I know I can't be the only one that came away from the Sony conference thinking this and Kingdom Hearts were PS4 exclusives. So how does everyone feel about the new real time action-based gameplay?

The look of it really gives me "this is FF7's true sequel" vibe but I don't know yet what to think of the battles. The parts in the trailer though, where they showed the stealth sneaking and objects getting destroyed in that room...that part looks awesome. And I'm not entirely sure if there's an actually jump ability? But I'm also a bit saddened if this ends up being the death of the JRPG. I know they're not as popular anymore, but they still have their place. I liked the passivity, strategy and the story telling style of it all. This more or less kills "the party" doesn't it?

Here's the original trailer from the PS4 conference for those of us who had bad feeds. Looks really great.

I didn't have any doubts in Square Enix's power in cinematic and storytelling visuals, so that's fine. But it's another to mess it up with an average cast, bad story, bad gameplay, and so forth, which is something Final Fantasy XIII had in its gameplay and I wasn't very happy with it. It didn't feel like a FF game to me at all. So, for now, this is nothing more but a wait-and-see approach for me. Action RPGs is something I don't mind as long as it is done right. If Square Enix can successfully blend in great combat with a good story and good cast of characters, along with good music and a lot of replay value not found in FFXIII (but in the past instead), then it may revive my faith in the series.

I think it will be the best final fantasy game and one of the best games in the history of video games.

Still PS4 exclusive for people who see long term value in their games. The Xbone version is an extended rental.

If there's a demo out for it on the PS4, I'm inclined to give it a shot. Hopefully, if it's that decent enough, a full purchase may be in the works.

I find Action RPG to be some of the worse RPG out them. It rare for one to be a decent one.

FF has been moving away from the classic formula for a while. XII and XIII both used a scheduled, DPS-type system. before a return to roots in IX and X, the series had been toying with real time elements. there have been lots of pure turn-based with automatic pause JRPG's since then and i suspect they will continue on.

This one looks packed, it has shooting, platforming and many other things. It combines the best elemnets from games with similar themes as DMC and Bayonetta. So not only you have an RPG in this one, you have a hack and slash, shooting and platforming too.

It looks like Too Human which is not that goood. Base on action RPG I played before they are not that good and rare are highly praised by many. I think kingdom heart and Dark Soul are the few that are like that.

it looks good and interesting, but I cannot tell if combat will be fun and require skill, and it remains to be seen the structure of the game.  It almost looks like its Uncharted: The Final Fantasy :P

I did not think there were exclusives because every other FF game coming out now is for both systems for the most part. I thought the gameplay in FFXV look amazing from what I saw. But it is still hard to tell with them, in my opinion the last amazing FF game was Final Fantasy X.

I'm just curious to see if they plan on keeping the party system if they go this route. If that's gone, then it really changes the formula of the JRPG. What little strategy they had would be dead.

i'm pretty sure that there were multiple health bars in the HUD. plus the quick flash of all those half faces seemed a lot like a party status screen to me.

Oh you're right. I missed that. It's hard to notice. Well then this could be great then. Will be interesting to know if they're just on autopilot when you're handling your character or if you still have some quick access to them. That calms my worries.

Hey this could be a good change for the series if done right.

The most impressive part for me was still the one in the reveal from the Sony PC. The interiors looked great and the shooting elements, stealth and destructible environments look like it could add some strategy for non-battle portions.

Read this if you want to know how this game will potentially play.

That actually sounds really freaking good. There's still not much there about the party system, but the gameplay elements sound great.

Looks awesome.

Even though I doubt it will support it, this and other JRPG's are exactly the type of games that I could see a controller/Kinect/voice integration being a huge plus. Being able to control some of your other party members or spells/equipping/potions with voice/gesture commands would make it awesome. If you want to heal, just say it. If you need your party members to attack or fall back you can just give them some basic commands.

It's probably too much to ask for Square to implement it in this game  - heck I'm amazed they're actually going to release it - but in the future I could see that being a big part of the gameplay.
It's totally goth Cloud! Even looks like his sword. Kind of.
I am just worried that things will feel to strict and random.  Meaning the hand on shoulder shooting and parrying are random (or no?), the attacks with kicking slashing and other is just random and they are all triggered the same, and the lock on points are too strict for the warping.

It all looks really cool, but I hope it involves some skill and is fun and engaging.

I keep looking at the cast of characters and I have a problem with it at least the males. Is anyone else having a hard time relating to these characters? Especially the male cast. They are all metro sexual emo dolls? Why?

original.jpg

The girls and the bad guys look much better.

It was cool for FF7 and FF8 and even the newer ones where the rest of your party had some variance, and characters like Cloud or Squall stood out, but here it's like they're all freaking clones of each other. They also look robotic and droid-like.

Maybe their personalities will make up for it, but this is really bugging me.

Well it's working for many people whereas games with normal looking dudes aren't as popular.

I was thinking the same thing. In one of those screens, the soldiers are shooting at Noctis, but it doesn't look like he's blocking, etc, yet I don't see any damage or effect from the enemy attacks.

I guess we'll find that out when it gets closer to release,

Are we looking at the same image?

Only the main character in this picture is "emo"?
Metro sexual? What do you want them to wear then? Which one of these guys look metrosexual? Are they considered metro sexual just because they don't look like Commander Shepard?
How do these four look similar to you???

Shouldn't 2013 be more open than this, they look rather ordinary but you make it sound as they're a complete freakshow.

Indeed. I actually like the character designs for the game. I don't see how they're weird or freaky. This may be the most normal looking Final Fantasy cast yet.  Do I need to post this image of Nooj from Final Fantasy X-2 again?

I think I do

I suppose so. Then again, Final Fantasy VII...as much as I liked that RPG, it is simply overhyped and overrated to death. It was one of the better RPGs in Final Fantasy history, though, but not their best.

i hate to sound synical but i think square has lost its quality. this gen was a dissapointment with the 13 series and now they change versus 13 to 15 in an effort to get every1 excited again about a game that they announced god knows how many years back. ill probably end up getting though either way since it still is a final fantasy game, but ive just really lost respect for square enix this gen. i mean i liked 13 but not enough to play the other 2 and it was the worst ff ive played (still a good game though, ive only played ff10-13).

its just hard to get excited about this game again. i mean they announced it like back when ps3 came out and its been so many years. i mean who releases a random trailer of a huge name title and then no word from them for a whole gen like wtf? the characters look weak, the story looks over-complicated like 13 was and the graphics don't really look like anything that can't be done on current gen plaforms.

lol i wouldnt be suprised now they did the same thing again and KH3 gets released on PS5 or something

I don't care too much, though a bit more variance in male chars would be nice.  I am wondering if there will be different gear and if your look will change at all because of it.

Maybe their personalities will make up for it, but this is really bugging me.

alexwatchtower

Got any pics of the other chars too?

I like Noctis's look.  The guy to the left of him is somewhat masculine, but the guy to the furthest left is very femenine lol.  The guy on the right jus looks like a hipster douchebag :P.
