So what is your favorite controller of all time?
In terms of comfort, the PS4 controller is my favorite. With the GameCube controller at a super close second.
X360 was until the X1 was born. :)
Yeah same... X1 is easily the most comfortable for me.
Honourable mention to the Gamecube controller too.
The Xbox One is my all-time favourite controller. I love the weight and feel of it, it's contoured very nicely. The asymetrical layout of the analog sticks feels very natural to me.
Gamecube for me, i havnt used Wii U Pro Controller yet, so cant speak on it, but i plan on buying a White One.
Wired 360 controller. Maybe Xbox one will change that.
In terms of pure comfort, it's the gamecube pad though.
Doubt anyone will say the original xbox. That thing was hell on my tiny hands.
I didn't think the original fat one was all that bad... the slimmer one was definitely better but yeah, I still used the old one too. My hands are quite big so that's probably why it didn't bother me.
even that i'm more of a Sony-guy when it comes to consoles, i have to say that i like X360/X1 controllers more. using X360 controller for PC games that i play with gamepad.
Sony's controllers are ultimately very similiar, so there's no game-changing differences though.
The most comfortable controller for me is the 360 controller. I have large sized hands and I've never been uncomfortable using the controller. The trigger buttons are very ergonomic, more so than the PS2 or PS3's, and the sticks placed further apart giving my thumbs no chance to collide like the Playstation's while the buttons are rounded and take less to press unlike the flat buttons.
Just a superb controller for people with bigger hands. Most people have average sized hands, so I can understand why it's not everyone's favorite.
For playing an all nighter session of videogames. The Xbox 360 controller is the best.
It's a good controller, i prefer the PS4 one though
Xbone, the 360's d-pad is almost unusable which is unacceptable for those of us who love to use it for 2d action/platformers and fighters.

I loved the size of the original Xbox controller. It fit so perfectly in my hands and was the first thing that made me interested in getting a Xbox. When I first held it at the store, I was like "Finally, someone made a controller for people with big hands!". The button layout was terrible though, so I prefer the later Xbox controllers since they fixed the button layout.

Yeah the button layout was definitely pretty bad... but it was comfy I thought.
psx,ps2,ps3 these are the best controllers. Small size and responsive accurate d-pad. xbox is alright for shooters but its size and d-pad is just terrible.
That's a complex question because it depends on the type of game. Overall the 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 controllers all feel pretty comparable but the 360 controller is most natural to me because it's what I've used for all PC games I play with controller (native support).
For "arcade sticks" the original SFIV Tournament Edition stick (not counting the custom stick I built for my arcade machine, which is my real favorite). It uses an octagonal gate which I'm not big on but it's grown on me.
Driving - My Logitech G27 Force Feedback wheel with sequential shifter and clutch pedal.
HOTAS - My Saitek X52 Pro. I know it's not the highest quality flightstick but it's the best one I've ever used.
Joystick - Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2. Solid base and great force feedback.
Coolest controller? Toss up between the Gravis Phoenix:
If I remember, it was a 24 button programmable joystick (which was pretty uncommon back then). The left hand portion is a throttle that slides in and out and you can twist the end of it for an additional X axis. I used to play Mechwarrior with this and I used the left X axis for torso rotation. This was my "Steel Battalion" before SB was a thing.
The other is the Logitech Cyberman 2:
This was so freakin' kewl. It looked like a hockey puck attached to a lima bean, but it was a true 3D controller. The hockey puck on the right was the joystick and it could be moved in pretty much any direction. Every axis worked. You could shove it forward, back, left and right. Tilt it forward, back left and right. Twist it clockwise or counterclockwise or pull it straight up or push it straight down. For games like Descent and Forsaken, this was the ultimate controller because it let you move/twist/turn in any direction in 3D space. Imagine the standard "strafe left or right and fire while tracking your target" tactic you use in almost every FPS title ever, but doing that in -any- direction in 3D. There were a few other 3D controllers out at the time that technically did the same thing, but this one was much more accurate and was just intuative to control.
Quality was pretty low, though. The puck would break after a lot of use. I went through like three of them.
