some positive ones coming through

I'll post some different verdicts

"Everything we loved about Fallout 3, and much more. New Vegas improves on the original in almost every way" 5 stars

"Fallout: New Vegas somehow manages to have even more technical problems than Fallout 3 did, but its great characters and setting still shine through."

"Have you played Fallout 3? If so, then you've played Fallout: New Vegas"

Planet Xbox360 - 8.8/10

Eurogamer - 90/100

Xbox Magazine UK - 90/100

G4TV - 4/5

Filefront: 91/100

Joystiq - 3.5/5

Computerandvideogames.com - 8.1/10

The main cons reviews go with is the

Dated graphics
* Pathing and collision issues
* Horrific loading times

I think this says it all

"If you loved Fallout 3, you're going to love this. If you hated it or weren't interested enough to give it a shot, you're going to be more confused than ever what all the fuss is about."

Lasvegasusa.org - 4.5/5

"While Fallout: New Vegas may feel like an expansion to Fallout 3, it offers something that fans of Fallout cannot resist. The lengthy adventure, epic story, and the plethora of quests give gamers more reasons to spend time on the game. It may not win a Game of the Year award but it's one of those games that we are considering. Fallout fans that played Fallout 3 might feel like they're just playing an expansion, but it's still worth the purchase!"

well there we go - I think we all get the jist

This was not unexpected but at least it plays the same as an excellent game.

if it isn't broke there is no need to fix it, some people may disagree but i don't see anything bad in continuing an excellent formula like fallout 3

In this case the game not only is longer but vastly improves the base Fallout 3 gameplay. The story is so much better, the improvement of the choices you are given is worth the price of admission alone. The hard mode thing is also pretty amazing although a bit daunting for me. The games buggy though, but thats something I exected so I guess It barely affects my opinion of the game.

The main cons seems to be:

*Bugs

*Bugs

*Bugs

*framerate issues

Beth really should enlarge their testing team. They make such huge games but it seems that a.) Their testing team is small b.) everything is finished during the last month.

New Vegas isn't made by Bethesda.

But anyway, it's great to hear that bugs are the main complaint about NV. They'll be patched/modded out fairly quickly, leaving us with a bunch of awesome RPG-goodness.

Yes, I know. But usually the publisher is responsible for testing the game and telling the developers about the bugs. Testing at the development studio is usually to make sure the gameplay is good. So far Beth has done a terrible job testing all their big games, whether they make it or someone else does.

As i thought, new vegas has some nice additions, yet it feels too much like fallout 3 and obsidian managed to make the game more buggy.

that IGN Uk review was great

Fallout: New Vegas is the game that many wanted Fallout 3 to be. It's harder, more ruthless, better written and more morally ambiguous. It's a game we've been wanting to play for more than a decade, a real modern re-imagining of the Fallout series, complete with that deliciously black humour. But it's also more of the same, aesthetically and technically identical to Fallout 3, wonky facial animation and all. The ever-so-slightly ageing technology only marginally detracts from what is otherwise an expansive, fulfilling and ambitious game, unmatched in scope and maturity. If Obsidian were to make another Fallout game, we certainly wouldn't say no.

My worries about the game are gone from the reviews and impressions I've read. I can deal with bugs and whatnot. This sounds like, at its core, it is a better game than Fallout 3, which means it will likely devour my soul until sometime around next Spring.:)

I'm going to be brave and get the PS3 version for now. My laptop can run Oblivion on low-ish to medium settings, and I have a feeling New Vegas is maybe just a touch more demanding.

Publishers don't test games, thats the Devs job.

Bugs will be fixed with patches and mods.

Graphics will be greatly improved with mods.

I'll probably pick it up next week.

May as well wait until the inevitable GOTY edition with all DLC for only $60.

While the scores are predictably lower, it seems much better to me.

From PC Gamer's review:

The central story is a big improvement on the dad-quest of Fallout 3. You're following the trail of the man who shot you, as it snakes across the Mojave through the major urban areas, drip-feeding you tasks that vary from sorting out a town's escaped prisoner problem to a ghoul infestation with a brilliantly overthe- top ending. Scenarios and characters that I'm loath to go into detail over, as their tricky little problems should be experienced first-hand. Twisty moral conundrums are laid at your feet as you pick and choose who to piss off (and you'll always piss someone off). When a game asks you to lead someone into a sniper's line of fire, but doesn't specify who, you definitely have to confront your id.

The factions are interesting, particularly the Caesars: a vast army with nasty predilections, based on the Roman Empire. They crucify people, for Jupiter's sake. Even the lesser factions, like the Elvis-impersonating Kings or the mafia-inspired Omerta, have been teased out of Vegas tropes.

