I await a delay for the EU version, it always happens, I hope it wont but......Cheers for the updated. Given FXIII track record regarding release dates I await a delay.

Great! Add yet another game to March 2010. It's really quite amazing how many idiots are running the gaming industry.
March now has GT5, GOW3, BF2, FFXIII and couple more I cant remember.
I'm sure that will change as we get closer. I'm guessing GOW 3 still gets a March date, and GT5 will come sometime later in 2010 in the states and Europe.Great! Add yet another game to March 2010. It's really quite amazing how many idiots are running the gaming industry.

Not idiots, financial people. Most companies have their fiscal years start on April 1. It would take a bit to explain the specifics of why it matters if you don't have an economics background, but releasing a game in late March versus early April can have a huge impact on a company's stock value.

Ok that makes more sense.
But it is going to cost them sales, that's for sure.
Awesome! Finally the game will soon be out. My birthday is at the end of March but I'm sure not going to wait until then to get it so I'll likely grab it myself as an early gift to me. :P

Heavy Rain and Dante's Inferno are going to hit in that timeframe as well.
I'll buy no more than a half-dozen games, but FF13 is sure to be among them. I've been extremely happy with the mainline FF games bar FF9 and FF13's battle system looks very interesting (and the continued absence of random battles is welcome).
isn't mass effect 2 releasing early next year as well? i haven't been keeping up with the release dates...it looks like march will be my personal deadline for getting through my 6-7 game backlog, as i'm not sure i'll be able to handle buying another 4 games or so and adding it to the pile...
i'm also hoping GT5 gets pushed back, as forza 3 is taking over my life at the moment and i can't see myself stopping anytime soon...

That's why you don't buy everything at $60. By the time you get to said game it will cost less. Win

Yeah Mass Effect 2 is releasing Jan. 26th. They were showing off a bunch of it on GTTV on Spike last night and it looks awesome, can't wait for that one either.
That trailer they put out with it was so pretentious though... Then again, I sit in the camp that says Japanese RPGs peaked in the 90s with Chrono Trigger, so I'm a bit nuts!
I'm actually gonna give this game a try I think! I really think Square is going all-out with it. Even if I don't like it, it will at least be something interesting that I will want to play to find out I don't like instead of reading reviews.

True, FFVI and Chrono Trigger were the peak of the JRPG mountain. It all went downhill from there.Well, its true now, so you can still pretend its fake for all you want. That said, I am excited for it. I just hope its a better Final Fantasy than that very disappointing offline FFXI like game known as FFXII. I'll be reserving this baby.I'll believe it when I see it.

It may be true that Chrono Trigger peaked during the 90s and was the best SNES RPG to date; it still is the best SNES RPG and its also my favorite game of all time.
But I wouldn't say that JRPG went downhill completely. The Tales games are some of the best JRPGs that I have played in years, the last one being Tales Of Vesperia. I am hoping against hope that they will be releasing the PS3 version of Vesperia over here someday. I really hope they do.

I think FFVI is slightly better, but I do say that Chrono Trigger has better gameplay while FFVI has a better story. The only JRPGs I really like dthis decade are Lost Odyssey and Golden Sun I and II.[QUOTE="AtomicTangerine"]

The only JRPGs I really like dthis decade are Lost Odyssey and Golden Sun I and II. I'd like to think that both games have all the makings of a great RPG and not that many weaknesses attached to it. Final Fantasy VI was indeed amazing - its ranked as one of the best FFs done, in my honest opinion. But I'd like to think that Chrono Trigger is so much better than anything I've seen out there. A great story, great cast of characters, excellent gameplay, tons of replay value, and who can ever forget the soundtrack? Its a masterpiece, Chrono Trigger that is. Lost Odyssey lost interest in me (no pun intended) and I'm not really that familiar with the Golden Sun series all too well, so I wouldn't have an honest clue about them.[QUOTE="AtomicTangerine"]

You're not the only one who has the same thoughts on the video. That guy has an aura of douchey-ness surrounding him.
honestly, WRPGs are kicking JRPG ass in the console market and SE still acts like they are the best thing around. Seriously At least Bioware is not pretentious, their value is reflected in their games. They don't have to say anything.WOW at new trailer! A huge open world, riding chocobo's across the open plains, crazy fast paced combat!!! Now I am super excited, I thought this game would be another FFX, looks like I am wrong. dvader654More like FFX on steroids. Which is more than enough for me. I've been craving a big budget high production value JRPG since the day I bought my PS3. Games like Oblivion, Dragon Age, and Demon's Souls have provided me with some entertainment in the mean time, but I know my heart is in the JRPG sub genre. (I'll actually get Star Ocean 4: International the month before FFXIII, hope it's as good as it looks to me)
After watching the trailer, I'm really looking forward to this. Q1 of 2010 may end being the best Q1 ever for gaming.

I don't know how much of an event it will be at this point, but yeah, it will still be huge. The thing was... that trailer had a HOST! Imagine if Modern Warfare 2 hired a spokesperson and said that sort of stuff. At that point, I would say Infinity Ward either has massive ego issues or have literally gone insane.

