I want to know because I'm planning a christmas list and I have only played 1,2,7,10 and 12 but I haven't finished any of them.

Imo, it's VIII. But it's subtleties and strenghts seem to elude most people, and people seem to get bent out of shape over a brief plot development so you might not like it.

Out of the ones you listed VII is roughly equal to X, 1 and 2 aren't really that great of stories but considering their time they're fine, and XII is sort of a mess plotwise.

There's really nothing else out there even similar to VIII.

in my opinion, you cant go wrong with either FF7 , FF8 ,or FF10, as all of those have great storylines

as for the best one, I think 7 but other people might disagree

I personally have only played 1,2,4,6,7 and 12. They are all excellent games, but I can't bring myself to finish 12 for some reason. For story, apart from 7, I highly recommend 4 and 6, but 1 and 2 are just classics.
Yeah, because NOBODY else has EVER pulled the "Oh, you all just have amnesia!" card. *Sighs* So lazy.
As far as story goes, I'd go FF6 or FF9. FFX is pretty good too.

Count me in with you two also. I haven't actually beaten it yet, but it's one of my favorites.

On topic- both VIII and IX would be good additions to your collection.

Amnesia is an extremely small aspect of VIII's story. There is so much more to VIII that sets it apart.

VI is my favorite. FFVII is overated as far as story goes. Great game nonetheless. FFT is too convoluted to be considered the bestFF story.

Play the PSP version and come back and say the story is too convoluted.

The amnesia is such a miniscule part of the plot. Just ignore it. It was just devised so that the characters didn't act like they all knew each other in the beggining, while maintaining that Ellone knew them in order to send them to the past.

-.- PLEASE don't tell me how to think. I'm telling you that plot twist soured the story for me. Period. I'm really freakin tired of people on these boards trying to convince me that I'm wrong just because I don't hold the same opinion about a video game they love.

It was just a suggestion. I wasn't saying that you were wrong.

Yeah, you already made another thread dealing with this topic, so I'll have to lock this and ask that this discussion continues on in the other thread based on this.

Please avoid posting the same thread twice in the future, thanks. ;)
