after reading http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/06/26/square-enix-reveals-conditions-for-final-fantasy-vii-remake

I am thinking maybe the best idea for a new FF Game would be a FF:VII-2 maybe one that takes place during the war they talk about in FF:VII that takes place 5 years ago.?

I say nah. We don't need more Final Fantasy 7. Enough's enough!

Besides, wasn't there a mobile game that touched on that subject?

Final Fantasy VII Before Crisis.

Always wanted to play it but I think it was only ever released in the JP phone market.

I don't want another FFVII game in the series, a remake is enough. I like the way final fantasy games can end without any need for a direct sequel seeing as how the sequels are usually crap; Dirge of cerebus, FFX-2, FFXIII-2 (although I think FFIII was actually the sequel to FFI and wasn't bad).

There's more than enough Final Fantasy VII content floating around, between the movie, the prequel and the spinoff.

I'd say bring out a Final Fantasy V-2 or a Final Fantasy IX-2, if anything. But mostly, keep the past in the past and keep churning out new content.

But god knows how long that takes Square Enix.

CrisisCoreDirge

The Final Fantasy VII universe has been explored quite thoroughly already.

(Both of these are great games BTW.)

I also still think that Final Fantasy VII, as a whole (When you include Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus), has one of the best plots in all of video games.

No, no, and no. Like the others said, enough already. Square either needs to get back in touch with their roots to create a stellar Final Fantasy game or just leave the series be and don't create any more stupid games.

The FFVII universe has been the most explored out of all the FF universes as it is.

We have Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII (Japan only, mobile), Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP), Final Fantasy VII (PS1/PSN/PC), Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (DVD) and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (PS2). Even FFX-2 has a slight connection to VII.

So no, we don't need a FFVII-2. The only thing that is needed is a FFVII remake and then the whole thing can be put to bed.

I say let it go. It was a good game, but not good enough to warranty 15+ years of angst over the lack of a sequel/remake.

I think people should get it through their heads that Square Enix is incapable of making a Final Fantasy game that even comes close to living up to the standards of the past, and just go back and play the old games in the series if they like them so much.

I don't think anyone at Square is capable of making a game as good as the worst Sakaguchi FF games, let alone a follow up to one of the best.

Agreed. We already have FF VII Crisis Core, FF VII Last order and FF VII Advent Children, which, even if it's "just" a cg movie literally IS a FF VII-2

Just make another great one. We don't need any more FF7 stuff, it's udders are milked dry. No more sequels and relying on older things, we want another great FF game and it seems like it's never gonna happen again

It already happend. It's named

"The Last Story" ^^

Oh wait, not yet out for you guys in the US ;S Though, shame on me, I own it for a while now here in the EU in the Limited Edition and still haven't played it that much yet. So much as I have played it it looks very promising and Uematsu's music and Sakaguchi's storytelling meld perfectly hand in hand together as in the good old Squaresoft days.

If I'm not watching out ths is starting to coiunt as review, so I just say: Get it when it's out if you miss the old FF days of Squaresoft ^^

Exactly. It will just never end. Final Fantasy VII is a good RPG on its own merit, don't get me wrong, but it is one of the most overrated, overhyped RPGs to date. It needs to die in that sense, literally.

A lot of people, but not me. It wasn't what I wanted or expected either. I know they made references to the original game, but that's not enough. It was a completely different game...a game I wasn't happy with in the end.

Haa i don't really care if they remake it or not, just the only thing that they can offer are better graphics which completely defeats the object seeing as Square are being slated for only caring about graphics and not gameplay.

Another reason why I wouldn't want a sequel as well. But then again, it's all they have left being capable of since Sakaguchi (creative, inventive storytelling) and Uematsu (creative, innovative music that just melded in perfectly whith Sakaguchi's storytelling) have left the company...so...meh...

I think it all can be summed up in giving up hope on Squenix once and for all and for good and start looking for fresh studios who're still capable of delivering the joy and awesomeness a great epic rpg deserves. And they're still out there, as CD Projekt for example proves.

Thats one way to look at it, or you could think that the master leaving could mean someone with fresh ideas will take over (unless he left ages ago which would be a different story) I don't think we should give up on the guys who gave us final fantasy in the first place just yet :D

There is already a movie about the story after Final Fantasy VII, it's called Final Fantasy: Advent Children. You should check it out. There is also a prequel Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, so it's impossible to make sequels or prequels. The only chance is a HD remake, and honestly we don't need it now.

That's why I don't like Squeenix primiarily these days; none of the recent FFs in memory have been fun at all. They've been eschewing gameplay all the way in favor of cinematic storytelling and jaw-dropping graphics. I don't care how great the graphics are or how good the soundtrack is; if it doesn't deliver on the fun and enjoyment I get out of it, it's pointless to play it. FFXIII and XIII-2 are prime examples of a bad Final Fantasy game. Like I've been saying for a long time now; they need to go back to what REALLY WORKED and that's the earlier Final Fantasy games that were a major success. The only positive thing I can say about FFXIII is that it is also different, just like how every FF up to this point has been so far. But it doesn't mean it's a fun game...never was, never will be. But kudos to those that somehow find some pleasure in FFXIII!

I loved Chrono Cross. I may be the only person that likes RPG games that has never played Chrono Trigger. I recently downloaded both from PSN but haven't actually had the time to get into either of them. Perhaps I should. Many consider CT the best RPG of all time (apparently Drac is fond of it) so I guess I need to give it a decent whirl. Maybe this weekend to avoid the heat....

it does if you play the original, not the icky remake with cheesy anime styled cutscenes and redone music.

PlayStation version is the "remake." I think the original SNES version is available on the Virtual Console if you've got a Wii.

I do. I'll have to get that version then. Never played it on SNES even tho I ran through games like BoF and Final Fantasy III (imo, best RPG ever made).

To this day the SNES is still my favorite RPG system. So many awesome RPGs and then a ton that never made it out of Japan. To be honest this is what I "thought" the VC was gonna be so I ended up disappointed.

Only reason I got a Wii is to get some of the older games from the SNES, N64 days. I've had the most fun on any console with the SNES back in the day.

PlayStation version is the "remake." I think the original SNES version is available on the Virtual Console if you've got a Wii.

Dracula68

Totally agreed on that, my number one prime example of an awesome RPG till these days is Lufia (Lufia 2 / Estpolis 2 outside of the EU). Even if it has some cheesy lines when we take in modern times and storytelling, the atmosphere, fun and sensation it delivered can't even be rivaled by Grandia or FF VIII in my opinion (The other one are epic prime examples of an epic RPG in my eyes as well though)