Seriously At least Bioware is not pretentious, their value is reflected in their games. They don't have to say anything. While Squenix's ad campaign indicates it has a very high opinion of itself, Bioware's advertising indicates a very, very low opinion of gamers. Dragon Age had that pitiful Marilyn Manson trailer ('Look, we've got sex and gore. we're hardcore to the extreme dude!'). And then there was the hilarious 'Girls of Dragon Age' Maxim photoshoot. Its not only pandering to 13 year old boys, its out of touch because the trick in age of the internet is to avoid sexual content.
*Shrugs*Honestly, unless a company is doing something deeply unethical like trying to convince poor families to put ads on tombstones, ad campaigns don't drive my purchases.
What does drive my purchases is game quality, and Jade Empire and Mass Effect suffered from sloppy, poorly thought out gameplay/game design (real time combat is wonderful if one has the skill to pull it off, which Bioware apparently doesn't). Clearly there are people who don't mind slop, but I can't enjoy a game unless its fun to play. That being said, the PC version of DA looks like fun (it demands a high level of micromanagement because Bioware's attempt to ape the gambit system of FF12 failed but I like micromanagement).

FF11 isn't worthy of the name, but FF12 was a brilliant game which discarded some of the garbage that has marred past jrpgs (random encounters, I'm looking at you) and is better than any console wrpg this side of KOTOR.
*Shrugs* Whether or not FF is the biggest rpg franchise remains to be seen though, since a lot of people slurped up the sewage that is Mass Effect.

To be honest, I'm not completely sure about Mass Effect, but I've been avoiding it, mainly due to the fact that it is the type of RPG that doesn't really interest me - infuses gameplay mechanics and D&D rules, similiar to what Knights Of The Republic used. Tried playing KOTR and just lost interest immediately. I guess I'm used to playing JRPGs like Tales or Final Fantasy a lot more.[QUOTE="Metamania"]

Mass Effect is considered by many to be the RPG of the generation, Why? It has nothing to do with its shooting mechanics. Even fans think that ME has weak areas, planetary exploration, techinical issues, etc. But its strengths are nearly unmatched, storytelling, characters, voice acting, etc. It tells a better story, has more fleshed out and realistic characters, and has a more fleshed out world than almost all JRPGs. Its weak as an action, game, strong as an RPG, and its an RPG that it wants to be. Jade Empire is excellent as well. The combat may not be great, but it also tells an excellent story. We all agree that the marketing for Dragon Age was terrible, and I believe the marketing department of Bioware or EA admits to it. The later Dragon Age adverts are now as "hardcore" as the early ones. The marketing did not reflect the game at all.[QUOTE="Metamania"] To be honest, I'm not sure if FF is the biggest RPG franchise out there anymore. Its somewhat different from the D&D ruleset, but it does. It doesn't follow the Star Wars d20 fully, but incorproates many elements from it.
Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age do not follow a PnP rulset at all. And the general trend for WRPGs is to move away from PnP rulesets.
I don't appreicate being talked at and I turned the annoying guy off. I understand what they're doing; this trailer is trying to cater to older fans of the series that may have wandered away or have found the gameplay to have grown "stale." While it does appear to be on the cheesy side in the most recent trailer trailer (not this BS), the game is definitely shaping up to be the best in the series yet, especially gameplay wise.
Final Fantasy XIII and End of Eternity are the two most promising JRPG titles this gen.

I can respect that. There are people who found VIII to be the best FF or JRPG out there. But for me, it was an experiment that should not have happened in the first place. VIII, like all FFs (excluding IV and VI, as they are more universally praised and II, which is more looked at as the series worst) are love it or hate it. You either think it is great or its a disaster. For me, I like the Ito affiliated FFs: VI (although Kitase was involved as well), IX, Tactics, and somewhat XII (his worst), but I find Kitase's games overrated, VII, VIII, X, and what looks to be XIII. Sakaguchi did I, II, III, IV, and V.I don't care for what people think of games, only for what's actually in the game and whether I like it or not (as such, I am able to recognize quality in games such as Persona 3 ... and stay away).
VIII gets a lot of hate, mostly due to the fact that players either felt the need to draw 100 of each magic or due to plot related misunderstandings ... or griping about the orphanage scene. In any case, I like VIII mostly because it presents one of the most unique worlds in an RPG and one of the best narratives. But it's battle system did need more refining and i'ts clear that it was rushed, especially win the Japanese ver.
I prefer the Kitase games. XII could have been good, but it has serious plot issues and it's not sure of how to present itself (it's a game that takes place in a country that presents itself as if the villain threatened the world). Oh and VII used to be universally praised. It didn't start getting hate until after 2001. I'm not sure exactly when it garnered hate between 2006 and 2001 though, because I stopped going on internet forums for that time period. The only reason Final Fantasy IV and VI are universally praised is because they're not deemed as popular enough for people to notice that Final Fantasy IV's gameplay is imbalanced and it's plotiline is poor or that Kefka is underdeveloped (also a flaw of Ultemecia in VIII), or that the gameplay is somewhat imbalanced as well (character specific abilities are can have the same effect as limit breaks in VIII).
So much on whether a FF game is good or not depends on the story - so until it comes out and I can actually play it I'm not going to be 100% sold on the issue that this game is worth my time. Despite that I will still probably buy it (like I did with 12 even though it turned into a colossal disappointment.)
However - the fact that the writer for this game was also involved with writing the story for FF 7 is pretty encouraging. Also what looks promissing is this is the first FF since 7 to take on a darker, more futuristic tone - personally I was getting a bit tired of one magical/fantasy based setting after another.
Which leads me to say - Let the battle against the omnipotent, oppresively evil corporations by the heroic, rag-tag band of misfits commence!
