Link.

Far Cry Classic will launch on February 11 in North America, Ubisoft announced. The HD revamp of the Crytek-developed original will be available on Xbox Live and PSN for $10 one day before it lands on Xbox 360 and PS3 in Europe.

Far Cry first launched on PC in May 2004, and had players assuming the role of Jack Carver, a captain being pursued by a team of "highly trained mercenaries." The open world FPS was set on a South Pacific archipelago with a variety of environments ranging from rain forests to canyons. Ubisoft says Far Cry Classic will include "revamped cut scenes" as well as a new user interface.

I absolutely hated FarCry on the original Xbox and Xbox 360. But I'm told pretty frequently that wasn't the "real" FarCry. If our resident FarCry nuts could clarify what the differences is, I'd love to have a reason to check this out.

I had a copy of the original Far Cry gifted to me on Steam a couple years back. Should really get around to downloading it one of these days. Hear good things.

Apparently there are a few off shoot games with some kind of subtitle or something while the original game is literally just called Far Cry. IDK I've only ever played 3.

@turtlethetaffer: Yeah, FarCry on the Xbox's had feral powers or something like that. That didn't bother me. What bothered me was the completely broken stealth mechanic and the busted enemy AI. You alert an enemy, an alarm sounds, you kill him and hide. A bunch of enemies come around the bend and immediately know exactly where you are. It made no sense to me.

Uh, yeah. The original PC version in 2004 came in 5 CDs. It sucked having to play the game with the Play Disc in the CD drive though.

@jun_aka_pekto: If it came in one of those old "big boxes" PC games came in before the advent of Steam, you'd likely have a mildly cool collectors item on your hands there.

I don't think mine came with a box though. I think within a year of release, Ubisoft ditched the box in favor of the multiCD jewelry case which is the one I have.

As far as possible collector items..... I have Wing Commander 4 (1995) which came in 6 CDs. But, I lost the box for that one.

Yep, same price on consoles too when it arrives. thought they would charge more for it, that's a good deal for a full game, even an old one.

The original Far Cry is a great game, it's also the first CryEngine title as far as I know. The console version 'Far Cry Instincts', isn't the same game, and is pretty awful by comparison.

Far Cry is a much more open game, with you pretty much given the whole run of the island fairly early on, with lots of choice in how you tackle objectives (and no ridiculous feral powers) and traverse the island. It's not a bad looking game even by today's standards so I'll be interested to see just how much they've tidied it up.

I have Far Cry installed on an older PC: 2.8ghz Phenom II X3 720BE (unlocked 4th core) with Radeon 5770, Vista 32-bit. The graphics are decidely dated. Playing at the hardest setting, I see the same X-ray eyes mentioned earlier. So, I'm replaying it on Easy.

10 years later, people are still complaining that it's "too hard"?

Far Cry was great. Instincts happened because the Xbox and PS2 couldn't possibly get a proper port, due to hardware limitations.

So what's this game like? Is it more like Crysis 1 (obviously no nano suit) or open world like FC3?

It' looks interesting.

I'm fairly interested, though I've been underwhelmed by classic remakes or re-releases before like the original Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and Killzone HD. I guess I'm too used to the way games are now. I don't care too much about graphics, but these older games (that I don't have a lot of experience with playing) tend to have outdated gameplay mechanics that interfere with the enjoyment. For $10, I think i'll give this a chance. And then I may finally try to play Far Cry 2 again. And for the record, I really enjoyed Far Cry 3.

I enjoyed Far Cry until those stupid mutant things turned up. Outwitting relatively smart AI soliders in a dense jungle was much more fun.

Crytek enjoyes doing that, apparently.

You can switch "Far Cry" with "Crysis" and "mutant" with "aliens" and the statement remains the same.

WHAT?? are you kidding? I LOVED the Multiplayer in Far Cry Instincts! I had a blast back in the day.

Edit: whoops. It's the classic one that was on PC. I did not play this one. Was it with the feral predator thing, though? Will it have Multiplayer? Oh how I miss playing Predator mode...

Looks like it just launched for Xbox 360 with a PS3 version going up tomorrow, it's £7.99 on Xbox Live here in the UK

There's no sign of a standalone PC version, though the "Wild Expedition" compilation is due on the 21st of February which will include it.

It looks like they've tidied it up quite a bit, the trailer says they've updated the mechanics too not just the visuals, but what exactly they've changed is anyone's guess

ehhh, might've got it if it had been bundled with Instincts and Predator HD versions as well as Instincts was easily better game than original. Original was frustating as hell specially in last dam scene.

If it's anything like 3 it will be good.

Debating on getting this or Fable anniversary.

My first impressions on FarCry Classic (demo is out on Xbox 360):

They changed more than I thought they would, some for the best, some not so much. First off, two great things: they added proper aiming down the sights instead of just zooming in like it originally was. They also removed the stupid idea of the knife as a separate weapon and just mapped it to a melee attack on R3 like in FarCry 3, CoD, Battlefield and most modern shooters. As for the rest, the game plays and feels exactly like the original, even down to the x-ray vision AI and the floating weapons dropped by the enemies, the only exception being a derpy waypoint telling you where to go because apparently we've all become idiots since 2004.

Here's my problem with this port: I don't know whether it's a bug or a demo limitation, but I couldn't pick up any weapon dropped by the enemies. I managed to pick up a sniper rifle which was lying on a table, but none of the guns the enemies dropped. It's either a bug or they added a 2-weapons limit, which would suck big time since it would cut stealth even more out of the picture. Can anyone confirm or deny this thing? @Randolph ?
