http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/09/final-fantasy-xiii-2-travels-through-time-to-fix-past-missteps/

Man I'm excited for this game now. This seems like an improved new game plus which was one of the big things that annoyed me about the first game. I enjoyed FF13 however, like many others, was dissapointed in it's linearity, inabiulity to explore open areas/town/speak to people and the way it opened up the Crys thingy arium at the end of the game so the only point to macing them out was for a trophy :( They're not "fixing" the battle system but I kind of enjoyed it so I don't see that as a problem.

Anyone else getting excited for this game? Looks like they're addressing many of the problems with FF13.

Final Fantasy 13 was and still is the single worst game I have ever played in my entire life, I will stay far FAR away from this one. That said I love rpgs in general and the FF series in particular but this game just drove me **** crazy to the point where and I kid you not after the Barthandelus fight I broke the disc in two and used my collectors edition box to empty my kitty litter in and threw it in the dumpster. man you made me mad just thinking about it:D

Final Fantasy 12 is the one you're thinking off. I preferred the DS expansion game which was more a strategic JRPG. FF12 was alright but I found the story to be really bland and uninteresting. I thought 13 did a great job of remedeing this, although it was a shame most of it was told via reading :( I would have preferred the old method of walking around towns chatting to people.

The worst part is that it's completely linear. It's the worst leveling system since IV.

The worst part was that it didn't completely unlock until after you'd finished the game. So what was the point of levelling again? Trophies and the final marks seemed like about all.

Worst leveling system since IV? I suppose, but I'd rather take IV's leveling system over the BS that we were given in XIII. Then again, Final Fantasy IV is the best FF in the entire serie, IMO.

I meant that in both games you have no choice whatsoever in how you gain abilities. Sure, you can choose to spend your points on Rav/Com/Med whatever, but you'll end up the same every playthrough.

IV is still far superior.

Been gaming since 1987 when my parents got me my first NES mate. I know there are technically worse games than FF 13 but that game was such a shock to me, I didn't expect it to be so bad which is why I classify it as one of the worst games I've ever played

I agree with you on XIII...they should have given you better options, but this was developed on the SNES, FFIV that is...they were still starting to make RPGs on that system and on the NES before it and were just learning it, so I was totally fine with it.

II and III had more freedom in leveling though. I guess you need to take a step backwards when going to a new console.

That's true. But keep in mind though, we never got a chance to play II or III until years later and from what I've seen, the leveling in II, back then, was pretty complicated. Not sure about III, but all I know is that one is really hard. I tried playing it for awhile on the DS incarnation, but I didn't get that far. You really had to spend hours grinding for what it's worth. I guess since it got too hard, they had to scale it down a bit in terms of difficulty with IV, but that was for the US version, I think...or maybe it was the JP version, I can't remember. One of them was FFIV Hard Type, that I do remember.

III is similar to V, but less complicated.

That's the US version of IV. Items like antidote, gold needle, etc. were combined into one item called Heal. All the items were cheaper and the enemies were alot weaker. The last part of the game has a huge difficulty spike though.

Was V the one where they brought back the job system? It had blue mages and, from memory, started with a scene on top of a tower with a dragon or something.

I love when they use the job/class system of levelling. Works great in DQ9 and Tactics Ogre LUCT. Would love to see them try it again in the next FF game (15) too.

I believe V was the one that did bring back the job system, but we didn't see V again until YEARS later in the US. Also, you're correct; Final Fantasy V did fade into a scene with a dragon at the top of the tower.

ff13 is terrible but it is very far away from being the worst game. and why break it when you could have gotten some of your money back?

The more I see/hear about XIII-2 the more I want to play it. I really enjoyed XIII and I'm sure I'll enjoy XIII-2 just as much. The time travel system seems really appealing to me. Travel between different timeperiods, exploring different events and meeting characters in different situations through time is something I can really see myself enjoying.
