im not on ure boat im afraid. certainly not a terrible game at all. looks lovely and there are some really nice areas to explore in it. the levelling system is also kewl. but...i dont know....its not grabbing my attention at all. the characters are a bit dull imho and the story hasnt picked up (or if it has then i missed it). ive gotten as far as a mine where ure chased out of it by some lizards and im about to join some rebel group. that was a while ago....i havent played it in quite some time.
its an ok game...illl finish it some day (im hoping its a slow starter mind). but its got nothing on FF7 imho. dang i wish i had a PS1 card to play that again.
I didn't like it either. So many reviewers claimed it is a "mature and politically influenced game" and all I saw was a cheesy, bland story line, that paled in comparison to past FF's.
What I hated the most was the voice acting. It seemed every character had the same Indian try and voice different accents.
Who all has played this already classic title. They have fixed every thing about past final fantasy games i dont like and made a game im just addicted to. The gameplay is truly stellar and in my opinion raises the bar a tad for rpgs. Some people dont like the changes but i say they have not given it enough time.barnthepirate
Yeah I liked everything they changed especialy the combat, but I actually never finished it because I got my 360 and started playing other games I kinda wanna go back and finish it now.
FFXII's acceptance seems like it's divided down the line between one group that absolutely loved it and the other that absolutely hated it because it was such a departure from the series.
I'm in the group that loved it. I thought it was the best and most enjoyable FF since FFVI. The story, however, isn't that great and the characters were so-so. But the gameplay and the game design, such as the monsters, the environment, and the way how everything seems to go together seamlessly such as how all those areas are connected so amazingly, is what made me so impressed about this game. Definitely way better than FFX where you have to click on a location on a map just to get to the next location. FFXII was one gigantic connected world, very much like a offline version of FFXI.
I've clocked in over 100+ hours on FFXII and still haven't passed everything yet. And it was worth every minute.
It's like my grama always say, if you think FF XII is the best FF, then you havent played all the FF.ramones27x
played all the snes PS1 and PS2 ones. It's the best. The gambit system just beat everything the other ones did.

You forgot to say the NES...
I love this game. I think it really rejuvinated a series that needed it. It's acutally kinda like a 3d Chrono Trigger
Lamb_of_god01
No the third Crono trigger would be much better, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, this game is no where near the quality of these games.
The game wasn´t bad,but the Storyline was the sadest joke ever. The game was fun,but got boring thanks to the fact that I didn´t had the feeling anything happens. You meet the girl, you go take the super-weapon,go to the Boss, beat him...that´s it.Nothing that anyhow affects the game in between. The only things I could spoil here are so laughable...man they really had no Idea what to do to make the game more interesting.Or at least give it a bit more story then a 90Minutes-Movie...the ending came so fast and was so disappointing...the game managed to be the FF with the worst storyline and that was a real hard thing after FFX,which was also bad but at least much better made.To be honest I didn´t expect a big throw from the FFT and VagStory makers, but at least a bit more then almost nothing.
The Graphics, style, and music had been great, the gameplay itself was ok too,but I finished Enchanted Arms before (got it after FFXII and stopped playing it because of Enchanted Arms) because the story was much more entertaining and more fun to follow.

I completely disagree. The story is very well done, much superior to FFX's in my opinion, that felt so ridiculous it was laughable. FFXII has a fine balance of realism within the world it is set, and that draws me in alot more then FFX ever could.
Though I do agree that Enchanted Arms is a good game :P

I think the focus on FFXII was more for it's exploration and gameplay. I agree, the story and characters were weak, but the part the game got just right was the senseof giving you the feeling that you'rea part of a living and breathing world, which was done better than any Final Fantasy before it.
Usually, I get turned off by RPGs with a weak story or uninteresting characters, but FFXII's world and gameplay kept me playing. It really just felt like playing a MMORPG rather than a single player RPG.
To be honest, I don't get why people are liking the gameplay so much. It pretty much played by itself. SE promised more freedom in battles but I feel forced to have to watch some automatic fighting. And what's up with the Fleeing system,it's pain in the ass!azad_champ
It is more freedom. They give you the CHOICE of using gambits or not. I love the gambit system, because I was able to sit down and tweak each character so I didnt have to do mundane tasks such as using potions , antidotes, etc. All of that was automated for me. Sure , I would mostly sit and watch the batttles, but I would be studying them because of the gambits I put into place. If I noticed something not working properly, I would go back in and tweak the system a little more.I personally thought that part of the game was brilliant.

