Alright, heres how it's going to go:

Underrated Open Worlds first (whichever gets to 15 votes first wins)

Then RPG/FPS open world games (same rules apply)

Then "the big dogs" (15 etc.)

Then the three winners face off.

It should be pretty fun!

Oh and it's all this gen.

Also, when I say underrated, I mean not as universally loved. It doesn't mean I think that all these are great.

EDIT: It's going somewhat slow, so I'm going to decrease the winning number to 10.

EDIT 2: Infamous 1/2 wins the first round! Next up we vote on RPGS

I'm surprised to see L.A. Noire there, that game was brilliant and quite popular. Just Cause 2 should be on the list, what that game accomplished within its massive open world was really something special.

As am I. It also received quite high ratings and praise, so I wouldn't say it's under-rated.

I also have to agree about Just Cause 2, that game was jam-packed with stuff to do, which is hard for a game as big as it is.

Yeah the amount of stuff to do was blindblowing, and it also has one of the best draw distances I've ever seen in a game. Usually you get object pop-in within a big open world setting, but in Just Cause 2, if you were at the top of a mountain, the desert and city areas were as clear as ever. Really impressive.

From those choices, it's definitely the Infamous games for me. Mafia 2 was a great game though, I look forward to a sequel. L.A. Noire is also up there for me, great game. Havn't played Prototype, but I played the second one and it was fun. Godfather 2 stands out because it's definitely not good enough to be compared to those other games, and I probably would have put something like Just Cause 2 up there, even though I havn't played that one.

First of all, it was from THIS GEN. I said that.

Second of all, if you read the opening post, you would know these are the underrated/ not as popular games this round.

I will tell the choices for the next round now, but the next round won't go until one of the currents gets 15 votes.

RPG/FPS:

Fallout 3

Fallout New Vegas

Skyrim

Borderlands

Oblivion

"The big dogs":

Assassins Creed 2

Gta 4

RDR

Just Cause 2

Saints Row 2/3

After one of the current options gets 14, the RPG/FPS round will commence.

I've got so many good memories with Just Cause 2, man - I remember spending 50 hours just trying to find all of the hidden secrets and finding the coolest points in the game. I also remember flying in a car behind a plane.

The draw distance really added a lot to the game, just being able to see everything made the world feel so huge and strikingly beautiful. Truly one of the best sandbox games out there. inFAMOUS gets my vote, easily the best super-hero sandbox series there currently is. The first one plays out as an amazing origin story and build up for the real deal while the second one offers a magnificent conclusion to the series, all the while giving you some of the most awesome super powers to mess around with (you can bring thunder down on your enemies only to send them flying with a vortex afterwards, where else in a game can you do that?). The second one also has a fantastic set of tools which gives you a ton of flexibility to create whatever you want, whether its a simple comic with its cutscene maker or a platforming level or even a fully working aircraft. I'm still playing the game just because of that.

I absolutly hate Infamous, but how is that game underated? I'd say more over rated. Now the Godfather 2 I think is very underrated, also one thats not on here The Saboteur, very good game.

L.A. Noire great game - not underrated

Infamous - not underrated

what are your credentials for picking what underrated games are for the poll? their are real underrated games that should be on their insted over the correclty or overrated ones.

The Saboteur and Just Cause 2 should be on there.

It definitely does deserve more attention, especially for its great story and characters. As an open world game it was severely lacking though, I really liked a few of the small things they added like being able to freely stop by a bar to have a few drinks or refilling your car at the gas station but ultimately there was very, very little to do in the game's beautifully detailed city. Still a great game though.

Shouldn't the thread title be called 'favorite underrated open world game POLL' so it matches the poll title. Anyway, I don't think the Infamous games and L.A. Noire shouldn't be on this list as they mainly recieved 9/10 scores. Mafia II is definatley the most underrated game on this list and it is the most underrated game this generation, it's not really an open world game though and that is why critics bashed it, if it was an open world game then critics still would have bashed it because it would have been an open world game with cars and guns set in a city that isn't called Grand Theft Auto. Prototype is a very underrated game, it was bashed for being repetitive, but for a game of that type, it had loads of variety. Godfather II is an underrated game, many critics bashed it for having bugs, I have one thing to say about that: SKYRIM, 10/10, EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN'T WORK, F*CK LOGIC!!!!!!!. Just Cause 2 and Saints Row 2/3 should be on this list, they are underrated for the usual reasons when it comes to open world games of that type, they are the most fun games this generation (for anyone who does not know what fun means: Activities that are enjoyable or amusing; "I do it for the fun of it"; "he is fun to have around") yet game critics would still rather nominate dull game like Mass Effect 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 with only 4 hours of gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=864WK54tCLk) for Game of the Year.

Hmm, changed the poll. Well, Fallout 3 is definitely my answer to this one, as it truly is my favorite open world RPG, and probably my favorite game in general. All are awesome games, though I havn't played Oblivion.

Yeah, I changed the poll because it's a new round- the first was less/under appreciated, this is RPG/FPS.

There's honestly not enough variety, both Fallout 3\NV and the two Elder Scrolls games feel a bit too much the same to have in one poll. The Gothic series gets my vote anyway, its pretty hardcore and it takes a lot of time and patience to actually achieve something (like really, 10 hours in Gothic 2 and I still get mauled by wolves) but its easily one of the most rewarding, most fun open world RPGs out there when you actually get over that initial obstacle and finally grow strong enough to handle yourself.
