Both, Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time are generally looked back upon as two of the most revolutionary games to grace any console, and both are considered major hallmarks and turning points for their series. But the general consensus is that while Final Fantasy VII is the greatest RPG ever (I personally disagree, but that's just my opinion), Ocarina of Time is hands down the greatest game ever, period.

The thing is, I've seen fierce arguements and supporters on both sides, with no side ready to relent. My personal choice would be Ocarina of Time. I like Final Fantasy VII a lot, but Ocarina was simply too perfect.

Which one do you find better? Ocarina? Or Final Fantasy VII? Why?

I have both Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time.

I've played other Zelda games, and I've played other FF games.

A lot of FF games are pretty similar to each other, and well, I didn't feel compelled to even dint FFVII in means of how much I 'completed' of it.

So OOT, For the win and for sure!

I was only 10 and 11 when FFVII and OOT came out, respectivly, and I found OOT much easier to play at that age. I had never played a Zelda or FF game before that, and I though FFVII was too hard for a ten year old to play.

Both, Zelda because it was well done face lift since SNES (goodtimes) and FFVII because it's the first RPG (turn based) I played.

FFVII. OOT was a wonderful game. But VII just seemed to give me the richer experience. I loved the story, characters, adventure, and the feeling growing stronger as you play the game.

Ocarina of Time. Hands down. Few games can hope to have a semblance of the quality that OoT had. FF VII might be one of those. But it doesn't even come close to OoT.

FFVII was my first FAVORITE game, which is strange because I've beenplaying games seriouslysince 1990. I really liked OOT, but I felt the FFVII was just so much deeper and more satisfying. For proof of this go try and beat the Emerald Weapon. It's really the first time I've ever felt that I actually accomplished something in video games.

You could also just keep playing FFVII as well. Especially since the materia system let you level up each materia and then this eventuallycreates another one after so much experience. So, in the end after constant grinding you can make a group of characters that just absolutely dominates everything. To me that feels great!

I love both games, but i would have to give it to Ocarina of Time. The feeling i got everytime i had beaten a temple, or obtained a new item was just amazing. There was so much to do in the game, collect hearts, skulltula coins, look for secrets. It's was and, still is my all time favourite game.

Zelda OoT hands down. I may have disliked the N64 but OoT was a very special gem IMO. FF7 is still a good game though. I loved the fact FF7 had a more modern time stream punk setting.

this is a no brainer for me i pick Ocarina of time i have beatin that game endless times and enjoyed every min of it every time i felt no reason not ot play it it is just a awesome brillient game while yes fff7 was good i am not much of a rpg fan so action adventure with zelda was perfect ocarina of time i think has more replay value wich back in the day i think was more important but to put a dent in both games they both repeat them selves :P zelda has the same plot every time while final fantasy is basically the same just changed a little differntly each time but basically same plot Zelda Ocarina of Time = Best game of all time Personally that is :P

I prefer both in their own good way. I guess if I was forced to choose, VII. Both were revolutionary but at the same time immensely high quality.

Also, I'd like to add, I played both of them for the first time in 2004 with an unbiased opinion. It's funny, I still think they're better than most games nowadays.

To be honest I think Final Fantasy 7 is probably, from a gaming and literary perspective, the greatest game yet made. I will hesitate to say ever..because ever hasn't happened yet, lol. Anyway I enjoyed Ocarina of Time, it was a very easy game to get into and a fairly easy game overall to beat. The story was weak but the gameplay was stellar. Final Fantasy 7 to me excelled in all area. The story was amazing, the gameplay was solid and varied (from turn based fights, sub mission, minigames, etc.), and the exeprience was beyond expectation. Ocarina was good, maybe great...Final Fantasy 7 was incredible.

Why do all the new kids here make a first appearance in a 2 year old thread? Anyway, since it's here, I'd say Ocarina of Time, I haven't played FFVII yet but I've tried several FF games and never managed to get into any, I doubt it would be much different with FFVII.

While interesting both were not that impressive in their respective times. Honestly the amount of hype for each of these games was amazing and yet they offered things that weren;t really impressive, but since I must own at least 50 games on a console and brought almost every (every) console at launch I had more gaming experience then most anyway so of course they wouldn;t seem that impressive to me. it;s the same as COD is impressive to gamers now, all 3 are actually lacking, also I like how people call OoT a flawless masterpiece then complain about game control, combat, and a certain dungeon.

