Im looking for a new mmo to play ( I play Guild Wars at the moment but I think the game relies too much on groups) I wanted to know If wow or Final Fantasy XI Is better I know FInatal fantasy has a collection of all the expansions and the original game for $20 and wow is pretty cheap too . As far as monthly prices I heard wow costs more but you can create as many chracters as you want . Please give me your opinions on what's better for the pric.

Thankyou :)

Final Fantasy XI if you want a more challenging, deeper, and time consuming MMORPG. WoW if you want an easier, more popular, and simpler MMORPG. I chose Final Fantasy XI obviously. I felt it was the better game.

I have played FFXI pretty thuroughly and agree to recommend it but I have not experience WoW. I can say though that the visual style of WoW didnt appeal to me.. it was more light hearted and the characters seemed more charactures which didnt sit well with me. FFXI seemed more adult, sleek, cool. and I had a load of fun with it. Nothing quite like getting your Character Class Artifact Armor set when you reach the higher levels. you feel really accomplished and you make loads of friends. not to mention your bound to pick up on some japanese playin the game, I know I did.

As a guy who's playe both, i say that if you wanna play ff11 it's a bit late since most people have reached max level. Though somehow FF11 was released earlier it has the better graphics(summons look awesome) The animations are all different, there are more jobs and the monthly subscription fee is cheaper. Wow has more people though, so you have more people to interact with, and Wow has mounts, (you only get chocobos in ff11) wow also does a god job witht he atomsphere of the game.

There's little point in joining in FFXI this late in its life. Even more so since the economy is so screwed up in that game. WoW isn't a fantastic alternative, but at least you won't have to farm for hours just to buy your gear.

Dude, World of Warcraft is leagues better unless you hate fun. Final Fantasy 11 is more of a job, though to be fair it is a tad more complex. However, I believe that making a game more simple but still as deep really is what World of Warcraft does. There'sa reason why one is the most popular MMO and the other is only known to you because it says Final Fantasy in the title.

If you wanna raid end game wow is just as much of a job as ffxi. Heres what ill say ffxi is better if you have a solid group of friends to play it with doing stuff alone is a pita. FFxi is also very late in its life esp since it was out in japan before being out here for some time. Ask some friends see what they say. Really any MMO is going to be a pretty big time sink to so keep that in mind. IDK i liked wow better but in the end you have to try and decide yourself.

That is trueFFXI was released in japan 2 years before coming to the states.. so no doubt traffic has gone down alot. I don't often play mmorpgs so I can't really comment on life spans of a game tho. I think I remember hearing lose talk of another mmorpg set in the same universe as FFXI coming from square-enix but that I am not sure of, they have announced a new mmorpg for sure though so I probably wont play another one until I see what thats all about.

Having personally experienced WoW for a couple years now, I would at least try the game out. It's very fun and their is loads to do. Thousands upon thousands of different quests, a crap load of different weapons and armor, so many different creatures to kill, and so much more. Azeroth (the world in which WoW takes place) is freakin' huge. So many different places to go. Plus, there is pvp. I'm not sure if FFXI has pvp for i've only played it once a long long time ago. If I were you, I would just stick with WoW. Can't go wrong with the most famous MMORPG.

If I were in your place I'd play FFXI. Not because it's better. But because WOW is so popular.

Id say go with World of Warcraft. As others have said, its a bit late in FFXI's life cycle to be a newbie. So many people play WoW, that you can always find a group no matter your level.

FFXI is good, but WoW feels much better. Dunno, everything about this game feels just right. The combat has real weight, despite the fact you'ree only clicking on icons, the professions are interesting, and the community is huge. Plus, I prefer the quest system. End game is not much fun, but the Burning Crusade expansion gives those who reach to level cap lots to do, even if they don't feel like raiding.

I can't really comment on WoW, so I'll give my pros/cons of FFXI.

I quit around the end of December, so maybe things have improved, maybe not. Around the time of quitting I was trying to level some lower jobs of mine (Lv30-40) jobs and had a hell of a time finding a group. Earlier posters are right, unless you have/or make a nice group of friends it's going to be very time consuming to get a group together and actually level up, since most people are spending their time meriting their Lv75 jobs now.

I loved sticking with FFXI though because many of the story archs were fantastic. I still feel like the Chains of Promathia story line was probably one of the best games I've played, crappy dungeons and being level capped sucked, but the boss fights and cut scenes were worth it.

I guess what i'm saying is this, if you can put in the large amount of time to make a solid group of friends (probably in your same experience range, or not) you'll have a much easier and more enjoyable time in the world.

stay away from WOW, its way to addictive. But as for not liking Guild wars because you didn't like to find groups, from what I've heard, FF11 requires more grouping than WOW. Although WOW does require groups for some things, there are some alternatives...

I'd stay away from both though, way too addictive... and also they are older now. Save your addiction for a new online game like Age of Conan.

Time sinks? Yes. Too addictive? That depends completely on the individual playing them, not the game itself.

I liked both. For me, I always looked at the two in terms of gameplay and community. To me, Final Fantasy 11 had the superior community of people playing it, while World of Warcraft had the superior gameplay, overall. Not saying the gameplay in 11 is bad or anything, just saying that it's more fluid in WoW, just like I'm not saying that you can't find cool people playing WoW and stupid people in 11, because you can. It's just that since the number of people playing WoW is so much higher than people playing 11 that the number of idiots will be greater there; I just ran into more annoying people in WoW, is all.

BUT before all of that:

(I play Guild Wars at the moment but I think the game relies too much on groups)

javi66106

11 relies very heavily on grouping. WoW is much more lenient to soloing/small grouping. So based on what you said there, you will want to go with WoW. Yeah, I'd say go with WoW.

FFXI was structured pretty much like a communal version of a single-player game, so while I'd recommend it over WoW, joining in on FFXI now would be like starting a new game while a majority of the people are working on one of the last chapters of the game.

If you rush to meet them, you'll miss out on everything and if you take your time, you won't meet them for several years and they might as well be playing the next FF MMO.

FFXI is a great MMO but you might be better off waiting until the sequel to get into it. Suffice it to say it's as memorable as any FF game, and although the NPC characters are memorable in and of themselves, I find myself missing many of the player characters as well. Those that have moved on in one way or another.

Well, it all depends on the types of games you like to play. If you liked FFXII, I would recommend you to get FFXI since the gameplay and battle system pretty similar so you would feel at home. WoW, I really can't say something about it, since I have never played it but if you played a game like the MMO like the one of LotR then you would probably like Wow.

IMO, the only thing you have right is the time consuming part. WOW definitely has its share of timesinks(all MMOs do) but FFXI takes that idea to an entirely new level. Nearly every area of the game is unnecessarily slow. Also, FFXI only feels more challenging is because the battle system is far more limited and player characters are extremely weak with very few useful abilities. I believe "frustrating", is a much better description of FFXI gameplay vs WOW.

Heh, I've never had a hard time finding a group even as a Tarutaru melee (considered the weakest for melee due to low strenght and vitatlity). I took warrior to level 70 pretty quickly before I quit in December 06. I guess it was because I was on the most popular server in FFXI (Fairy) ;) or I was well known around the community. I had been playing for 3 years. :P

Maybe that wasn't a very accurate comment then. I quit about the time they added the merit ablilites, so of course everyone is going to focus on that. Glad to hear it's not as bad. Though getting with a 4 man static with friends wasn't too bad.