This is something Fallout 3 failed at. Bethesda tried to put me in a moral conundrum with the Megaton quest, for example, but in true Bethesda fashion, they forgot to make me give a damn about Megaton or anyone in it. So the only real conundrum was - do I want to see a nuclear blast or not?

I also love the factions descriptions. I never really got a feeling anything actually happens in the Capital Wasteland. Besides, the slavers and raiders were pretty boring.

Damn!!

Was kinda hoping this game would receive average reviews, still playing the hell out of Reach, and Fable 3 is out soon too. Now I'll HAVE to get this and lose myself in this game as well

... and of course GT5 is coming ...

...and Zelda:Rising Sword ...

some positive ones coming through

I'll post some different verdicts

"Everything we loved about Fallout 3, and much more. New Vegas improves on the original in almost every way" 5 stars

"Fallout: New Vegas somehow manages to have even more technical problems than Fallout 3 did, but its great characters and setting still shine through."

"Have you played Fallout 3? If so, then you've played Fallout: New Vegas"

Planet Xbox360 - 8.8/10

Eurogamer - 90/100

Xbox Magazine UK - 90/100

G4TV - 4/5

Filefront: 91/100

Joystiq - 3.5/5

Computerandvideogames.com - 8.1/10

The main cons reviews go with is the

Dated graphics
* Pathing and collision issues
* Horrific loading times

I think this says it all

"If you loved Fallout 3, you're going to love this. If you hated it or weren't interested enough to give it a shot, you're going to be more confused than ever what all the fuss is about."

soren008

All the reviews are saying the same thing really, dated graphics, bad loading times and bugs galore, I'm cool with it I guess, but like you just said if you hated FO3 you should stay clear of this game.

I really liked Fallout 3....all 110+ hours I spent playing it. I enjoyed all of the DLC, too. That said, I feel liked I've learned my lesson the first time around. $60 + $10 for each DLC = $110...when I could have and should have waited for the eventual GOTY edition for nearly half the price I paid. I'll be waiting for it this time, and if it doesn't end up coming I'll just pick up the game sometime late next year for $20 or $30 instead.

It amazes me how a game can have so many technical problems, bugs, and be in an unfinished state and yet still get 9s.

ASK_Story

Perhaps that just goes to show how good Obsidian are at writing/roleplaying design?

I don't know - I'm surprised that it got 9s myself, although I expected a really good RPG regardless of the scores.

Judging by fallout 3 and the fact that this looks more of the same, i would say you are safer with a weak rig than with a great one. That is because fallout 3 always had quad core issues and issues with new cards and drivers. So suprisingly the framerate was more "stable" with older rigs.

It amazes me how a game can have so many technical problems, bugs, and be in an unfinished state and yet still get 9s.

Strange because I feel the opposite in gaming. I often wonder how cookie cutter, short, linear games get high scores when they play it safe. There's only a handful of developers that make 100+ hours, open ended games and all of them have bugs. When a developer finally creates a perfect polished version of one of these games then i guess it's time to move onto bigger and better things.

Depends how you see it. Cod is very linear but is very polished. No one can say that that is because of the simplicity and linearity of the game. But that one has not played moh. Because moh is EVEN more simplistic and linear than cod, yet its cripted events are FILLED with bugs to a point that the simple and linear excuse does not hold. Anyway, point is, after that i learned how to apreciatted polished games despite being or nor bein simple and linear.

Beth really should enlarge their testing team. They make such huge games but it seems that a.) Their testing team is small b.) everything is finished during the last month.

Planeforger

New Vegas isn't made by Bethesda.

But anyway, it's great to hear that bugs are the main complaint about NV. They'll be patched/modded out fairly quickly, leaving us with a bunch of awesome RPG-goodness.

You'd be a fool to think this game isn't at least 70% Bethesda and that at least 90% of the bugs/issues with the game aren't down to the game using their tech.So what we have is a company fully aware of putting out a flawed product whilst also being fully aware it'll sell huge amounts and garner alot of good press regardless. So yes both Bethesda and Obsidians teams should've tested it and unless their completly clueless how about starting with the well established stability problems weve had since Oblivion.

I don't think the game comes here to the UK until Friday. That said, I haven't decided which version to buy; PC or X360. I really want to get the PC version because of the mod community. Does anyone know the proper PC requirement specs?

My worries about the game are gone from the reviews and impressions I've read. I can deal with bugs and whatnot. This sounds like, at its core, it is a better game than Fallout 3, which means it will likely devour my soul until sometime around next Spring.:)rragnaar

I can confirm it is better at its core than fallout by quite a bit actually :)
