What was the longest gaming dry spell you ever had? I don't mean stopping because there's nothing that interests you, but stopping because you're just too lethargic to play (basically it means nothing interests you, but yea...). This is what I've been feeling in the past half a month or so, during which I haven't really played anything even though I've quite a few titles available on my shelf. I just don't feel like spending my precious time off from work on solving bs problems in virtual reality anymore, because, hey, don't we all have more than enough of those in the office?

I guess what I'm really wondering is whether I've grown out of it or moved on. you ever felt the same?

No, I've never been tired of gaming. If that ever happened, I would stop posting on a gaming website. No point in posting really, if you don't game.:)

Right now really. The following image sums it up nicely. On a completely unrelated note, why are images so tempermental on this site. It's like there's a 50 50 chance it will work.

I definitely get that way sometimes. When I was unemployed I was playing almost non-stop (inbetween job hunting and interviews) and burnt myself out pretty good. I don't need a long break to get back into it, so my longest downtime (that wasn't intentional, like a vacation without access to games) is probably a few days lol.

Yes. For like the last 5 years or so. I play stuff because i have nothing else to do and sometimes i enjoy myself. Thats it though. Not like it use to be where I HAD to play stuff. Nowadays if i had something else fun to do all the time i could never play another game and be cool with it.

Back in the PS2 days, I'd buy a game and play through it, but then not buy another game for 6 moths to a year. Since I've got my PS3 though, I've played it almost every night. Oh sure, there are some nights I just don't feel like it, but I'm usually back in the mood by the next day.

The only time I really thought I'd lost my interest in gaming was after playing Final Fantasy XIII. That game was so freaking boring and monotonous I didn't feel like turning my PS3 on again for two weeks afterwards.

I don't think 90% of the people here even play games, going by the both bitter and mindless posts that are constantly posted on these Internet sites, especially based off the 2 times I've gone to System Wars. And from my understanding GameSpot is much more toned than the other depths of the Internet with these Internet people.

Hehe people that play games are the ones that you don't see around here too often. They're out enjoying said games instead of arguing about the most pointless and unintelligent things on this here Internet. One of the cons of the once "information highway" hehe...

But hey that's just my understanding of the matter. I'm not calling anyone out on this description.

Yep I have a theory. Pay-for-time services like XBL pressure me to play when I don't really feel like it, when normally I would play every 2-3 days when I felt like it, I tend to play every night to make good use of the sub. This makes me get burnt out on gaming sometimes. It's why I like my PS3 better, I feel more free, can play every 2-3 days without worrying that my sub is running out, or even take a week off if I feel like it. I swear to god this is not a console wars troll. I love my 360. Just hate feeling pressured to use it more than I comfortably want to. I think people should have only 1 gaming system, and only a small collection of games they really want to play. That way it's less time-pressure and more of a "play when you feel like it" kind of thing. Also, if your RL stuff isn't getting done, your gaming time will not feel as good. So make sure you take care of business IRL before sitting down to play.

Sometimes. But when I do then I just do some reading or other activity for a while until I feel like gaming again. At this time I fancy playing Virtua Tennis 4 and reading a few books.

I've got that right now. I can't seem to play a game for more than a few minutes without getting really bored and quitting. Hence why I'm attempting to read The Lord of the Rings again to keep me busy.

I sure have. Sometimes I will just be too busy with work and other things that when I get home I don't really want to turn on the game and throw myself into a mentally stressful environment. About once every 3 months I'll take a week off from gaming, and I usually take a day or two off every couple weeks.

Longest lull I've had with gameing was probably 3-4 months. I don't know why, just nothing interested me.

Best way to combat this problem is to just go out, buy an older game you missed out on that was well recieved, and not take it too seriously. You'll probably have newfound respect for it, because it isn't being talked about constantly, leaveing you to form your own opinion on the matter (and odds are, it'll be easier to enjoy being cheaper to buy than a brand new game).

Can't think of a time that's ever happend to me... If I get tired of a certain game, I play a different genre or play a game I know I'll love.

I've had breaks for years at a time, or just very light gaming on the SNES or PS2. I tire more of buying and collecting games than I do playing them though. After work, yeah, I'm usually just wanting to rest. But if there's an interesting enough game, I might fein some rest to play.

