 2 is the only game that made me feel genuinely sad it was over !

Felt sad after finishing the Witcher series. I didn't really take note of them over the years but after building my gaming rig earlier this year I decided to give the first a shot. ~80 hours later I had finished both the first and second, which I went straight into after the first. It's been a long time since I've been so invested in a game and it's world. Knowing I have to wait for the third game was upsetting.

Edit: Oh! NIER! I completed the game multiple times so I could 100% it and was so sad when I did because I knew there would be nothing like it ever again. I loved everything about it. Everything. Even the things people hated, like the combat, side quests, grinding, item farming and even fishing. The game was pretty much made for me, but I knew it would be a hit and miss game for a lot of people, mostly miss, so I'd never see a sequel, spiritual or direct.

I did with L.A Noire I thought "Is that it?" and have not gone back to it.

CUDGEdave

I remember that for some reason, late in the game, they actually switched the player's character from the fairly interesting protagonist you played for most of the game, to some other guy that was basically a shallow he-man Mary Sue. I can't remember either of their names, but it was one of the worst storytelling decisions I've ever seen.

I've learned to not really give a shit about video game storytelling. If it sucks, that figures because it's a video game, and if it's good, it's a pleasant surprise.

Yep, old thread but that's ok. I felt the same way about FFX. It was the only FF game i'd played up to that point that had a sad ending. It really hurt me knowing that things didn't work out how they normally do. But it was refreshing since they decided to shake things up with the RPG story formula.

Jane_22
Hmm, not so much sad but i have been disappointed like with the ending in Masseffect 3 that gave the player a big f you and LA Noire where i didn´t see the point in the ending, despite what the main character had done. This ending also shows a lack of imagination from the writers, because its to easy a way out. Other than that there is always the natural "darn is that all" when a good game is done.

I don´t agree here, that switch was actually one of the good things about the game, i will grant you tho that Kelso was a bit annoying but i liked the character not as much as Cole tho.
