FF Dissidia reviews are coming in! Looks like it's pretty good, except for Game Informer who gave it a 6! Looks like Square-Enix didn't pay them enough--I mean--Game Informer just has bad taste. But doesn't Square-Enix own Eidos now? Um...nevermind! :P

Anyway, here are some reviews:

IGN - 8.9

Review:

http://psp.ign.com/articles/101/1014058p1.html

IGN's video review:

http://psp.ign.com/dor/objects/904962/final-fantasy-dissidia/videos/ffdissidia_vdr_081409.html

Eurogamer - 8

Games TM - 8

and...

Game Informer - 6 :o

This game has fanboy dream written all over it. Looks like PSP owners will have a blast the rest of the summer! As a PSP owner, I'm excited! This, SoulCalibur Broken Destiny a few weeks away...I love it!

Take that PSP haters!

Because Square-Enix wants to eat people's money! Chrono Trigger DS for $40! YIKES!

It's alright, that's why I stocked up on some Phoenix Downs! LOL!

I wouldn't go either! She's hot! She is a woman right? Darn ambiguous Final Fantasy metro male characters, LOL!

Once again, Japan gets the better Final Fantasy box-art!

I guess ours isn't bad either. Both Nomura and Amano are awesome artists!

This game has always looked like a mess to me, gameplay wise. I've watched several videos of it in action and it just looks to be little more than fan service with really hard to follow controls/combat mechanics, personally, unless someone would care to help clarify how the combat actually works.

I looked at the combat and it always looked kinda clunky and weird.

I have absolutely no idea to be honest! I don't care though. It's getting good reviews and has tons of content and my PSP is kind of starving for more games right now. Also, here's something that might interest you Skylock. This game has real deep customization to your characters. Don't know how it works but it's definitely more RPG than fighting...well, so they say.

I'm really not stoked about this game at all, though, simply because it looks like the combat is extremely clunky, compounded by a rather frustrating looking camera system. I mean, I'd have to read in detail what the customization actually entails, but even then I'm not really holding my breath for it to be amazing, personally.

Yeah, there's a pretty good video of the game, and the content of that video basically destroyed any interest I had in the game. If this game wasn't Final Fantasy, it would be lucky to even register as a minor cult hit.

Also, I'm surprised that nobody pointed this out, but some of the characters don't even look right. Like look at Terra! I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy nerd at all, but even I know she has green hair. It seems like all the old characters have been updated to look like modern Final Fantasy characters, which in my opinion destroys most of the fan service stuff for me.

I do agree with you on the fighting aspect of this game. To me, this is more Powerstone with RPG elements. Without it having FF characters, it probably would go under my radar. When there was a topic in the PSP forum that asked --Dissidia or Resistance--I always picked Resistance Retribution over this game for many reasons. But still, I never said Dissidia would be a bad game. It does looks like it can be pretty fun...but I guess one has to be a FF fan to enjoy it. I think IGN and GI says that, which I agree.

I'm still excited though. The PSP needs more titles and this is a welcome to my library anytime even though I don't see it becoming one of my favorite PSP titles.

I'm the import wizard over at the Final Fantasy Experience. It is a fun game to play I suppose. I just kept asking myself; does it really have to be that complicated? Does the GUI need all those gauges? It is quite easy to control. Yet, if you played Kingdom Hearts or even Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII you'll have a general feeling about the controls. This is including the complication associated with adjusting a camera in combat.

This isn't a Capcom fighter, or Tekken. It personally feels like a series of boss battles that you fight in any ordinary action game. But you're lucky enough to have several "awesome-looking" moves attached to memoriable characters. The main appeal to this game is Final Fantasy; take that away you have a very ambitious fighter but it would be less then cult-cIassic.

That's a brief but pretty good impression of the game. Thanks.

I had thought this game would either be heaven on plastic or a gruesome train wreck. I guess its managing to fall in between. My sentiments seem to match those of this thread. I'll give it a rent, but I sense a tinge of mediocrity.

Terra is actually blonde in all offical Amano artwork for FFVI. But Terra's alternative costume does have her with green hair. The designers were dumb however not to put Celes Chere in tha game, considering she is the main portagonist (at least perspective-wise) in the World of Ruin. Yuna not being in the game along with Seymour is idiotic as well.

I'm guessing Final Fantasy fanboys (or nerds) will forgive the shortcomings. I know I probably will. It'll be one of those, "it's okay, but I still like it" type of games just because it's FF.

Not the avatar artwork in the game. It's greenish. And her sprites is obviously green. She looks better blonde though.

They choose green because Celes was also blonde, they needed to differentiate between the two.

The roster is somewhat questionable. My only guess as to the train of thought behind the game's approach was striking the delicate balance between fan-service and preventing the game from being watered down. A case could be made for Celes, but then what about Edgar, Sabin, etc.

And Locke, Cyan, Shadow, and Mog....FFVI is tough to have a representing character because every character is equally important. But the developers did the right thing when choosing Terra since she really was the main character of the game. Even if the World of Ruin started out with Celes, that really doesn't mean anything. Even toward the end, Terra was clearly shown that she's the main lead.

Whenever I think of FFVI, I think of Terra.

FFVI has no real main character. Terra is the most important character in the plot however she is never the perspective character, except in the very beginning. Locke is the perspective character for most of the World of Balance, with a section with Sabin. Celes is the perspective character throught the World of Ruin....and in the ending Celes is the perspective character and Terra was the focus character.. So in a way Terra, Celes, and possibly Locke are main characters.

Terra is the best fit for gameplay purposes however.

If you playthrough the whole game multiple times (like I did), Terra does feel like the main character, overall. Which is why Square-Enix chose her to represent FFVI in Dissidia and which is also why FF fans aren't complaining and agrees with the choice. If she wasn't chosen, than I bet you anything FF fans would've thrown a fit.

Terra is the most important character in terms of connection with the plot (however Celes got the pivotal moment of the game where the fate of the world is decided on her actions), but the story is rarely told from her point of view. In the ending, it is actually Celes's point of view....basically its Celes's story about Terra. And Celes actually has more ties with Kefka than any other character. The game is really an ensemble cast.

The best thing they could have done is put Celes in the game along with Terra, and even put Locke in the game as well.

My psp's analog stick (or watterver it's called) doesn't work vertically but I wanted to give thedemo atry anyways, I could beat everyone by dashing to them(R+ triangle) then smashing on the point stealing attack (circle) and then tapping on square. Repeating this over and over again I could beat everyone on both difficulties. I thought it could be better.

Not really. It's more action packed than your average fighter. Add to that the ability to bounce around and pull different moves from different games. While it is fan-servicy but it still delivers. Game Informer gave it a 6 because they thought Square were milking the franchise. But the idea was in the making for years.

My only concern is whether balance is thrown out of the window in multiplayer. EX moves are pretty devastating.

When I first saw the gameplay video, I wasn't in love with the idea of floating for the whole fight. I mean, I can take jumps that can scale a 50-foot building, but come on. Spending the whole fight in mid-air, just isn't a good idea to me. Especially when watching the video. It seemed to be a real chore just to hit your enemy while in the air.