Occasionally. I think the longest I went without gaming any was about one and a half months. I always come back to it though. Hey, it's more fun than watching whatever dumb shows are on tv.

Yes up until recently I were extreamly tired of seing the same old games come out year after year. However the fall of 2011 looks to completely turn things upside down with it's massive amount of games being released. I'll probably not play another CoD or Halo for that matter, in a looooong time...though.

dude i feel the same way, and it's not because you've grown out of it, it's because cod represents the gaming industry now and games are all about guns now. the gaming industry has gone downhill this year imo 2011 is the worst year for gaming unless your a shooter fan

It's happened to me once during this generation just recently actually. Like back from March-May of this year. I just stopped caring about video games and lost complete interest. But, probably the two things that got me back into it was the Uncharted 3 Beta and just the huge community gaming has on forums and youtube made me care a lot more for it :)

I didn't play games actively for 2 years. It's because I was stuck with a Wii. Then I got an Xbox 360 and I started to love gaming all over again.

I usually play games for half a year, then take a break for the remainder of the year. I don't even mean to do it, it just sort of happens lol.

Eh.. some people that post here often lie about what they've played and even their ownership of it is questionable. Topsemag55, I know for sure plays games and frequents the forums enough to be a familiar "face." I probably spend more time posting and reading on the forums but I try to squeeze in a few hours a week for that one game I like a lot at the moment. :)

Although I'm more surprised at the people I see posting a lot and gaming a lot. But I think the ones that play the most only post in the screenshots thread. Now those guys game a lot, post screenshots and then leave. :P

I still play, but not as much as I used to. Mostly because I think most games today lack depth. It's all flash and no substance, or ported from console.

I hate the phrase "grown out of it". You can't grow out of something that's enjoyable by people of all ages. You will get tired of, yes. But you never "grow out of it." Anyway, I've felt that all the time, I take breaks, then I game hardcore, then I take a break again and so on.

Last year I consider to sell my PS3 because there a very few games that interest me; then the news of FC3 make me interest in gaming again. But I still dont play many game. There's only 1 game I want to buy in the rest of this year is Skyrim. Right now I want to try some games to pass time while waiting for Skyrim like Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2.

I'm really bored of gaming right now since i don't have any games that interest me at the moment. I would buy Resistance 3 but games are expensive and I don't need to spend 60$ on a game when Uncharted 3 games out November 1st and the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer free Access Subway deal starts October 1st

I've been gaming for a long time, since I was a child. I've never grown tired of it. Sure there have been times where life gets in the way and I've been unable to fire up a game and play. However there has never been a time where I've simply not had the desire to play. I have three hobbys; Soccer in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and gaming when I don't want to leave my house. :)

I'm bored of gaming at the minute. I just don't feel like playing anything. I bought Deus Ex last week and still haven't opened it, I might return it to the store and buy it again next year. My lapse in interest probably stems from the lack of releases lately.

I had this feeling not so long ago and i just didnt play anything untill i got the feeling that i want to play again.

The things is, when i was small i playedthe samegame for half a year, and when i finished it ill start it right away again (the very first rayman), we didnt have a lot of games in my county in the 90' so i really didnt have the choice but to play it again.

The problem now is way too many games, you getting overwhelmed easly, this is why i keep maximum of 2 gaming systems, my pc & ps3...hell, even this is too many, i would stay only with my pc but i will be missing some great games.

I felt the same, it got to the point where i couldnt be bothered to play anything. Then i got a ps3 6weeks ago and things changed as the majority of my close friends own and play it online, plus my best friends into the same style games so we bounce off each other and buy/rent a new game to play with each other.

Well being as that I have a wife, 2 kids, and a job where my company needs my attention more than my wife does, I rarely get that time to have a couple hours on the 360 but when I do get that time I charish it. So essentially no It never really gets old for me.

Right now really. The following image sums it up nicely. On a completely unrelated note, why are images so tempermental on this site. It's like there's a 50 50 chance it will work.

I used to lose interest in gaming every now and then. Take a couple of weeks off to just watch movies and read books. Now that I've got a family though gaming is the best use of the little time I do get to myself, and I'd rather spend a half an hour getting in some TF2 matches or Fable 3 than watching part of a movie and having to stop halfway through.
