And when you get in high school, if your team is really good they could travel an d compete against other teams around the state. They could have special teams like a halo team, a COD team, GOW team , or even a AVP team. I would defintely be on my schools Halo and AVP team.

Gaming is a hobby, not a sport. Schools don't make teams for hobbies. Sometimes they do extracurricular clubs that the student goes to on their own time. Other than hand-eye coordination and related sub-skills... there is really nothing beneficial that gaming can "teach" students.

That would be cool. I don't know if the academic community would smile on that, though :)

Woah woah woah!!! Waste of money? I love the olympics so do millions of people o_o I can't wait till next year for it!! It's really not a waste of money.

@Topic

I don't think it will ever happen. Schools want to encourage physical activities, watching TV, or Playing video games is something schools have always blamed for low grades, and if it did the participants would clearly be targets for bullies.

Good idea, I think if someone thinks otherwise and says that it does nothing for your mind should play Portal or remember playing it. Where I grow up the only events are about basketball, I still don't know why there is a stereotype against gaming because I beleive I have become smarter and increased my puzzle solving skill ten fold.

When kids start getting C's, D's, and F's, they'll immediately start blaming this "Game Club" and it'll be over before you know it. :P

I would never send an child of mine to a school that had video game teams. A kid will face enough from thier classmates without the usual bs of video game competitions added to the mix.

Most Colleges and Trade Schools do.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that. Not an official team, but a club of some sort where you can get together with people who enjoy the same thing.

i dont pay tax money for my kid to play video games at school. it is bad enough that teachers allow kids to have cell phones/ipods/ds/laptops etc...even with them at school. When you are at school, learning, then why do you need to txt your friend sitting in the classroom across from you?

I also wanted to say that. While I have no problem that people like to watch sports, I find it highly overrated.

No they shouldn't. My tax money is not going to pay for kids to play games at school.

I'm a big time gamer, but I feel that school is for education and character-building.

Phones can do a lot more then that...

The High School I went to had a no phone rule, and I think it's ridiculous. Heck, I wrote an essay decribing why I think that and my teacher gave me full points for it. :P (And he is very much in favor of the rule, it didn't change his mind, but he did say they were logical reasons, and presented very well)

But in short, when you are on break, why shouldn't you be able to talk on the phone? Maybe you have a friend who isn't in the building that you want to talk to. Or heck, maybe you just want to pull out your phone to check the time in class. Why shouldn't this stuff be allowed?

And if schools start banning MP3 players and laptops I will seriously go crazy.

But on topic, I have to agree that while a video game team could be fun, it's not the kind of thing people should be paying taxes for.

Many universities and colleges have their own StarCraft teams, so it already happens on some level. I don't think elementary/high schools should spend money on running sport teams though.

you think you are learning most of the time at school ? It is 75% crap and you learn a couple of things here and there. If you think kids should be doing nothing but learning while at school theres tons of things you should change before you get rid of ipods and cell phones.

I think it would be cool but not on tax dollars. Where i live, in arizona, the school system is already messed up and they can bearly fund normal school functions.

It would be cool to have some kind of game design class where you can learn basics in game design. I had some freinds in college who had these kind of programs availble to them. But other than that no way not on tax dollars.

just fix it with you can only stay in the club with B's and A's ...transportation for tournaments not included...never going to happen though :/

If you have a school like mine with no school spirit, you need all the interesting clubs you can get :P We don't even have a swim or dance team due to cuts, they're "clubs" on campus.

To the tax payers out there game clubs or film clubs or whatever the club isaren't paid for by the school or college It's all done by the students.

When I was at college in the UK there were hundreds of clubs even game clubs allset up by the students, all you had to do was fill out a form and get a few people onboardand bring your own console and games. no money involved unless stuff was paid for by the the students.

And what games would you suggest these "clubs" play, bareing in mind ALL the game you listed are rated 18 or mature and NO school would allow that, the games would have to be rated UNDER 12.

i run a business now and have close to 60 employess across 5 stores i manage. i have to fight with employees standing around, on the clock, txting, or talking on their cell phones in the bathroom just to hide it away. i find this sad. I have more then enough time in the day(working, wife/kids) to find time for my video game addition. kids have more free time, while you are at school, learn somthing.

My little sister is in basketball this year. Her schools has a new policy where the sports teams are 100% funded by donations. She had to get $350 in sponsors before they would let her play. Plus she had to buy her uniform and a special pair of shoes. You also have to pay to get into every game. If done in this way, it could work. It wouldn`t use any of your precious tax money. It would bring a community of like minded people together. It would be no different then a chess, or debate team. You could have a school WoW guild. You could have classic Fridays where you bring old school nes, genesis, and other old school game systems. It could work.
