If you were disappointed by the Dragon Age 2 ending this may (or may not) fix things. Our heroes travel to an ancient ruin to prevent an evil demon from awakening and blah blah... but things don't go as expected and blah... you know what? We know Bioware by now, this DLC will cost $10, you know what that means: one hour of gameplay along a linear path, collect some loot, solve a puzzle and fight a big baddie, dramatic Good or Evil choice ensues, credits roll.

I liked DA2 very much but I say: don't buy this DLC, watch it on youtube. Save your money for the inevitable and more meaningful $30 add-on like DA: Awakening was

Or, if you liked Witch Hunt, don't mind me: go ahead and buy it

EDIT: I just redeemed my free code for The Black Emporium DLC and holy crap, that must be the worst darn DLC I've ever seen in my entire life: it's basically just a store where you can change your face and buy stuff... stuff I'll never use since the I beat the game and now there's no more quests and I can't go anywhere! The DLC is for sale for $10 if you didn't get it with a prorder or something, so.... wow, I don't envy you if you paid for this monumental crap. Now it's official EA killed Bioware

DLC is a waste of money IMO, especially map packs.

I really enjoyed DA2 and have also enjoyed Bioware's DLC offerings for the most part so I'm really looking forward to this upcoming DLC. It'll be a day one purchase for me.

Some of it is pretty good. Few games have good DLC.

I usually only buy DLC if I'm getting something substantial out of it. I liked the DLC for Borderlands, as it really expanded the game. I'll probably get Kenshi for Mortal Kombat as I like the character and I'll use him a lot online, etc.

But holy crap, most of the DLC for Dragon Age was so abysmal it blew my mind. I honestly can't believe they're charging $10 for Black Emporium as that added virtually nothing to the game...

Not only that, think about it: when do people usually buy DLC? After they beat the game; but DA2 locks you in your house after you've beaten the game and you can't go anywhere (except the emporium itself)! The only way you can get something out of the DLC is by restarting the game, and even then it will take a couple hours before you can access the $10 emporium again, and for what? A dog that isn't even a party member and some free items that are worse than the stuff you loot in the game! What a miserable fail

Loved DA 2, DLC sounds awesome, and the black emporium was cool because it had a bunch of good gear to buy for your characters. But it was included in my game so idk.

The last DLC I was ever truly happy with was The Shivering Isles. Well, aside from The Ballad of Gay Tony obviously.

It's a good thing I'm waiting on buying Dragon Age II. Once they release all the DLC they want on the game, I have a good feeling that they will do an Ultimate Edition package of sorts for DAII. That's when I'll buy my copy.

Yea I liked the game and I know I'll buy the upcoming DLC, but still Dragon Age 2 left alot to be desired and not just in comparison to DAO either. All in all DA2 was quite the letdown for me at least :(

Would you have paid $10 for it, otherwise?

The Black Emporium was just what they used to charge second hand users of the game, it was free for all who bought a new copy of the game. If anything people should be happy that Bioware didn't use something more significant to charge those who purchased the game used.

Exactly: they knew Emporium was bad, originally it was probably meant to be $10 for all but didn't pass quality check and they decided to give it for free to people who buy the game new

That's a lot of assumptions you're making which I doubt to be true because the Emporium was never important story wise to the game ie. it was just a place to buy high end equipment with no gameplay to speak of.

Ok ok ok ok ok.

So which ending was worse: KOTOR 2 or Dragon Age 2?

I think KOTOR 2 was worse but only by a little.

I never played KotOR 2 but I though DA2's ending was pretty good and I see a lot of interesting directions DA3 could go. I really liked what DA2 brought to the series storywise in that it brought in a bunch of new characters and lore to further create something that can have more grandiose potential.

I loved DA2s story, one of the best game stories i have experienced since Knights Of The Old Republic honestly. It wasn't a perfect game, textures are low quality, areas are somewhat recycled, the cast of characters isn't as memorable and some of the RPG elements are needlessly dialed down. However its still a great game and worth a play through for its excellent story alone. I think the non focused, non linear nature of the story threw a lot of people off from digging their teeth into the game and having that hook. The way the story structure is set up is very reminescent of Baldurs Gate 2 and their older games where the focus on the main narrative doesn't really happen to the final leg of the game. The rest of the game is setup, side quests and role playing and establishing not only your own party members but he city of Kirkwall as one of the main characters itself. A lot of people are so used to being held by the hand and walked gently through a games story point by point with careful consideration of having everything explained to them. This style of game is more about exploring the story at your own pace and experiencing the characters and city. BlacKnight, yeah the emporium dlc is a complete ripoff for $10 but it was free for those who bought new.

I dont agree... DA2 story was bad. No not because of Hawk not because its about someone becoming a champion. But because of EVERYTHING else. Bad story structure, lack of focus, lack of a goal, lack of a reason on why you are doing things, horrible story progression (years pass and random people come up to you and say "hello my friend! you helped me with X You: No i did not... I have no idea who you are. Lets not forget about all the horrible akward moments when people died and the game was like "You should care... CARE ABOUT IT! DO IT NOW!!!" Sure i could go in on more details. But the game was bad the story was "meh" (badly done by Bioware), The characters was bland and some characters had a remake of their personality to make the game more "streamlined". Quests was bad, no exploration, copy areas, wave combat, bad boss designs, horrible balance system. Bad animations should i go on? :P

That's a very good analysis of the game. I think one of the reasons why most people were disappointed is because of the lack of an epic feel to the main story. The first game had a horde of darkspawn led by a massive black dragon serving as an obvious final boss, while in DA2 we get a three acts rise to power spanning several years, where (spoilers alert) the impending doom is not brought by an archdemon or an evil force from hell, but by the escalating political and ideological cold war between templars and magi, in which you will be called to take sides and live with the consequences. It's powerful narrative but it lacks any sort of epicness, which they tried to squeeze in with the (frankly silly-looking) final bosses. It steps away from the familiar territory of the 'heroes save the world from satan' format and I think that's what upset most people. That and the copy-paste nature of 90% of the quests. We're not all MMORPGers, Bioware... we need variety! All considered I personally liked it more than DA:O and I wish the ending was more conclusive instead of a cliffhanger. I also wish the game allowed us to visit the city after the ending to see the consequences of our actions, instead of locking us in the estate with a message literally saying "Well done! You beat DA2! Now sit tight and wait for DLC"

don't agree with the Baldur's Gate reference since in chapter 1 not only are you introduced to the main antagonist, you're also given some random information about his motives, and more than 5 reasons why you'd want to kill the bastard. The chapters after that actually make sense in a plot. Save Imoen, find what the plan is and how to stop it and then confront the evil guy. The side quests are there for people to explore and level up without having to resort to grinding with random encounters. They also flesh out the side characters.

In DA2 there's just foreshadowing and fleshing out the characters along with some of the worst side quests i've ever seen in a high profile RPG. (Oh look i found a pair of panties under a log in the slums, they belong to "Lady who lost panties" and she lives in the forest 10 miles away) in chapter 1.
