Some of mine are:

Castlevania: Bloodlines - not quite the best Castlevania but it's pretty good.

Humans - I'm not a big fan of puzzle games but I always liked this one.

Virtual Pinball - Fun pinball action, plus being able to create my own tables was awesome.

Warsong - Nice SRPG, I wish more Langrisser games were localized.

Wiz n' Liz - Running around collecting rabbits can be quite fun.

Part of my reason for creating this thread is that I kinda feel like playing my Genesis again and wouldn't mind a new game or two to play, even though I already have a backlog on other platforms.

Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine. I'm pretty sure that was a 3rd party company that developed it.

There are a ton of good ones, check Game Room for 'genesis' reviews, the man doing the reviews is a Genesis fan and he knows a lot.

soo many to name... so I'll reduce the list to 10

Castlevania bloodlines
Contra: Hard corps
Alisia Dragoon
Ranger X
Shadowrun
Rocket Knight Adventures
Dune 2
Truxton
Megaman: Willy wars
Gynoug (Wings of Wor in the US)

not to start a war, but in my opinion Castelvania Bloodlines and Contra: Hardcorps are better then Super Castlevania 4 and Contra 3 for the SNES.

However, the european version of these two genesis games leaves something to be desired, I'd advise getting the US version (or in Contra: Hardcorps case) the Japanese version

I agree with you on Bloodlines. Though I haven't played Super Castlevania in a looooong time, so I might change my mind if I were to play it again. I like Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night a bit more though.

Oh, and thaks for reminding me of Shadowrun. I've intended to try that and kinda forgot about it.

That looks interesting. I might grab if it only I can find it cheap since I don't need another strategy game right now. I haven't the played the one in your sig nearly enough yet. :P

Sega Tech Institute to be precise. quite a capable dev team , although their history is rather short (as far as I remember they were basically disbanded in 1997)

  • Cool Spot - A great platformer with some impressive graphics for the time. And the whole thing is nothing more than a giant ad for 7-Up which makes it even more impressive.
  • The Death & Return of Superman - Great beat-em up game for Sega Genesis and quite possibly the ONLY good Superman game not counting the never-ported Superman arcade game. Based off the comic storyline (Doomsday & The Reign of The Supermen).
  • Maximum Carnage (Spider-Man & Venom) - Great beat-em game based off the comic story of the same name.
  • The Punisher - Very fun arcade port of a beat-em up based on the comic character where environments are destructible and there are weapons everywhere to use.
  • Raiden Trad - I love shoot-em ups, and this one is the most nostalgic of them for me on Genesis.
  • Road Rash 1-3 - Great series of motorcycle racing games. The best part of the games being the fact that you could beat the crap out of your fellow racers with clubs and crowbars!
  • Separation Anxiety (Spider-Man & Venom) - Great beat-em game based off the comic story of the same name.
  • Super Street Fighter II - The best version of Street Fighter II available on Sega Genesis.
  • X-Men 2: The Clone Wars - One of the reasons to own a Sega Genesis, seriously. This game really shines on Genesis.

I thought the Superman game published by Sunsoft wasn't bad, but yeah, that one is definitely better.

And it's been ages since I played X-Men 2, I might pick that up. I'm pretty sure it's cheap.

while most of that list is actually decent (Cool Spot in particular is a good game, though I played it on PC , not MD) , Xmen 2 is actually a 1 st party game of sorts, it was published by Sega and made by a different developer (in some ways you could call it 2nd party)

also SSF2 MD , while a good game, is not the version of SSF2 I would recommend . Id personally recommend the version that came with the SF collection on the PS1/SAT, since it came with SSF2T and Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, not to mention both SSF2 and SSF2T are arcade perfect, the MD version is not, not even that close tbh.

The game is at its best if you have another human to play against as the AI is only moderately intelligent.

And for anyone wondering, the game in my sig is actually Master of Orion, which is a PC title from the early 90's. Brilliant game though.

The only one that comes to mind that I know wasn't 1st party is "Sub-Terrania." Sadly, I can't remember most of the Genesis games I played.

Edit: Zero Tolerance! It blew my mind at the time, though looking back, it was remarkably repetitive.

Actually there was never a arcade perfect port of SSFT2T. That's why the competitive scene uses the arcade cabinet still, or an emulation of the arcade board. But yes that would still probably be the best bet for playing the SSF2 games.

I did say that Super Street Fighter II is the best version of Street Fighter II FOR GENESIS.

This game was my addiction

LP4EVA2005

I own the SNES version of this. And I find it to be nearly unplayable. The hit detection is horrible, and the difficulty of it coupled with the poor hit detection can make for some frustrating gameplay. After a few minutes of it, I usually just pop in a better beat-em up like Maximum Carnage or X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse.

people play SSF2T in competitions? I always thought of the Alpha series or SF3 as the more competitive

I played both versions and I remember I had more fun with the genesis version despite the SNES having better graphics, sound and cutscenes. I remember there was something about it that was just... off in the SNES version but I couldn't put my finger on it, maybe that was it

I'll warn you, it hasn't aged well. When it came out, it was fantastic. That's because the NES and Atari 2600 games before it stunk to high heaven in comparison. But after it we got great Spider-Man games like the PS1 games, the last-gen games based off the movies, the last couple of current-gen games were great, and even the beat-em ups also on Genesis: Maximum Carnage & Separation Anxiety were better. So it was awesome then, but now it makes you just want to put in a better Spider-Man game.

I'm pretty sure I rented it way back and didn't like it near as much as Maximum Carnage or War of the Gems. It's only 3 bucks though so I still might grab it.

I'd go with Lost Vikings, Mercs, and Battletech.
