Did you ever have a game so terrible and overrated that it made you want to send it back to the company in pieces? For me: The Witcher. That game was just an epic /fail. They called it an RPG, but you couldn't buy gear, name your character, the engine was a joke, I couldn't pick or choose any of the quests, who I could work with or work alone, etc. For this game, they spent too much time on the cool cinematics and very little on the game itself. I broke the cd in pieces and tossed it in the trash, after using many select words. What is your "OMFG!!!" game?

Gran Turismo for the PS. Only because I sucked hard at it at first. After I became decent, I was hooked. Worst game overall...Mercenaries 2 or some cheap knock-off of roller coaster-tycoon whos name escapes me.

I guess that means a lot of those Japanese role-playing games (and a few western ones too I imagine) aren't actual RPGs then. Seeing as they don't let you do that either.

My question would be why didn't you just trade it in or sell it? Even if you hate the game, I think breaking the game into pieces is pretty drastic.

Definition of an RPG is a game where you can create and name your character and play the role. Examples of a proper RPG: TES, NWN, Baldurs Gates and Icewind Dales, Warhammer, World of Warcraft. Examples of Action/Adventure, RPG wannabes: The Witcher, Dark Messiah, Enclave, Fable, and Planescape: Torment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game#Statistics

I don't agree what-so-ever. Final Fantasy games aren't RPGs? I think your definition is rather shallow and doesn't get to the heart of RPGs.

I agree that your definition of an rpg is flawed but naming your character is not the only thing he mentioned was wrong with the game.

The Witcher is a good game IMO, the downside would be the gloomy atmosphere but that is a part of the game. plus you need to read this.

I don't really have one, because all the games I have are decent, or just plain awesome.

Battle Network 4. I had never seen Capcom fail so miserably.

An abysmal storyline and grievous grammar mistakes is enough.

Wiki was never a good place to find a legit definiton.

RPG literally translates itself. Role Playing game. you play the role of a character, yours you made from scratch or one pre-made, in a game, interactive setting. It can have those elements such as naming characters, sculpting your person before game, but if you think about it, your already constantly 'creating' your character by adding bits and pieces to him or her. Skill, armor, gems, all things that 'create' this character, who is basically yours. and who says you can't name your character? just because there is no actual place to put in the name, doesn't mean you can't call Tidus or Leon "The grave digger". Its a game, whatever small bits like that you see missing, fill in the gap with your imagination. heck, thats what helps you play all those Open world RPGs, so doing so to protray your thought of the character will enhance your experience of the game anyway. If you really need anymore things to think about, remember when you and your friends used to run around playing 'transformers' and you were 'starsream'? That is Also A Roleplaying game.

On-topic

only game i think i really wanted to break up and leave a blood trail with is probably Spore. I bought it because i wanted to have something to generate monsters in, and while i was doing it, it was fine, then I actually tried the game and I wanted to slice it open. the game was destroyed by that part.
