Hello people! This summer me and some of my friends realised we had something in common - a decent ammount of freetime. Intending to do something about it, we will be holding a final fantasy marathon to entertain ourselves and hopefully an audience - that being everyone willing to watch from a safe distance via livestream. So, about us then. We're a group of 4 friends who've known eachother for the last few years, mostly via studies. We're either students, or in my case, soon-to-be-student after having completed my compulsory military service in the swedish army (middle of June). This idea came about a few months ago, and we formed the group "Tantalus 4" for pure fun. Tantalus 4 marathon rules: Time limit: The goal is 10 days (240 hours) Consoles: PS3, Nintendo DS (for FF III) Style: Single-segment (saving allowed, but limited by time). Only one game at the time, and we count it completed once we have defeated the final boss. Tantalus 4 marathon information: Games: FF I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII Members: MasterSundberg (VI, VIII, XII), KingVikmo (I, V, IX, X), Emanuel (II, IV, VII, X, XIII), Rickard (III, VIII, X, XII, XIII) Date: 18th July Recording: The games will be live-streamed from our website. Also, broadcasts from other events/random stuff will be added. Website: www.tantalus4.se Game order: 13, 2, 8, 5, 1, 12, 4, 10, 6, 7, 9, 3 Location: Sweden, MasterSundberg's or Vikmo's apartment More info will be added as time passes. Stay Tuned! So what do you people think? Will we make it or not? If you have questions or are interested, about anything, ask away or visit our website at www.tantalus4.se It's kind of plain, but works for our purpose. UPDATE: 13 July The game schedule is ready. It may still change, but this is the plan! We choose the current game-order because 1) We will need to rest and 2) Watching 6 2D-games in a row might get at bit tiresome. Also, we had to move the start-date a few days, mainly because it's getting increasingly hard to keep the time plan. Most trouble right now are FF VI (No Joker Doom, no fun), FF VII (really unforgiving at low-levels before you get to the good parts of the speed-run) and FF IX (limit-glove and only do so much). Comments, tips and strategies are always welcome! On to the good news! Things are moving forward. We feel a great deal of the games are under control, in the "under control"-section are FF I, FF II, FF III, FF VIII (though Griever's shockwave-pulsar is... fun) and FF X (Rikku saves the day!). On the flip-side, we've hardly started on some games and other games are truly challenging. Location: Johan's or Joakim's apartment. Start: July 22, 12.00 Local time (GMT +1) Game order: 13, 2, 8, 5, 1, 12, 4, 10, 6, 7, 9, 3 Much love, MasterSundberg and the Tantalus 4 crew

I loved watching my older cousins playing video games as a kid. Now, I don't watch anyone unless they're extremely skilled. Like, the top ranking players in games like racing or fighting are always enjoyable to watch because they're just so awesome! So if you guys are going to do a snooze fest then no thank you. I don't necessarily want a speed run through, but keep it entertaining and let's see how skilled you are without grinding and always picking the right strategies to beat bosses.

Hmm. I don't think you'll be able to do it. I'd say it's probably doable up to and including FFX and possibly FFX-2 but XII and XIII will be real time killers. Good luck though.

Its going to be tough lads, but I will view some of your footage! That is until you get up to FFXII, then I would rather loose a finger than watch you play that awful game :) good luck.

It's possible, but you have way too much free time on your hands my friends.

You're gonna need a lot of spare time to practice. While it might sound silly to practice, the more you know a game and played it, the faster you'll be able to beat it. Especially with FF, you'll need all the time you can get.

It's 2.38 AM here right now, and I'm pulling a all-nighter :) The time-plan right now is tight, real tight. We're working pretty hard on cutting down the play-time and work out strategies for each game. It remains to see if it'll be enough.

It's possible, but you have way too much free time on your hands my friends.

Yep. There will be an end to that soon enough, but we figured we could do some crazy time-consuming once-in-a-life-time stuff while we had the chance!

Ah, we'll do our best to keep the show interesting. As for how long it will remain interesting after 10 days, we'll see ^^

this might be quite interesting, provided you all provide a running commentary XD. I'll only watch the games I've played though, which is.... VII, VIII and XII. Damn I'm behind...In that case I'll watch I, II, III and V as well as I'm not interested in any of those, so I don't mind spoilers for those.

This is pure madness. FFXII will kill all hopes of doing this. I will place my bet right now that you will not be able to do this in the time you have allotted yourself, however it does sound very fun and I look forward to the results.

I'll watch some. I've finished there are 4 games there that I've not finished. I have had FFXII for such a long time now but never played it, so I might go for it after watching you play. Good luck.

MADNESS!? THIS-IS... nevermind. I think we will, I really do - if we avoid major mistakes. Truth to be told, we've not really planned out XII yet. However, it contains some really powerful abilities/spells which probably can be exploited. Also, there are lots of movie-clips which can be skipped.

We will! There will always be one guy playing and one guy supporting with ranting, food, cutting toe-nails and other important stuff. Much love, MasterSundberg

If you blow through them without doing sidequests, youre looking at 10 to 15 hours or so in 1-6. 7 to 13 were talking like 40 to 60 hours on average unless you're the master at speed runs.

So were talking let's just roughly say, 10 full days of gaming. Like, 24 hours full day. That's like 8 hours a day minimum as a rough estimate.

UPDATE: 19th July!

The pressure is rising rapidly as July 22 approaches us. The marathon will start in 3 mere days, and I tell you, we really look forward to it with fear-mixed anticipation! Everyone is working furiously to get ready and pull stuff together. An apartment has been more or less re-organized and is now pimped with 2 televisions, a PS 3, two PS 2, a PS 1, 3 computers, a mixer-table and a nintendo DS.
The picture-in-picture view is ready, along with most of the games. Still in progress are FF IV, FF VII and FF XII.

We're playing 12 games in 10 days, giving us 20 h average on each game. I think you're overestimating some of the games. You might complete 7-13 on 40 h + on a normal run, but not on a speedrun. Many of the games allow you to exploit the system/get away with low levels, just wait and see :)

Stay tuned!

Could you post a timetable showing when you're playing which games?

I dont remember much about saying you had a team of people playing together.

That's entirely different. Its quite doable with 3 or more.

UPDATE: 21th july

The countdown has begun my friends! In about 18 hours, we'll try to complete a full final fantasy marathon, which to our knowledge will be a world-first (completing the full marathon, that is). The above time-table is out of date, the first game will be Final fantasy V - but more on that later. As for me? There is still much to do. Playing even more FF, preparing the apartment, the live-cam and pesky details such as food and caffeine.

See ya tomorrow!
