Bought Fire Emblem Path of radiance recentely and I'm loving it. This series gets no love and is criminally underated and ignored by some. It's a triple A franchise.

Anyhow for those unfamiliar with the series its a strategy RPG. Now I know what you're thinking... strategy:| RPG :? . But I'm no strategy fan and I've only ever really liked one RPG in my life. But I love fire emblem with my very soul. It's a brilliant series, that like advance wars, packs a punch, it adds all these little touches which almost make every little individual battle feel like delivering that finishing blow in a streetfighter game. The writing, storywise is not going to win any awards, but the subtle and sometimes unsubtle ways that the writing attaches you to the characters is brilliant. You care about every character, which makes it harder when you lose them.

The reviews:

 • Nintendojo 9.7
 • Jive Magazine 5/5
 • Nintendo world report 9.5
 • Nintendo Power 9.5
 • All RPG 9.2
 • GC Advanced 9.2
 • Gamesmaster 9.1
 • NGC magazine 9.1
 • Gamesradar 9.1
 • GameInformer 9/10
 • Gaming Age A-
 • Gamespot 8.6
 • IGN 8.7
 • Gamespy 4/5
 • Eurogamer 8/10

There was  a FE Anime?? Someone translate this. Is that spanish?

Right now I'm on the mission defending the Apostle ship :D

Griel, Ike and Mists'father, General and leader of the Griel mercenaries.

Mist, Ike's sister and healer. Uses Staffs.

Gatrie, a Cad and Knight of the Greil Mercanaries.

Fire Emblem gba above

Boyd, axe man of the mercenaries. Impulsive, one of three brothers on the team.

Shinon, an arrogant Sniper who uses bows for critical hits.

Did you just happen to find a copy of this game? Well, I'm glad you enjoy it. I managed to find a pretty good one in fair condition. I have yet to get into it, but I am a Fire Emblem veteran...played through both GBA versions. I still think the first GBA version was the best and it is my personal fave. If you haven't played that one, you should try it out. It's cool because you actually play a character that's "you" instead of being in the role of someone else. The way the game placed that role on you was a great idea. You're actually a tactician. You don't participate in battles but the characters of the game start talking to you. It was a nice touch.

It looks like you're really into Path of Radiance. I get like that to whenever I find a old game, especially if it's a game I always wanted to check out. It feels like you've missed out, but it's great to finally pick it up and found out what you've missed. Games that came to my mind is the original Call of Duty, Warcraft III, and Far Cry.

Anyway, enjoy the game. It's hours and hours of strategy goodness. I hope you don't reset your Cube everytime a character dies...well, that's what I did. My goal was to keep everyone alive...it's a challenge.

That's exactly howI feel, I'm a gba veteran too and because of european release dates, scare copies, high prices and timely release of sacred stones I didn't pick up path of radience till now. I agree with you the gba games are still my faves, I love the way that you act as an outside tactician, when the characters turn to you and use your name that you've inputed, it makes you feel like part of the group.

So far though I still prefer the gba games. Something about the cohesiveness of the all 2-D presentation, the little flourishes of the battle sequences, it's exquisite. On the gba versions the on screen representations were clear cut, you could tell what class of character, everyone was with a mere glance. On POR I find it hard, so I have to literally put the cursor over many units.

The music is better, not the quality of the music but the actual compositions and arrangements. It's better for the fight sequences, the preparations screen, intro, just better tunes. The overhead view is pretty flawless, you can instantly recognise your units and enemy units. The gameplay is faster, there are more animation options. The fight sequences aren't jarring, you get that punchy little slice of heavenly 2-D animation, flourishes, you know? POR should have put in hi-res 2-D for the battle scenes because the map is great. Otherwise the story is heating up in POR which I like, but so far the characters and scenarios in the portable games are more to my liking.

Although OMG :D Just got to this sea mission where you defend the apostle :D

Glad you enjoyed the game. I played the first one released on the GBA. Fun enough, but it didn't quite grab me enough to go out and get the others. Still, it's always nice to hear someone get empassioned about a game that they didn't think would appeal to them.

Glad to see others liking this game too. I loved it alot, it was the first SRPG that I actually took the time to get involved with and it really paid off! Apart from the graphics there really isn't much wrong with this game anywhere. Can't wait for the Wii sequel (it is a real sequel).

I bought it new when it came out here in the UK, knowing it would beas rare asgold dust soon. I loved it, the game reminded me of the Shining Force series before it turned crap. I find the GBA games of Fire Embelm pale in comparison personnally. But good games all.