I think you got pretty much my point. But I somehow missed a "real"Storyline. That´s maybe because it was panned as a MMORPG with a single-player storyline.Well, the single-player stuff survived.I don´t complain how it was executed as Storyline (The basic idea was ok,the presentation was great) but overall I prefer deeper Storylines your character has anything to do with.
@AzelKosMos:I maybe explained a bit wrong.FFX´s Storyline wasn´t great and the basic Idea (making a nice world and setting the storyline in it instead of making a Storyline and then making a head for the rest of the game) isn´t the right way for me to make a good RPG.But FFX had instead more deepness if it comes to the role your characters play.FFXII made it even more the way a MMORPG is made which means it´s like : "You can do what you want,if your character isn´t in the party, every other could be".Exept Ashe all other characters had been just there.FFX had at least left the feeling your main character was important (well I still don´t like him) even if the Basic Story was very thin.FFXII´s Story was just interesting because it was very good presented...a bit too much SW Episode 1 but overall the direction it took (much more mature) was of course better.
It´s kinda hard to explain...but both X and XII weren´t bad after all,but I played many better RPGs.Both never had that much success without the Name. That´s sure.
I couldn't get into FFXII, and honestly, I regret buying it. JRPGs, for me anyway, are only fun when the storyline, characters, and fights are engaging. FFXII had none of that. Plot? Boring political tale that I've heard elsewhere before. Characters? No one memorable, and the acting was rather dry. Fights? Completely pale in comparison in terms of scope to past FF fights. Select a Fira spell in past FF's: Fire erupts from the ground. Select Fira in FFXII: a tiny flame singes the sleeve of an enemy's shirt. Boring. When I play an FF game I want to be fighting some behemoth that takes up the screen, using attacks that also take up the screen while looking really cool. The thing that really did the game in for me though was that it felt like I was playing an MMO during the fights. After having just quit WoW after two years the last thing I wanted was a game that played like an MMO.

Hmm. The fact that FF12 played like FF11 actually made me like the game alot more than I would have. The characters where definetely not as interesting as past FF games but the battle system IMO was great. I actually did not grow tired of fighting and leveling in this game. The story was underwhelming but doing hunts and fighting for summons kept me interested enough to get through the main story.
I put more time into FF12 than any other FF and never got bored of it until it was done, so I guess I liked it quite a bit.
The new and improved combat system is really what prevented the game from getting stale, even over the 100 hour mark. Sadly, from what I hear they're going back to the old way in FF13.
But yeah, combat and game-design was the best in the series so far. The story, though, really didn't pick up and get exciting at all. I thought FF7, FF8, and FF10 all had better stories and more likeable characters.

Which FF13? Both FF13 games will have a battle system more action oriented than FF12 where you'll be free to move and choose the baddies you'd rather to kill first. FF13 has a new battle system while FF versus has a system similar to KH but also improved.

Oh really? I didn't know that, I guess I heard wrong then. Can't remember where I got that info from, but I'm glad to hear its not true. Sounds interesting.
I like the game's fresh take on JRPG combat and that it rewarded exploration. I'm not a fan of grinding, but it is not as tedious as in previous FFs. The story is more toned down and more of a backdrop for your dungeon craling than your motivation for fighting. Also, it's less about the Hallmark Channel-moments that the last few FFs have been all about, this works to its advantage as FFX had me gagging and this game really needed not to go down the 'emo' route like the last three -four games (skipping XI and maybe VIII?). Thankfully it didn't and the story is all the better for it.
I think I was about 35-40 hours in when I got the obligatory case of RPG-fatigue. Will come back to it later. (still haven't gotten back to Dragon Quest VIII :()
