I'll start with the most famous cheat code of all time...nick named the "Konami Code" ↑, ↑, ↓, ↓, ←, →, ←, →, B, A, start, select This little badboy will grant you 30 lives one of NES's grand titles "Contra" and to be completely honest I've never beat this game without "The Code"
My fav of all time that I have memorised sonic 2 go to sound test and play sounds 19, 65, 09, 17 press start then when tails appears press A start such a random thing to remember lol
In the NES TMNT II - at the title screen, quickly press B, A, B, A, Up, Down, B, A, Left, Right, B, A, Start before the demo starts to get a level select and 10 guys. Hit select, then Start for a 2-player game.
Turn around three times, step left right left back forward then jump with a 180* turn and poof, next level or all weapons depending if you jump forward or backwards.
Obviously as you stated, the Konami Code. It was used in just about every Konami classic and featured as a sort of Easter-egg in later games, such as use in, I think, Vice City, with slight alterations. Another I've seen which Turok players know, "Bewareoblivionisathand".
the games i really care about for cheats are perfect dark, goldeneye, gta series, need for speed ps1 only, lion king level cheat, and vigilante 8 series
I remeber the random codes to spell things out in DKC games. Like Down, Y, Down, Down, Y, to spell Diddy's name (with a Y instead) and stuff like that. I never really used codes often. Wasn't there one for Super Metroid to play as Samus without the suit or soemthing. I can't remeber if that was real or just some old magazine joke.

One which I came across repeatedly years ago was when The New Zealand Story was doing the rounds on the Amiga 500, Atari ST etc. Apparently, typing in FLUFFYKIWIS would net you 99 lives. Or was it infinite lives? I'm dredging this up from the depths of gaming memory, so to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the cheat never existed at all :)
There was apparently a, well, ruder version of this cheat but I'm pretty sure that was pure myth.
"The Wild Thing 2000" bike for Road Rash II : Set password to : 00DA 1V0N (zeros not the letter "o")
Madden 95: press A A CC BB at the title screen to unlock 1 minute quarters
or
to unlock Jacksonville Jaguars or the Carolina Panthers (both teams were not officially in a game til '96) press B, A, C, A, C. This code is awesome because either team is rated 99 in Nearly EVERY position. I've put up some crazy scores over the years, its also a good joke to play on somebody that thinks All Madden is better than Carolina in this game.... lol
