Final Fantasy Tactics Advance help needed

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, is there a way to check the progress of a character in learning an ability? I am unable to figure out if a character has learned an ability or is about to learn an ability.

If I am correct, you must select a weapon or other equipment in that characters inventory to do that. If I am wrong then please forgive me, I haven't played this game for quite a while.

It has been a long time since I played it too, but there is a progress bar to show how much a character has learned in a skill...check the equipment that is equipped is what I would do.