Tell me about it. Some cube games are so scare over here they retail for full price still - or moreso. I saw Baiten Kaitos for £45 and Pikmin for £35 :( Fire Emblem was as much as a new wii game.

Fire Emblem is an awesome game, played a few of them on the SNES but it's hard to find translations for the games. I like most of the strategy RPGs, Der Langrisser, Bahamut Lagoon, Shining Force, Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, I would like Tactics Ogre if it wasn't so frickin hard and you didn't have to spend hours training your troops.

Your blog couldn't hold in all the FE goodness could it. I just did that Apostle boat mission last night, great mission. This game is so good. I never really played a strategy game before, but now I really want to try out others like FF Tactics.

Also i need to get the GBA ones, please bring them to the VC.

dvader654
Buy them and play on DS. The FF Tactics game on gba was good but my brain fought against playing an isometric game with a d-pad.

Ok cool. Mist is Ike's little sister correct, I never use her, she is terrible. Let me guess she becomes some super powered mage later on.

Not really,
you are forced to use only her healing powers in one or two of the later missions. She is critical for your completion of the game
A cheap tactic by IntSys.

I know what battle you are talking about Toment and you dont need her. That little wanketee got slain in that battle in like one hit on me and then I beat "that boss" without her. Dvader get elixirs for your main guy, if you have 4 or 5 then you dont need her and can beat "that boss" later on.

Yeah, you can definitely get through the game without Mist, but I rather liked using her later on.

As for Fire Emblem, it seems to be the most underrated series Nintendo is publishing right now. It's a crime that the first six games have yet to be brought over here and the scheduling of the next Fire Emblem being a week before Mario Galaxy is nefarious. Still, I am glad to see Ike in Smash Bros though.

One thing I'll always love about Fire Emblem are the character designs, some of the best in any RPG series. I really love the medieval/fantasy theme, unlike some other RPG designs where the characters look like they're part ofa Japanese metrosexual pop-band.

Anyway, the designs in Fire Eblem are awesome. I like the proportioning of the character designs, the balance, colors, and they are all attractive. I guess that some of the characters do tend to look similar, but that's fitting for a series like Fire Emblem because every unit is a individual and equally important, which is what I like about it. Some other strategy RPGs, the characters are all throw-aways and use the same portraits, but in Fire Emblem, each character has a name, a backstory, and a design. So losing one of these characters feels like you lose a comrade.

I usually reset a game whenever someone dies, but maybe I should try playing through a Fire Emblem game once even when a character dies? Maybe the game will feel more impactual and meaningfull that way?

I haven't played Fire Eblem Path of Radiance all the way through, but I think I want to play it with death and all. No more reseting. Death is a part of war so I want to experience the game the way the developers intended it.

I've been playing the Emblem series with resetting all the time whenever someone dies. Just thought I make things more intense and real by seeing how it feels like by playing with death and all.

And by the way...too late, I already started! :P

Hmm...she is a pretty important character. I don't know if I'd play it where I'd lost the main character's sister. But if she dies during battle then, oh well.

But seriously, you can't kill the sister off! :?

~-~QFT! (even though I didn't quote you.:P) I played the ones on the GBA and they're awesome. You get into the characters which like 70% of the story IMO. I've been hesitant on the GC one though because I liked it 2D and on a handheld. But I still have the one for the Wii reserved.:)~-~ ~-~Added: *looks up and sees this...*~-~

The Wii one follows the story of the one that was on the GC so you may want to pick it up if you want to know what's going on in regard to any returning characters, and there will be a few. It's also an awesome game so that's a good reason to pick it up too.

I know what you mean. With Fire Emblem, you may want to get the Gamecube one while it's still around, and then pick up the sequel on the Wii, and put it to the side until after all the other big games hit. Though that's just a personal preference since I really get into those and lose track of other games I'm playing at the same time or it gets pushed to the side. Seems to be an either/or thing.

Well, either way, pick it up while you still have a chance.

If you're referring to Astrid she is acutally one of the best characters in the game. She has a Paragon skill which means that she gets double the experience that anyoneelse does. Iwent up 7 levels in one mission :D Rolf is now redundant. She's going to be a critical hit dealing megadeath machine pretty soon.

~-~QFT! (even though I didn't quote you.:P) I played the ones on the GBA and they're awesome. You get into the characters which like 70% of the story IMO. I've been hesitant on the GC one though because I liked it 2D and on a handheld. But I still have the one for the Wii reserved

The Wii version is a direct sequel to the Gamecube's goddess of Dawn. I thoroughly recommend picking up path of radiance.I had similar reservations but this game is awesome.
