I just heard about them the other day and the site has some promising info. However a site can look nice but the store could suck. Google it my friend...

There is a play n trade near me and everytime i have visited i have had a bad experience. first i have my suspision that there new games arn't so new. none come in the package and they have a disc repair machine hidden under there counter and i beleave they just doctor up the discs and put them up for high prices. second was the mngr of the store told me there trade in value and payout was more then gamestops i quoted gamestop and they offered $10 dollers more for one game. that game was Call of Duty 4 for the xbox 360 i had bought it supposable brand new from PNT because my original disc was damaged and took my original disc to them and they ran it threw there little hidden machine and tested it on there xbox and it would not work. i took it home and it worked on mine so i decided to take the "brand new disc back and keep the old they would not give me a refund and only gave me $20 for trade in. Gamestop quoted the same game for $30. i decided to stop there today again even though i told myself not to and asked the clerk about prchasing Gta San Andreas for the Original Xbox. i made it clear and he said to me that it didn't exist i asked if he was sure and didn't bother to research and was sure of himself i got home and found the game on Half.ebay.com. As far as service and gurrantes and that store in general i do not care for shoping there anymore.

They opened a Play N Trade around the corner from me here on Long Island, NY and I must say that your experience with them is limited to your local store. Each store is privately owned and so the customer service, policies, and trade in values pretty much vary from store to store. One thing you seem to be making misleading is that they have a "hidden" disc repair machine under the desk. First off they advertise on their main website that they do disc repair and offer it as a service to get scratched games working again. They don't secretly repair games without you knowing.

When I have purchased new games they have been sealed in the plastic unlike Gamestop who gives you USED games and claims that they are the "last copy from the shelf" and puts a **** sticker over the opening of the box to keep it closed on top of all the price stickers they **** put all over the box itself which causes you to have to scratch off all the glue leftover on your case. SO ANNOYING.

So far the Trade-In values there are better then Gamestop by a couple of dollars. But even a dollar more is a better deal but I still say to sell your games on ebay or craigslist because I always get atleast 80% of the original price I paid back. Play N Trade also allows you to try any game you want before you buy it and they also carry retro consoles and games including collectors items and rare games. You can buy an original Coleco Vision or an Atari if you want and they also take any system in for trade. You could trade your old N64 or SNES or NES if you wanted or you can buy one for mad cheap and get some great old games for good prices.

All in all Play N Trade is way better then Gamestop.

Saying it is better is a blanket statement, you even said yourself that they are all privately owned. So the one near you could be really good and another one somewhere else like the other guys could be terrible. Yes being able to play any game before you buy it sounds good, Gamestop you can try any game as long as it is used, so it is -basically- the same thing. Around here the Play N Trade really is more of the ghetto game store.

There's a PNT store in my area and tried them a comple of times, mostly because I'm looking for a specific old game (not really that old...) and Gamestop didn't have them. But my experience with PNT was pretty bad. wushdishmeen said PNT let you try out games, well, that never happened to me. Also, they're a lot more strict with returning games than Gamestop. The game I bought was Silent Hill 3, after I went home and played it for an hour or so, the camera was so bad in that game I got motion sickness (it never happens to me in a TPS before). So I try to return the game the next day, and I explain to them why. The cashier was more than happy to return it but the manager later said no. I was pretty frustrated becasue GS let you return games in 7 days no question asked. Also, I just feel that GS stores has better costumer service, and guy works there really know games. The games are pretty much the same though.

The PlayNTrade I go to is Great one. You have to understand that each playntrade is different from one another. PlayNTrade gives more for money for trade-ins (buy a couple dollars which is better then what gamestop would give you). My Friend Got red ring of death on his xbox 360 and they fix for 5 dollars. So like that they fix consle. They make you a member for free and give 10 to 20% of used games and stuff. There reto selection ( which is great that the one I go to is good) you can find good deals and go back to the atari 2600. The Employes are Nice and friendly and now Some knowledge about games, Not like the idoits at gamestop. Theyhost tourments and give good prizes. The PlayNTrade I got Keep up with all the new games so I dont have to worry about being behind. Also they sell import games and accessories which they sell at cheap price. They also sell candy and Engery drinks which nice. So if don't like or hate GAMESTOP, then I would try your local PlayNTrade; But they dont have one near you or its not that great, I would go too a Game Crazy or independet game store.