No modesty there, aye? :P

but if I had to choose one, it would be based on several factors: 1. Game would have to not drag on too much. (OoT, FF7) 2. Game would not have to pretend to have a non linear world but still play linearly. illusions are bad.(OoT) 3. Not have a severely broken combat system (OoT) 4. Not do things that people say are original or that game made even though it's not true. (OoT, FF7) 5. Must be graphically impressive compared to competitors on its own console. (FF7) 6. Must not pretend to have a plot that has depth by trying to use lousy plot twists. (OoT, FF7) 7. Must actual do something that keeps it from being too similar to a previous game. (?) 8. Etc. ( OoT, FF7) 9. Overrated level is too high. ( OoT, FF7) 10. Fetch quests and useless filler don't plague the game. (OoT, FF7) OoT has 8 negative points FF7 has 7 negative points. Point 7 depends. FF7 shares similar game elements to Vi in a different way the OoT does to LttP although both are tremendously recycling. Plus the negative ratio would be the same. The negative score of a game usually does not exceed 4 or 5 at most these games breezed thorugh. So i guess I find FF7 more tolerable (although I find it harder to play to finish, but at least I am not bored out my mind.) I am going off back when the games were out btw.

Well back then I never played FF7. I was all about OoT. I must have beat it completely about 10 times, one playthrough after another.

Now days, I'd say they are evenly matched. They are different types of RPG's, but very good in their own ways. OoT is still the best Zelda (in my opinon), and FF7 is arguably still the best FF game. I say it's a draw.

I prefer OoT, but it's not fair to compare these games; FFVII was a standard turn based JRPG and zelda is an action/adeventure game. They play very different and are very different games, and both a amazing in their own right.

Shenmue_Jehuty

not to quibble over syntax (your point is still clear & valid), but there was nothing standard about about ff7...it did set a few though.

materia system

boss's with multiple "strike zones"

more than 4 characters

Characters with real proportion

materia system

thematic music

large scale cities

FMV cutscenes

...it should maybe be mentioned that I haven't played OoT at all. so this is simply my appreciation of FF7.

Back in the old days, I would have said FFVII all the way. I used to be HUGE into Final Fantasy, then 9 just ruined it for me, and I never went back. I also used to hate Zelda. Ocarina was a title I never really "Played" until last year, meaning I have played it before, I just never tried to ever accomplish anything.

Nowadays, I'd say they are on equal terms with one another. Both are epic, and both are meant for different types of gamers. I can't really decide which I like better.

What's wrong with IX? (I've never got to half of any FF game, but IX and XII are the two that seem the most interesting to me, so any reasons to go for another other than IX? :P)

You know, I can't quite remember what it was that made me hate it. It's been almost 12 years since I last played it. Maybe I'll go back and try playing it again.

I think it just had something to do with the combat system. I found it too easy for my taste. I like my JRPG's to be extremely hard.

Heirren

Could we agree to disagree by saying that FF7 carries the most hype about it?

I mean, it came out 15 years ago and it's still being debated.

I still have various theme-songs pop into my head....

It's not my favorite FF game--and sure it's polygons are blockier every decade, and maybe you had to be there back in 97, but this game was ground breaking in every aspect at the time and still has a certain replay factor that not many games reach. oh, and, materia system.

I can't choose, because I played these 2 games in the same month when I was a kid. It was like my favorite month of gaming in my entire life. I would feel dirty and wrong to choose one over the other.

I bought into the hype and just never thought the game was any good. It really was the downfall of the series, where cinematics took over imagination. It is a very linear game.

Both are among my favorite games of all time, but I'll go with OoT without hesitation. Partly because I thought FFIII/VI was clearly better than FFVII, whereas I found OoT to be ALttP's 3D equal, which is really saying a lot.

Both are just fantastic games. I truly recommend both. Zelda was such a memorable time in my youth and I beat it in the third grade which felt SO rewarding to conquer at that time. Having said that.. My vote is for VII. I actually didn't play FFVII until I was about 11-12 and I think IX was already out. But me and my friends spent 6+ hours a day playing VII during the summer bc we got it for like $2 at a garage sale and the self-satisfaction at the end of 7 was SO much more rewarding than OoT because the characters were far more deep and the challenge WAS harder. I cared a lot more about the characters in VII and the sense of adventure was bigger. Not just restricted to Hyrule. But I DO think OoT has better replayability.

Final fantasy 7 was the first jrpg I played when I was a child and I loved it so much I still play it now sometimes on my psp. Zelda oot was one of the first games I played on my n64 and I really enjoyed that too. I have that on my 3ds. But final fantasy 7 just about edges it imo

I'd put MGS above FF any day of the week. Haven't beaten OOT so I can't vote in this thread.
