Do you ever find yourself expecting a trophy or achievement to pop in a game that doesn't have them?

I've been playing quite a bit of 3DS, PSP and Wii lately and, when I achieve a goal or perform a task, find myself looking to the top of the screen for a notification... then laughing at my own stupidity as, obviously, nothing is going to appear. It's just for a fraction of a second of course but interesting that it happens.

I find it bizarre that my automatic reaction is to look for this little popup as, since starting my "shame pile project" I haven't been paying much attention to achievements and trophies. Side effect is taht I'm enjoying gaming a LOT more. I still like the idea of them but they're rarely implemented properly and often have you either scouring the map for useless collectibles or performing strange or repetetive tasks that you wouldn't normally do.

Thoughts on the systems aside I was curious as to whether any of you had experienced this? Have you ever found yourself looking for a popup notification in a game that won't have one?

Yeah when I play a game on the Wii, DS, or 3DS I expect a pop-up after I beat a boss or do something significant in the game. I of course always feel a bit disappointed when this doesn't happen. Achievements/trophies have become such an integral part of gaming for me that I always feel that something is missing when I play a game without them.

I've had moments where I think "this would probably make a good achievement," or "if this had achievements, they'd have definitely thrown one in here." Doesn't happen very often, though. But yes -- it has happened in a way.

Nope. I have quite a few games that don't have trophies or achievements. I actually have friend and trophy notifications turned off on my consoles because it's annoying with them popping up.

Same. I find that pop up to be distracting and takes me out of the game. It ruins the immersion.

there are some games i feel that deserve achievements for various things that dont have them i agree. but i could care less if they added them. and some of them are fairly challenging. basically any of the secrets in painkiller are worth of rewarding the player. many of them are seirous hard. heres one:

I've never played a non-achievement game and found myself looking for the pop-up notifications.

I HAVE however played a non-achievement game and found myself thinking - "Man, this game would be MUCH better with achievements!"

That tends to happen with almost every non-achievement game I play.

* for the record: when I say "achievement" I do also mean trophies as well. I'm not stating a preference, just laziness with typing.