There was one near where I lived, but it went out of business before I ever had the chance to check it out. I don't know how much control you have over the pricing of used games, but my biggest piece of advice would be to sell your used games at a more reasonable price than gamestop, who gives only a lousy a 10% discount for a game being used vs buying one new.

There is one relativley close to me, and me and a friend went there once. THey actually let you try the games before you buy them... which is how my friend decided to get Mega Man X. THat's right, they sell lots of retro games too. Lastly, their prices are great, better than Gamestop's.

There's one that open in my area for just over a year now and i must say my over all experience with them have been positive. The staff seem friendly and knowledgeable, which is more than what i can say about my local gamestop. I cant really comment on the trade in value of used games b/c I refuse to sell any games. One thing i've found annoying about them is getting a game at release. As a smaller retailer, they dont seem to have priority vs. other outlets such as gamestop or bestbuy which means getting the games that i want on release are a few days behind. Personally i think it's a load of bs and they need to get on their distributor but that's just my opinion. They say the problem wouldnt arise if i preordered but that was bs b/c i preordered Street fighter from them and it was still two days late. All this can be forgiven though b/c i rarely preorder, goes against my principles. If one retailer doesnt have it, then another one will.

A couple people in my family actually run a PNT and there's is much more enjoyable than the local gamestops. They're pricing structure is very similar to gamestop with respect to used stuff. New stuff is the same pretty much anywhere. They have a very loyal following of kids who are in there 7 days a week for hours at a time, hanging out, playing games and whatnot, and when they get the money to buy games they get them there. I'm on the outside looking in as I am not personally active in the company, but I'm close enough to the situation to see that it's a tough road opening up a PNT. Margins are very very slim. Best Buy and GameStop buy theoretically hundreds of thousands of copies of some of the more popular games and probably get better pricing on them than PNT. PNT buys new games wholesale for $50-55 for $60 retail games. So after paying credit card fees and franchisee fees, it's almost a wash to sell a new game, you maybe make a few bucks. It's an even uglier story on the consoles, as the mark up is a similar $5-10 and the credit card and royalty fees are even higher. So really, all the money comes from used games, which are generally marked up 75-100%. That equates to a lot of used games every day/week/month/year etc. to pay your lease/staff/expenses and still turn a profit. It's why if you do enough research you will see a lot of PNT's fold. My family seems to be doing OK, but they run a tight ship and run very lean as far as staff, and customer service wise they are fantastic. Treat people with respect, know the games, etc. The real way to make money doing something like that seems to be volume. If you run one store that clears $30,000 a year after taxes and expenses, you are living a meager life. If you own 10 stores with the same small overall margins, you are doing quite well for yourself. This is why come Black Friday you see Best Buy and GameStop have a couple brand new games on sale for $30 or $40, huge volume of business can soak up the losses they take selling those games at those prices and they want to get you in the door to buy multiple things. The average PNT owner likely couldn't afford eat those types of losses unless they owned a large number of stores. My family's store is a great store. Much larger selection than at GameStop, about 10 big LCD tv's with all sorts of new and retro games running, tons of cool video game swag/decor all over. It's a great experience, but as each are privately owned/operated, ymmv. There's nothing to stop you from being successful opening a store yourself but the amount of time, money and effort you put into it. Having a good selection and a friendly, knowledgeable staff will automatically put you legs up on gamestop 362 days out of the year (save for black friday weekend) because PNT's do retro games, fix discs and consoles, have a better try before you buy policy, and generally have way more playable machines on the floor than any gamestop i've been in.

Lol,the one near me is fantastic, great freindly service low prices. The gamestop near me gave me $10 total for starwars battlefront 2 cod3 gta San adreas, and guitar hero 5. It just depends who manages the store, each one is an individual franchise.
