I'm going back through this game for the first time since 2006. I never beat it but I got really far through it. I remember I was let down by the game at the time but now I'm wondering why. It has amazing graphics, story, characters, etc. Can anyone tell me what you think of it?

Yeah, that's mainly why I posted this because I know it wasn't really well liked.

I liked it a lot. -LOVED the battle system (took a lot of the grinding out for me)...no waiting for a battle to load, can let it take care of itself for weak enemies and take charge with strong enemies -I liked the story and setting -the individual characters could have been better, but I liked the switch from the Micro to the Macro

I thought it was a great game. Lots of people probably didn't like it cause it was so different from your normal FF game. I remember the first couple hours I played it, it just didn't feel like it had that FF feel that all the other games do. That didn't stop it from being a great game though. The story was weak, but it made up for it through great gameplay. The world was more open, which I liked, and the battle system was fairly complex and fun to master. The game also got quite challenging in some of the later dungeons, and the optional bosses like Yiazmat and Omega Mark XIII were pretty strong and gave you a nice sense of accomplishment when you finally beat them (though Yiazmat was getting a little ridiculous in how long it takes to kill him...I found Omega to be harder actually, Omega attacks a lot faster and relentlessly). Overall not the best FF game, but far from being bad. I enjoyed it.

i thought it was just so-so and was let down by just about everything in the end. at first it had a final fantasy-esque feel to it (like the people who made the game were influenced alot by final fantasy games) but after awhile all i kept thinking was "oh god, another 3 hours of grinding to continue"

I played about halfway through the game, and got tired of it. I hated the battle system, and the job board was the crappiest leveling system I've ever seen in a Final Fantasy game.

My first play through I disliked it but for some reason, on my second play though, I enjoyed it a lot.

I loved it. It's one of my favorite games ever. The only thing that wasn't that great about it was the character development in the story. Other than that, it was flawless in my opinion.

It's a B-grade game for me because the game did not have strong character development. The battle system is fun but summoning monsters still takes forever because of lame cinematic scenes.

It was a decent Final Fantasy game. Not one of the great ones, but overall pretty solid. I really liked how they, for seemingly the first time in the series, actually introduced some shades of gray into the story telling. There were times where you could actually relate and understand why the bad guys were doing what they were doing. More complex motivations than your usual wanting to rule and/or destroy the world fare. Did NOT like how there wasn't a lot of differences combat wise from the characters. You could turn pretty much any character you wanted into any type of combat character that you wanted and that ruined some of the character uniqueness for me. The game also had serious issues trying to decide who they wanted the pain character/protagonist to be.

I really like the game, mostly the combat but they story is good and ok characters, the license board, while not great it is WAY better then sphere grid and that stupid crystarium system in XIII

the "limit breaks" are WAY to OP but I just don't use em
