Mine would have to be Alisia Dragon. In my opinion it truly was an epic action/adventure game that kinda went under the radar both in Japan, and in North America due to minimal exposure and marketing from Sega.

My personal favorite has always been Master of Monsters. I also enjoyed General Chaos and ToeJam & Earl, though I don't know whether they were particularly popular or not outside of my personal experience when I was 12.

Not sure about the first two you mentioned, but I do know that Toe Jam and Earl actually went on to become a rather popular game in the early 90's, as did its sequel.

I liked a platformer called Rolo the Elephant, don't think it was a huge name but I recall it being a solid platformer.

Oh, I'm well aware that Master of Monsters was not a popular game. :P

I was more wondering whether TJ&E had become a household name sort of game.

Ristar. I know it's more well known now, but not so much when it was actually new on store shelves. Most gamers were already moving on to Playstation, Saturn, and 3DO & Jaguar by then (still a little before N64, I think). And it's a shame, because it is one of the greatest Platformers on the Genesis, or during the whole 16-bit era. I'd say only the Sonic Genesis games and Super Mario World were better platformers for the 16-bit era.

Jurassic Park Rampage Edition.

This seems to be overshadowed by it's prequel on the Sega Genesis. But it needs more love. While the gameplay has more of a shooter feel, the controls are tightened up and it has some cool moments, like escaping the sinking boat, riding a Gallaminus, and outrunning the T-Rex on a raft. (Pictured above)

Castlevania Bloodlines

This was overshadowed by Castlevania IV, but it's still an excellent game. Great music with great looking levels.

It's always been one of my guilty pleasures one the Genesis; terrible translation and all.

Btw, it's actually Alisia Dragoon.

Anyways, I liked Quackshot as well, also Puggsy was great. Light Crusader and Landstalker were also few of my favourites, don't know how less known those are though.

Eternal Champions (its a fighting game)LP4EVA2005

Eternal Champions was actually a heavily marketed game by Sega that I believe did pretty well in terms of sales.. It was supposed to be the Genesis' big 1st party developed fighting game. I personally wasn't crazy abuot it at all though.

Also, add Thunder Force 2 to my list :)

Then they probably never went to the arcades because Gain Ground was a big hit.

I know GG was quite popular but I never found the arcade game where I lived back then.

I was a Genesis owner, and a hardcore Sega fanboy in general, and not even I knew about Flicky until a couple of years ago when I bought the Genesis Collection disc for the PS2.

Add this game to my list as well:

Underrated? All the RPG nerds talk up the Phantasy Star games as much as they talk up the Final Fantasy games. Hardly underrated.

The first game that popped into my mind was Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. Great game, but I'm fairly sure it flew under the radar. Anyone else remember it?

I rather enjoyed Splatterhouse 3 It was ahead of it's time by having your skills and how long you took affect the storyline.

They're less popular than, say, Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The Genesis owners I've talked with never mentioned Phantasy Star much, but that's just my experience.

Same here. I have a copy and was actually playing it not too long ago. The game is definitely still very challenging as well!
