Tell me which you prefer Final Fantasy 7 or 8. I prefer 7 the story is so great, plus I'm not a big fan of the draw system in 8.

i enjoyed vii a lot and i think viii suffered from being the follow up to such a popular game. i seem to remember the junction system in viii was completely baffling to me which meant i never actual finished the game. but there were some great set pieces in the game. i might actually try going back to viii to see if i understand it all a little better now that i'm older
I enjoyed FFVIII more but I did find the materia system in FFVII far better than the junction system in FFVIII. The junction system made the game far to easy after disc 2.

I have to agree, though I really enjoyed VIII and ever since they released as a PSone Classic I have been playing through it again. I did hate the draw system though, it just made magic a huge pain.
everything about 8 was a huge disappointment. Still my least favorite title they've ever made with Final Fantasy in front of it. Doesn't help your putting it up against one of the best games of all time tho, really..fastr
In my opinion X, XII and XIII were a lot worse than VIII.
VI>VII>VIII>IX>IV>X>V>XII>XIII>II>I>III
FFIII it's the worst FF ever. And VIII it's my personal favorite because of the Junction System (the customization was insane!), graphics are the best, music was pretty good and the story was actually better than the one on VII and the Materia System was way too straight forward and simple. The Sphere Grid of X was great too, you just could jump from magic to attack or whatever.
But the best story of all FF games and the best game in general was FFVI. You just can't argue with that. A remake of that game would put every Jrpg on existence to shame, including Xenogear's story or whatever other game you think it has a good story.
Not to sound cliche but FF7 was a much better game. Although FF8 was amazing (as every FF game from IV on out) it was too flawed to match up with the total awesomeness that was FF7.

i agree completely with what you wrote. i love both games but final fantasy 7 is a much, much better game imo. i've played through the game atleast 15 times and i could start a new game right now and be instantly hooked. its my favorite game of all time.
final fantasy 8 is still a great game though, very similar to 7. the story and gameplay (mainly the battle system) just weren't as strong. the card game is easily my favorite part of the game..last time i played through it i spent the majority of my gameplay time playing the card game lol.
I enjoyed them both. And I chose taht option.
Now I do think VII is better, but I had to give love to VIII.
They are both fantastic games.
its a tough choice. As far as which i have the most fond memories of, I'd have to go with VIII. VII did a LOT of things better than VIII, however. The story in 7 was more epic and the materia system was loads better than the junction system. But I just loved the ensemble cast in FFVIII as each playable character was very memorable, something that I can't honestly say for VII. Aside from Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith, the other playable characters weren't very memorable.
FF7 is overrated :|
and i beat the game twice.
FF8 had a much deeper storyline than 7 and also had a much more memorable ending.
Though, gameplay wise goes to FF7 for its many different side-games and all.
but FF8 had a great ultimate power system (forgot what it was called) than 7 (Leonhart anyone?)
Final Fantasy VIII is terrible
Final Fantasy VII is extremely overrated
Final Fantasy IX is better than both
Was this thread created so the FF7 fanbois could come and dump their hate on FF8? Well, I thought FF6 was better than FF7.KhanhAgE...? I made this cuz I was curious which one people like more. And obviously you like 6 more it was best the in series. I choose ffviii and ffvii cuz they were both for the same console.

And yet you left out FFIX, which is also for the same console... :?
Not that it matters to me, though. I thought FFIX was the weakest of the three PS FFs. My vote goes to FFVIII. I like the junction system.
And IMHO FFVI isn't anywhere near the best in the series.

I dunno, that's like trying to compare two beautiful women, one with blonde hair, the other a brunette. Both are awesome.
If I had to carefully consider and comapre everything though, my top 5 FF list looks like this:
5. FFIX
4. FFVII
3. FFVIII
2. FFX
1. FFVI
So VIII very slightly, but I got so much enjoyment from every FF, especially those 5.
I like 7 way better. As a matter of fact I don't like part 8 at all.I think part 8 is one of the worst games ever made and one of the most over rated games of all time.
Heres what I think of part 8!

and thats all I have too say about that.
What I praise FFVIII for mostly is how progressive it was for the series. I felt that it was in many ways, what FFVII should have been. The gameplay of FFVIII made it the most exciting FF game since VI. Sadly, this progression of the series was short lived due to fan backlash. The purists always fear change. What we got was the ultra-conservative IX, and the stale gameplay would live on until XII.QuistisTrepe_
I'm not starting a arguement or at least not a personal one.I have to say though that the gameplay on part 8 was horrid. The draw system was horrid cause it took so long and the summons were horrid cause they cause they also took up way to much game time.If you cut the time from those two thing out of the game then part 8 isnot so epic any more.Watching the same summon animations over and over still gives me nightmares!

What's the difference between the Draw system and any other variety of fetch quests or level grinding? :? FFVII's gameplay was decidedly boring, IMO. In fact, I think it was a step backwards from VI.[QUOTE="fubbal"][QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"]What I praise FFVIII for mostly is how progressive it was for the series. In fact, I think it was a step backwards from VI.Because the draw system is incredibly boring. At least with level grinding, their is some fun to it. Also, the overall junction system was unbalanced making the charaters either too weak or too strong. The summons after a while were annoying and can't be skipped. Just because a game tries something different doesn't mena it automatically gets a pass for being the best. Yeah FFIX was conservative but it was a far more enjoyable experience then VIII. Even VII, which is overpraised by the fanbase and also has not aged that well is still a more enjoyable experience.
And that's just some of the reasons why I did not like FFVIII.

We'll have to disagree then. I have no desire to pickup cliche ridden mediocrity like FFVII ever again. FFVIII outclasses it in every way.[QUOTE="Seabas989"][QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"] What's the difference between the Draw system and any other variety of fetch quests or level grinding? :? However, I did play a little bit of XIII and I enjoyed it a lot.
As for VIII well lets just say that it's about the only jrpg that I didn't care much to finish it. I stopped at the beginning of disk 4.

Yeah VIII avoids all cliches.
I must have just been me imagining things when I played VIII. "Team up, save the world, and learn about your mysterious past " is what I found. But obviously it's wrong since FF VIII avoids cliches.

If you're going to troll, at least accurately quote what I actually posted. I never asserted that VIII doesn't fall prey to cliches. It couldn't very well be a FF game if it weren't steeped in JRPG conventions. FFVII just gets obnoxious in this regard.
